CBS Daytime Specials--After Hours

In December 1976, May 1977 and December 1977 John Conboy produced three CBS afternoon specials showcasing the musical and singing talents of its daytime stars. Here are the advertisements for two of the specials: "After Hours: From Janice, John, Mary and Michael, With Love", which aired on December 8, 1976 and "After Hours: Singin', Swingin' & All That Jazz!", which aired on December 6, 1977. The latter special won a Daytime Emmy in 1978.

Awesome. I bet they were cornier than Iowan poo but I'd love to see them. As I said in the other thread, I saw the clip of Conboy accepting the Emmy for one of these, it's on a TV museum/archive website. I wish they did stuff like this now. Super Soap/Fun in the Sun/Broadway Cares-type stuff of course is the modern day equivalent, and though cheesy, they can't compare to the endearing cheesetasticness of a daytime TV variety show special.

I don't know if any advertisement was done for the second special, "After Hours: Getting To Know Us", which aired on May 26, 1977. The New York Times didn't have one in its TV listings. That special had David Hasselhoff in it!

The CBS Special intro...one of the best memories of my childhood!

I lived for that! That awesome feeling before Rudolph or Frosty came on.

I saw the pilot movie of John Conboy's Capitol a few years ago and it also got the "Special" bumper, it preempted Falcon Crest that Friday night.

Eric, what site was it that had the Emmy broadcast I mentioned above? I don't think it was Paley, wasn't it in Chicago? I signed up to view their videos and I've gotten emails from them that I've always deleted.

You betcha! CBS was THE network for Christmas specials back in the day. I was always mesmerized by the special effects done in those few short but sweet seconds!

Michael Nouri sang regularly on Search For Tomorrow as Steve Kaslo. The song Steve wrote 'You Can Love Again' was used after his death as the title song to a movie which led to Liza meeting Travis Sentell.
