OLTL: Discussion for the week of October 24

The Cutter actor is growing on me but really he seems to be another example on this show of an actor (usually male, see Rick, either Todd, etc) who has no clue how he's supposed to play his character so hams it up (How many weird voices has he done this past week). At least it's entertaining.

There is no character. It's just generic sleaze #4353, with wacky comedy moments to kill time. The dead eyes and the lack of chemistry with most of his co-stars always gets in the way for me. I'm sure he's a good actor, in other roles.

I dunno, I think it's hard to connect (which might be what you mean by dead eyes) to such a non character--and when there is character he is so inconsistently drawn--so it leads more and more to being encouraged to play up the goofy antics.

They don't make characters now. They're mostly just husks who occasionally get directed to jump up and down. I don't think they have ever had any plan for any of the new characters brought on the show in the last year. They're just thrown around at random. Nothing about Cutter or Aubrey has ever made sense to me - their schemes have been stupid, their relationships with other characters and each other are forced, and they just seem to be marking time until the show is over. I wonder if the show ever has any stories planned out at all. Considering how much time is devoted to Austin Peck goofily convincing Starr to be the Robin Sparkles of Llanview, I don't think they do. I've seen praise for the show recently for having so much plot, but what plot? Where is it?

Is that in the credits? anyway that means nothing--they'll change it to Gigi soon enough.

Yeah the closing credits

Yeah the closing credits

OK, yeah those tend to change as the character changes--it doesn't mean anything. (I hope--actually I don't care--I dont' want Gigi or Stacey...)

I think what is meant by plot (though I don't see this as a good thing) is the very fact that characters solely serve whatever story need is there--changing their minds and personalities at a flip of a hat. But as you say, that really leaves them as non characters. They don't seem to be created with any long term character arc whatsoever, or other basic principles most playwrights, tv writers, etc, should know.

Yeah, they kept Roger Howarth credited as "Man with Scar" for sometime. So they are perhaps crediting her as Stacy since that's what they are calling her onscreen and wanting people to think that's who she really is....then again, with OLTL you just never know. LOL

OLTL's credits are meaningless indicators.

Téa went from Téa Delgado Manning to Téa Manning back to Téa Delgado, all without real acknowledgement onscreen. All these changes and no one at ABC can still bother to spell her name with the correct accent.

I love how Clint/Viki and Cord/Tina are mutually supporting each other's stories

Not a Tina fan but I agree. RC is doing a surprisingly good job at mixing these 4 up together.

LOL. I don't see how they could plausibly have it be Stacy but somehow also bring Gigi back. I know people speculated the Michael/Al route but Micahel's on right now and that's not even getting a mention so I doubt they'll go there.

I keep noticing Jessica's name changing. She was Jessica Buchanan Brennan or something and now she's just Jessica Brennan. WTF ABC, Nash is DEAD.

so what? People dont tend to change their names when their spouses die unless they remarry and Jessica never has. Its why Natalie is still Nataie Banks. Jessica still having Brennan in there makes perfect sense.

The Tea one however doesnt make much sense as I dont think Tea ever changed her name to Manning in any of her marriages to Todd. If I recall correctly, she kept Delgado, as that was her professional name

I think I read that Cutter gets his comeuppance sometime down the line. My prediction is that he falls for Stigi and maybe when she's starting to feel something, she remembers she's Gigi and runs into Rex's arms.

That sounds like a lucky break.
