Yeah, that movie is some crazy [!@#$%^&*].

Hussein turned down the opportunity to direct The Five Doctors back in 1983. I expect either Gatiss or Toby Whithouse will take over in a few years, but I've been very happy with Moffat. I will say I think AAISAT is Gatiss's best work in nuWho by far. I like him, I like his other work but I frankly found all his DW work mediocre until AAISAT.

Something I didn't notice in DOTD: At Coal Hill School, where Clara now works, the sign outside apparently labels the "Chairman of the Governors" as "I. Chesterton."

I'm likely not going to be able to watch The Time of the Doctor on the day of due to my being out of town with family, or at least not in the way I want, on my big screen TV - maybe if I can rig up my USB to their TV after downloading it. I'd rather watch it on BBCA, but my parents don't have it up there. Ugh, anticipation.

I don't "get" the Cybermen. They're not visually interesting or terribly scary (whereas I as a grown man think the Dalek's are pretty terrifying (they're garbage cans on wheelies, it's ridiculous!)) I don't know why they keep coming back other than they used to be one of the Doctor's big foes.

River Song is an example of what I hate about Moffatt's writing (the long story arcs and his female characters, anyway.) I liked her when she made one or two appearances during Davies' run (in episodes written by Moffat, I believe) but...

The Cybermen haven't been scary since the '60s. Both The Pandorica Opens and Nightmare in Silver came close to fixing them but not quite.

If they'd go back to an updated version of their original appearances in, say, The Tenth Planet and Tomb of the Cybermen - i.e., tattered cloth standing in for torn flesh, strange, high jangly voices, gaunt, spindly creatures - then it might work. But it would scare the [!@#$%^&*] out of kids.

For example:

The Cyberman are heartbreaking, which we rarely see exploration of. There were a few scenes in the parallel worlds story that brought them back where you saw this, when that world's Jackie was turned into a Cyberman but still had her feelings.

In the late 60s they just became baddies, and generally have stayed that way ever since.

I think they're more frightening than the Daleks when they are properly written.

The clanking sound when they walk has become overused.

The Doctor's penis has become too much of a central part of the story in the last few years. I hope that will be over soon.

I'll take Moffat's constant attempts at epicness and myriad twist and turns over the cheesy crap RTD tried to pass off as drama.

And I love River Song. Love her. Alex Kingston has had me since ER and that egg scene (if you've ever watched ER you know what I'm talking about). And River is fascinating. The whole timey wimey-ness of her conception and birth and marriage and death is one of the major strengths of the show: time travel. Also I'm just a big fan of stories that are plan in advance and (pretty much) make sense in the end.

And that article is over a year old.

    • Forbes also likely got the primetime career Zimmer wanted - never a huge star, admittedly, but a stalwart, able to dip in and out when she saw fit and generally not paying an industry price. Zimmer felt extremely hurt by her lack of success after leaving GL and even more hurt when JFP made it clear GL had moved on from Reva. (JFP, self-sabotaging as ever, soon made it clear that was not actually the case, but with a stronger producer, GL could have genuinely moved on from Reva)
    • Oh wow - I must see this promo!  Anyone have a copy/link to it? I can't believe they 'accidentally' did that, and if so, I wonder if someone got in trouble haha. Kim did mention in Chapter 1 that the 'suits' dangled some hopeful carrots for a long time, saying they would pitch the show and try and get it on another network or online somehow where it would be cheaper. They even heard rumors that Lifetime would pick it up, so it gave some folks hope for a little while, but sadly nothing came of it. Kim said she was already resolved that it would never go anywhere and she had peace of mind about that shortly after the announcement.
    • Same. I absolutely agree. It's a real shame, too. I had a lot of hope for the Character.
    • He's been written that way for about twenty years, so I suppose it is fitting. They should have done repair work, but I still think this return was pushed on Frank by ABC and he sandbagged the whole thing. If so, I guess he got what he wanted. I mostly feel bad for Becky Herbst. I've never loved Liz, but she should be given more respect than she is by TPTB, rather than always being a step away from losing her job.
    • Wow. This show is ridiculous.
    • There's a 1997 promo somewhere of Annie vs. Reva which ends with Reva throwing her purse across the room. IIRC, from what soap magazines at the time said, that was not an actual scene but was (allegedly) a real confrontation which somehow got into a promo.  I do wish Wheeler had moved faster - maybe that was as fast as she could go, or maybe she took for granted that they would stay on. I know the show probably couldn't have improved drastically, but I do wish they'd had one year, and Irna's babies could have ended at the same time.  I have already spent enough years comparing the GL and ATWT finales, but I agree. As someone who quit watching GL in disgust around the early/mid '00s the show did remind of its old self at the end. ATWT's ending was an extended Goutman ego trip. One show had a poignant death of a character whose passing was long overdue...one slaughtered a vibrant young man so we could get James Rehborn (wonderful as he was) playing chess for homophobes.  The Grant Aleksander interview I posted a few weeks ago had him talking about learning GL was canceled because Ron Raines called him at Home Depot. He said they knew it was probably going to happen, but that believing something will happen and it actually happening are very different.
    • Thanks. I just hope this choice isn't why Billy is leaving, as they should have done all they could story-wise to make him want to stay.  Maybe he had already told them he was going. I hope so.
    • This is amazing. They didn’t even make it 6 months into Trump‘s term

    • This is where the timeline gets a little muddy. The Bo who was in Heaven, in Beyond Salem 2 knows that Caroline died. But in this alternate timeline, where Bo never actually died and was held in cryogenics by Megan, shouldn’t know about Caroline.  It does seem like the new writers don’t have much interest in her, or in the possible pairing with Chad.
    • Leslie's campiness has become irritating to me, not mesmerizing anymore.  It's getting repetitive, constantly plotting and flirting.  She's become a cartoon, sadly, and the actress is worth more than that. I want to fastforward through her, but now I watch to see her scene partners react.
