In fairness, I would not call this the height of great soap.

I wouldn't either, lol.  By the time those scenes had aired, the wheels had long come off from Rauch's OLTL.  But a part of me, at least, suspects THIS is the kind of drama that influenced Carlivati and Valentini to a great degree.

You can tell from the poor anniversary material in 2008 that this is what they wanted to recreate (and also what fans of theirs like Jamey Giddens tended to love most). The difference is, terrible as much of this material had been, those involved treated it seriously. That's the only type of camp that works. Ron always treated this stuff as a joke. He has continued to do so on DAYS. When you see someone winking at you over and over, you don't marvel at their brilliance. You're either creeped out, or you give them the number of your eye doctor.

I agree.

Imagine if you had someone like Peggy O'shea writing this Duann/Julia/Renee story... it still would have been campy.. but there would have been some heart/meat to the scenes.

I'm still trying to wrap my head around the fact that Alex is almost an actual person and not some loopy over the top individual that came later on.  She seems almost competent in her day to day life.

Exactly!  That's what I still love about her and Sam Hall's work on the show during the early and mid-'80's: even when the stories became a little more "out there" than they had been before, their writing managed to make it feel like the things that were happening were completely within the realm of possibilities.  They never seem to lose the earthiness that made OLTL so special in the first place.

What I didn't realize is that it was apparently Gabrielle who first came into contact and had dealings with DuAnn. I regret that her final episode or two in '91 apparently isn't available.

I'd never seen this before today. I don't think whoever wrote it was jabbing at OLTL itself, just taking cheap shots at all soaps, but still, I feel some satisfaction when I see shows that went after soaps in such lazy terms and then flopped.

(I still find Susan Powter hilarious though, so this isn't an attack on her)

Today in turn off your brain moments: Unloaded or not, you'd think that Asa would face some sort of charge/penalty for pulling a weapon on officers doing their job.

Rewatching Malone's 2nd OLTL Tenure on YT. Why did they dump River. The actor is actually good.

Doing some re-watch of 2004-06 on YT

The Santi Stuff is more terrible than I remember. What was the point?

The Love Crew was a good group. Too bad they wasted them in 2005 with The killing Club and Daniel Coulson

Daniel's reasoning for his affair with mark was horrible

When they brought on Hayes Barber did anyone ever think he wouldnt end up being the Killing Club Killer?

They Bring on Duke and kill him off two years later

Jen being Murdered. Did Jessica Morris want out? That Murder was hard to watch

Jay Wilkinson as Riley was good. Too bad he didnt last longer

Of all The Paige Miller's I liked Alexandra Neil the best

The actress portraying the nurse with Ursula resembles Mary Joan Negro.

I would again recommend people who can handle horror check out Jill's starring role in the found footage flick The Taking of Deborah Logan - she's incredible in it opposite the great Anne Ramsay as her daughter. It's on Prime, Tubi, etc.
