Ha it was definitely buttons (he must have had quite a few, to fill those bags). He mentioned at one point a mother of pearl button, and then he and Echo went off saying "Button, button, who's got the button..." I loved it. (though now thinking it could be buckets, makes me love it even more).

I was impressed a soap nowadays hired as many extras as OLTL did for those scenes. There seemed to be more people than at the last major wedding or funeral... The beaver thing, I'm not sure about... Obviously we're meant to think that Rick has the gun, if Cutter doesn't, but I'm not sure either of them would investigate a stuffed beaver, let alone Cutter would find it a cute gift, even as a joke--but I guess that really is nitpicking.
