HOLIDAY MIRACLE: Prospect Park Back On Track To Revive AMC and OLTL

  • Member

WTF!!!!!

EXCLUSIVE: Here is a great holiday gift for soap fans: I’ve learned that Prospect Park has revived its plan to continue cancelled ABC daytime dramas All My Children and One Life To Live online. I hear the company behind USA hit Royal Pains has inked deals with SAG-AFTRA and DGA for the soaps’ production, eyed to begin in the first quarter of 2013.

It seems all the younger Chandlers will be re-cast, and the only strong way for audience members to become attached to them is by surrounding them with familiar faces, at least to start.

Jennifer B. and Jamie L. have expressed interested. Stephanie G. isn't a true Chandler to me, but would be welcome if still attached to a family member. Hopefully, Julia B and David C will be considered, and will consider, joining the show, if even to just help with the relaunch.

I'll probably get slammed for this but I'm okay with retiring the Chandler family. Once David Canary left, the best thing for me about Chandler family scenes was seeing his picture on the mantle. JR has been ruined. I can't stand to hear him whining about Adam not loving him when Adam was the ONLY one who had his back during the baby switch drama (yeah, I'm still bitter). Colby was a non-entity. Marian got her happy ending with Stuart. Her days of being a boozy nympho are over. Scott? Cosgrove has nice dimples. Madison? The character was all over the place and I never warmed to her. Liza? I thought she was an honorary Martin. Skye pops in and out of GH and Hayley's never coming back.

I'd love to see DC, JB, JBas and maybe JL/MW pop in as special guest stars but I'm ready for another dysfunctional evil family to invade PV. I think rebuilding the Cortlandt family through Nina and her sons, Petey and Dixie's sister Melanie would fill the void.

I think the Courtlandts have always been more entertaining besides there not as ruined as the Chandlers. They have quaky characters like Opal and Petey and nice characters like Nina. I don't know much about Nina's sons but they could be part of Courltlandt electronics. I would like to see Nina be a part of CE as well. Maybe Daisy can return as the matriarch! If you think about it, I think the Courtlandt's pretty much had more potential than the Chandlers and they are more Colorful as well but not as humerus as the Q's on GH.

While I would love to see Brooke and Adam, Adam and Stuart, and to a lesser extent Marion and Stuart, I'm happy that all of them got happy endings. My biggest concerns for these characters are that their happy endings are not ruined by the reboot, which is why I think them appearing on a less regular basis allows their endings to stay intact.

We know that JR is being recast. If Jamie and Pete show up, both have reasons for a rivalry with JR, and both could live with Opal if Tad and Dixie don't make it to the canvas, but JR doesn't have any surrounding family? I also think that the Cortlandt family will be re-built but through Opal, with Nina possibly making a guest appearance.

If Jesse McCartney hadn't just landed a job on Army Wives I'd bring him back as JR. He's looking rough (and a bit bloated) enough to make that work after Jacob Young, who had many rough, bloated periods on AMC. He wasn't getting much work up to now, beyond voice stuff, and he and Young are actually less than ten years apart in age. Oh, well.

I'd love to see more Cortlandts in theory, but the last attempt at a Cortlandt revival - Caleb and Asher - stank, at least in execution if not necessarily in concept. Sometimes you only get one shot at those things, at least these days.

It would have to be handled very carefully, and make it very clear to a modern audience why these people are relevant - Adam and the Chandlers' mortal rivals, with people like Dixie caught in the middle. I guess I'd go with Dixie, Petey, and one or two of Cliff and Nina's kids to start with. With Nina making some appearances, preferably.

It would be interesting if Opal and Dixie were at odds because of their children since they have always been close (well at least after Opal stopped trying to break up Tad and Dixie)

At the risk of being flamed, why does there have to even BE a Courtlandt/Chandler rivalry? Palmer is dead, and he and Adam had buried the hatchet before he died. Dixie is a Courtlandt, and so is JR. There's no point in having a rivalry.

If anything, it would make more sense to merge Chandler/Courtlandt and have them as rivals against the Kane/Montgomery/Slater family, stemming from JR shooting at Bianca.

I vote for some Chandlers/Courtlandt but not the entire family. I wish they will make AMC Economically Diverse as it once was. But yeah, the Courtldand'ts and Chandlers and pretty much merged (for the most part). The main family they need to concentrate on is the Martin family IMO.

If they are going through the trouble recasting JR, I'm pretty sure if JR did shoot anyone - he will get away with it, in the sense of having spent time in Oakhaven, or Adam having worked to get him out of it by claiming the old gun went off as being faulty, but I'm not opposed to that set up - there could be some delicious scenes between Brooke and Erica, and with Brooke defending JR, it would add an interesting ironic twist. It could lend itself to a Romeo/Juliet scenario if they aged A.J. and Miranda since it seems obvious that they are meant to be a couple. However, for any of this to happen, we need more Chandlers, Cortlandts, Kanes and Montgomerys.

I just watched the AMC episode (on SOAPnet) where Stuart was shot. Not that this has any relation to it at all but I noticed that they used the same cutting style in this episodes cliffhanger as they did in the finale cliffhanger. When Stuart was about to get shot, they did rapid cuts back and forth on the various guns that were aimed at him around the mansion; And in the finale, it was rapid cuts on all the characters standing around in the mansion that JR could shoot.

My new theory/idea if they pick up on who JR shot is that he shot Adam. The new leaked script for "Logan" does seem to sort of indicate Adam died. Why else would the topic of who Adam left the Chandler fortune to be brought up? Just a thought.

And there still could be room for David Canary to make appearances, Stuart was thankfully brought back in the end and w/Jennifer Bassey talking with the producers I think there's even more of a chance we'll see Stuart/Marian together on the show.

Jill Larson's special message!

"I am going to need my winter coat because in just 32 days we are all gathering in Stamford, CT to start shooting "All My Children: The Sequel" yayyy!! Were all very excited about the possibilites that await all of us and getting together again and dusting off our old beloved characters and telling new stories that Agnes has been dreaming up since we've been off the air over a year ago. So keep your eyes posted, we'll all be gathering and we'll see you soon on the internet probably some time in April I think."
