Wow, what happened to AMC this week? Crashing from 8.4 to 6.6.. I mean, I know they used to go up and down much more than they do today, but this seems like a harsh drop (from 7th to 13th).

And nice to see Y&R's first weeks

Based on the preemptions above, I think I have figured out the one wrong item, and learned a new piece of history in doing the 1973 sleuthing! All of the preemptions matched except for 4 shows (Love of Life, Search for Tomorrow, Young and the Restless and Gambit) which each had one MORE preemption than expected. Checking on Watergate from 10/3/73 (since all 4 of those shows have that date list as the common one between them), there was a bomb threat called into the Watergate committee, which made the morning session get called off shortly after 11AM, and then after a bomb search, they started the afternoon session an hour earlier at 1PM. So, based on that, I am removing 10/3/73 as a preemption date for those 4 shows. CBS looks like they wrapped up commentary quickly after 11AM and aired the 4 shows (Love of Life would be a partial episode). (Although Vanderbilt does say they had commentary during that time, that does not look to be the case).

That is amazing and incredibly random, whatever nut that called in that bomb threat in 1973, if he's still alive, has no idea the confusion he'd created for soap fans 50 years later.

Amazing research skills!!! I'm in awe, seriously!

Heading into the Watergate era soon, so lots of preemptions upcoming. In the meantime, there was a random 1972 included in this batch, so here's a look at those two weeks. I think that's our first look at some shows with shares in the 40's!!  Back to 1973 tomorrow!

Ooh even the 1972! Nice!

I am fascinated how the ratings would see-saw each week... The soaps would gain and lose viewers so much, as opposed to the later years when they were much more stagnant and if they lost viewers, they would hardly get them back.

I think they were always going to dump LIAMST and SS with that scheduling, but pushing the latter to 4PM (and separating it from the soap block) just made it easier to justify later replacing it with Tattletales. Saved them from cancelling two at the same time + launch a hour and a half of game shows.

    • I am blown away that Christie Clark is 51, and she debuted 39 years ago. They gave her a lovely script today.  But, I could not think of any other examples in culture of someone able to jump right back into the skin of a character, after virtually retiring from acting years ago. I was trying to recall if Carrie left for a bit with Anna after Roman died (because she wasn't at Bo & Hope's wedding), and then returned as a pre-teen Christie?  Or if she was just SORASed off-screen?  But, whenever I see the character I am reminded how much more trauma she's endured than Sami, and yet she remains such a nice person.
    • Weirdly I feel like Nina was the most sus about the entire situation.  Normally I would have given this one to Carly, but Nina was always kind of trying to make it make sense. I think Nina (and Alexis) are actually really smart characters.  They just constantly get in their own way with dumb plans lol.
    • Rewatching some of 1991 I had to appreciate what a strong week March 5-12 1991 was. Cassandra dies, Nina shoots David, Sheila switces the babies, and drunk Nikki all occurring simultaneously. 1991 and 92 were pretty strong overall.
    • Still loving all the Gio fallout, but the scenes that really surprised me this episode were the ones with Nina and Maxie. I was not expecting Nina to be the one to put together all the pieces about Sasha's baby daddy. This custody hearing is about to get explosive!
    • I really hope after the secret comes out their interactions don't stop
    • BAHAHA  I needed that laugh today. Talk about one note.  I would put Derek and Ashley a notch above Dani. Dani's scenes are basically rinse, lather, and repeat for 60 episodes and counting.  It's as if she was transported from the soap opera Passions onto this soap.  MVJ should put aside her friendship/admiration for Karla and look at the fact that this character isn't wroking as written.
    • Agreed.  It doesn't feel in character at all.
    • You could always tell whenever Douglas Marland enjoyed writing for a particular actor, because he'd pull out all the stops for them; and Julianne Moore was no exception.
    • I'm sorry, but I just can't get past the fact that it was Lois, of all people, who deceived so many people.  No matter how hard Rena Sofer tries to justify Lois' actions - and boy, does she work hard! - it just isn't something Lois would've done.
    • Honestly, Olivia had kind of a good reason to keep her son safe from a mobster for two decades.  Sonny literally shot Dante in the chest lol and had multiple family members die, get injured, threatened, kidnapped, etc, etc.   I know you don't watch the show very often, but it's not like Olivia should have shown up and given Sonny and his 18-year-old girlfriend Brenda shared custody of a kid.  That would have been a horrible, life threatening idea.
