This must be around May, June or July 1989.

I think many actors don't want to rock the boat. On Coronation Street, a character said he didn't know what it was like to lose a child. Many viewers complained, as he had lost a child to a stillbirth. The actor said he tried to speak up but they told him to just read the line.

I do respect the likes of Liz Hubbard who ad-libbed that she had "three daughters" over a decade after the show forgot one of her daughters had ever existed, but most of the time that isn't allowed or just doesn't happen.

Thanks!!

Ugh - I hate that, but I guess I get it. You let it happen often, then it gets out of control.

Thanks for sharing that video!  What month/year was that? I know she meant personality, but when Reva told Dylan that he reminded her of Rusty, I thought he for sure resembles him!

Thanks everyone - I'm glad Reva/Dylan at least had several months together before she went off the bridge. To DRW's point, when she came back, it's so painfully obvious the writers don't know or care about Dylan and their history. I can't believe Kim would even allow the dialogue to say Marah was her firstborn haha, so bad.

It would have to be August 89. it's after Jeva's July wedding, (as Dylan's met Rusty) and what Reva and Billy must've been talking about on the phone call is The Heartbreaker, the bar he bought with Hamp shortly afterward. Billy slugs Josh when they announce her pregnancy in early September.

Morgan Englund's first day on the show was at the Josh/Reva wedding, which was in July 1989.  Coincidentally, the wedding was Kimberley Simms' first day as Mindy.

Morgan Englund's first tape day might've been the wedding, but Dylan showed up in town shortly before that. Billy shows up in town, surprising Reva, and they have a night out on the town. They meet Dylan at a dive bar, and somehow, Dylan takes offense to Billy. Reva steps between them and ends up getting a black eye from Billy. Josh shows up the next morning at Reva Bend, to find Billy (platonically) in bed with a hungover Reva. Billy then ends up babysitting Marah. If you've never seen that, it's hilarious.

I’m up to August 14, 1998.

*Kevin Mambo is no longer in the credits as a contract player as of August 10th. Interesting because they still have Michael Burke in there even though he died earlier. I wonder why they decided to take him off contract, and whether he’ll be around for a while or if he’s leaving soon. They also added Teri, Lizzie and Sean to the credits. I wonder how that contract for Lizzie (Hayden) went, considering Marah (Kimberly) was never on contract and she was on often.

After Michael’s death, Dolly overhears Josh/Reva talking about how hard the clone’s life has been and will always be. They plan to send her away to a remote village in Italy so she can get away from Alan, who wants to use her to promote his new cloning business. The entire thing makes her really emotional. Privately, she takes the last aging serum she kept and drinks it. Finally, we’re getting to the end of this long storyline. I’ll admit, this was pretty moving because she’s essentially committing suicide now and Zimmer did a great job with the material. Dolly asks Josh/Reva to take her to Cross Creek one last time before she goes and Josh does. While there, you can already see Dolly’s face has aged. Dolly hides this from Josh, and behind a door, they have a very emotional and moving conversation. Josh tells her he’ll never forget her and she’ll always be part of his heart. She then writes Josh/Reva a letter, saying she knows she’ll always be loved, and then takes the phone off the hook. I’m starting to think these last few days of Dolly, as she’s dying, are the best part of this storyline because it’s character-driven and not plot-driven. Later, Reva finds the aging serum in the trash and tries to call Cross Creek, but can’t because the phone is off the hook. She rushes to Cross Creek and Josh/Reva force their way into her bedroom and discover a very old Dolly.

Harley and Phillip tour the destroyed lab facility at Spaulding and find a container with Michael’s name on it with a key inside. Later, when Josh/Reva are trying to find an anecdote that Michael created that will help Dolly live, Harley realizes the key she found is the answer. They find the locker that the key goes to, but it ends up being empty. They realize it’s in a storage bin, Josh gets it and rushes to Cross Creek, but it’s too late. Reva tells Dolly she was loved and then Dolly dies (Aug 10/11th). Cassie arrives and they bury her near HB, and tell her to enjoy getting to know him in heaven. The ending to this story was quite good, full of emotion and character-driven storytelling, but ultimately good riddance as I’m ready to move on from the clone saga. For the first time, I actually have no idea what story will come next for Reva/Josh.

Teri gets Blake to open up, who is still frantic and remembers flashbacks of the incident. Blake ends up saying that Ben forced his way into the house and raped her, but it comes across as questionable and Teri privately tells Frank that something seems off with what Blake is saying. Blake says to herself that she did it for Ross and the kids and there was no other way. Ross gets out of jail on bond and goes to Blake. They have a tearful reunion, but she still can’t feel anything in her legs and the doctor privately tells Ross she should physically be able to walk, but it must be all in her head.

Teri and Ben have a very flirtatious dinner (they have great chemistry), and Teri pulls one over on Ben, saying she now knows how he plays the game and is quite good at it. She then has him arrested on the spot and smirks, saying she’s got his number. He later is released on bail, goes to the hospital and sets off the fire alarm, and sees Blake. He tries to get her to admit her real feelings and that he didn’t rape her. She finally opens up and says they made love and it wasn’t rape, which we see Ben has a voice recorder in his pocket, which picked up her admission. She tells him she can’t tell anyone the truth though, and she begs him not to make her. Later, Blake is praying in the chapel and Ben walks in, reveals her taped confession and she freaks out. He tells her he planned to play it for Ross and Teri/Frank, but couldn’t and he still wants her to make the right choice instead. He then breaks the tape and leaves it in her lap and walks out. Blake later confides in Holly while Ben confides in Beth about it all. Ben makes a cryptic comment to Beth that he knows more about Rick and Blake and their ‘situation’ than anyone, hmm.

Holly is now drinking at work. She later gets a letter from Fletcher with an update, which gets her excited, but soon realizes he’s not coming back home and hasn’t changed his mind. She goes home, drinks more and cries. Abby, Michelle and Meta show up with the boys (Kevin/Jason) to surprise her but they see her throw a bottle at the fireplace and get very concerned. Meta/Abby take the boys back home and Holly tries to convince them she’ll never do that again, she was just upset from Fletcher’s letter. Michelle privately tells Holly she’s noticed how much she’s been drinking these days and she can recognize an alcoholic because of her father (Ed). She begs her to get help and not let this ruin her life (these were great scenes!). Meanwhile, Abby feels obliged to tell Rick and they go back to Holly’s house and confront her. Later, given everything that’s happened, Rick tells Ross he doesn’t trust his son being with any of them and wants fuller custody for now. Ross is obviously very upset and says no. Ben overhears Rick telling his lawyer he wants to proceed with full custody, and Ben tells Rick that taking Kevin away from Blake will be the biggest mistake of his life. Later, Holly tells Blake about Fletcher’s letter, her drinking and how Abby/Rick are upset and want Kevin, and Blake throws her out of the room. Ross then goes to Holly’s house and harasses her about her drinking and endangering his kids’ lives. This is where Ross loses me, because he then tells Holly he doesn’t blame Fletcher for leaving her (even though she wasn’t drinking before he left). He angrily leaves and heads to Abby’s and demands her to let him inside her house so he can take the kids and she refuses. Ross is really unhinged these days.

Wow, Rick continues to push Ben to the point where Ben finally reveals the truth he’s been hiding. He tells Rick that Annie Dutton changed the paternity test results from way back when, and Ross is really the father of both babies! I knew this outcome, but didn’t know how it would happen and I’m surprised Annie was involved and it was premeditated!

Vanessa wants to work full-time at Spaulding now, and Matt finally gives his blessing after thinking about it. There is a random scene with Beth and Matt at the Towers (chem test?), and he offers to build Lizzie a play house in his off time at nights (uhh, you were mad at Vanessa for taking time away from Maureen to work, but you’re offering your free nights now away from home?). We’ll see what comes out of this, as it was the first time I recall Matt/Beth having a scene and it was pretty random.

Drew tries to convince Bill that he’s perfect for Michelle, so she can have Jesse. Later at the beach, the cops give Jesse a hard time and Michelle uses her Bauer name to get the cops to leave him alone. Jesse gets upset about it and Michelle’s privilege and he leaves, with Drew running after him. Bill comforts Michelle and tells her that Jesse doesn’t make her happy, and she needs someone who can (like him), and they hug. Later, he seems to do a 180 and convinces Michelle to talk to Jesse and they make up, after Jesse says he’s starting to sell some drawings already.

Selena seems to have taken Eleni’s place at the diner. We haven’t seen Eleni in several months now which is odd. We also haven’t seen Nola in several months, which reminds me that I never got satisfied with the ending of the Nola/Buzz storyline. It was unfinished because it wasn’t really clear if Buzz got his full memory back or not (just a few flashes of memory), nor did we see Nola’s resolution, as she still seemed to be interested in Buzz in some capacity. Anyway, with Selena’s help, Jenna admits to Harley she wants to be a stay at home mom and stop working. She’s also randomly named the boy Rocky, not sure where that name came from or how Buzz feels about it. They were trying to decide between Stavros and Ian before. Frank suggests David to replace Jenna as Harley’s partner at her PI business.

Vicky visits Charles in the hospital and introduces herself to Vivian as a Spaulding and Vivian’s tune changes drastically. She sucks up to her and pushes David to take her on a date since she’s a Spaulding. Vivian is so thirsty.  Later, Vicky goes to Alan and Phillip and says she wants her rightful share of the Spaulding fortune, which makes Alan go off. Phillip tries to mediate and reminds her that her mother wrote off the Spauldings and their rights to anything long ago. She vows to fight for what’s rightfully hers.

Dinah exposes Sean to Hart and Cassie, by showing Hart he’s a wanted fugitive that Cassie is harboring. Hart kicks Dinah out so he can deal with it, so Dinah calls the cops and tells them where Sean is, and they arrive at Cassie’s to arrest both Sean and Cassie. They all know it was Dinah that called, and Hart is upset with her and plans to bail Cassie out. Teri later announces that Sean’s ex-wife and partner were caught scamming someone and they’re very much alive, and therefore Sean and Cassie are released, much to Dinah’s chagrin. Later, Cassie tells Hart the full truth about the clone, Sean’s involvement, etc, which makes Hart understand everything now and brings them closer.

@alwaysAMC yeah, Nola is done.  She'll come to Billy/Vanessa's final wedding during the final week of shows (Monday, Fletcher appears on Thursday).

You are so brave to keep on watching.

So anyway, random question. I noticed in your signature, that GL is your number two soap. Was it always, or has it moved up since you've been rewatching?

Ugh, that's just awful. She's still in the end credits as a contract character, but if she doesn't get any acknowledgment or send-off, I'll be sad. She's a legacy character, they should write for her instead of bringing in random new ladies her age (Selena, Teri, etc). I am thrilled to hear they asked her back for the end though :)

Haha :)

No, I changed my rankings after a few months into watching GL this year, and it moved up to #2 quickly. I hadn't changed my rankings/signature since AMC/OLTL were cancelled, so it was very stale anyway and I included the current soaps at the time that I've never even watched (Y&R, B&B, Passions), so I just removed those completely. My only memories of GL, which had it ranked at like #6 or #7, was from summers as a pre-teen and I happened to catch the opening theme and LOVED it. So, when GH had commercials, I would flip over to GL. Other than the opening, my only vague memories are the A-M/Frank/Eleni triangle and Ross/Blake (but I don't really recall any details of the storylines). If it wasn't the summer, then the only soap I was watching daily was AMC because my parents watched and that was our family dinner show haha. They wouldn't have liked knowing I would watch other soaps while home alone during the summer. So, my OLTL/GH/DAYS watching was like 2-3 months a year until I graduated from college. That's when I started ATWT for the Luke/Noah storyline and really enjoyed that show for a good year or two.

@alwaysAMC I didn't realize Lisa Brown wBroin the credits that late.  All I remember is when I came back from my 3-month hiatus, I was hoping to see more Nola.  At least when Nola returned, she admitted a line about being with Quint again.  She returned with Bridget and Dylan.  It was nice that Bridget and Dylan found each other again.  They also name drop Peter as being a Medical student.  Still a shame we never got to see an adult Peter.

You mentioned that when characters leave on GL, time freezes like they're in stasis until they return.  Best example was Harley's daughter Susan who left town as  13/14 and came back to town 5-6 years later as still a teenager!   Still infuriating, when they could've aged up any number of children.  Admittedly, GL's 90s ratio was like 9-1 boys over girls.

That's so cool that your entire family watched AMC. There were times when I was younger and we only had one tv that me and the sibs watched, but that didn't last that long. lol

Not bringing Peter back was such a travesty. So much history they could've tapped vs inflicting some of the teens we had in the later years. I'm sorry---I'd have much rather seen Peter than Coop, who was born years after Peter.

Yeah, I think I got lucky with that!  My mom watched with her mom, so it just stuck through the generations. Although it was mostly just me and my parents. My half-brother moved out when I was still young, so thankfully I didn't have to deal with sharing the remote with him for long. My dad would pretend like he didn't care and half-paid attention, but when he was gone on business trips and came back, he for sure wanted to know what he missed...

I'm so happy Bridget came back too, because she's been a favorite of mine, so I need to go watch that (I've only see the very last episode which did have Fletcher and Alex, from memory).

That's interesting, I've actually felt like the ratio is the reverse - way more girls than boys (in terms of kids anyway). Tammy, Lizzie, Marah, Maureen... compared to Peter and Shayne. Oh I guess you have Jason/Kevin now, so that helps even it out.  Oh no, I guess we have Coop and now Rocky, ok you may be right haha. Don't tell me, but if Dinah and Cassie both have their babies, I'm curious what they'll turn out to be.

But..but...he's a COOPER!!!! It would have been interesting to see Peter coming back...with Dinah his father's murderer in town there could have been a lot of tension. I know they wanted to hand the show over to Jonathon, but Peter could have been a very conflicted character...pulled between being a blue collar nice Reardon, and his very complicated history and his genetics.  But that would mean Bridget would have to come back and kick the Cooper out from Company, which I would love.

@alwaysAMC of course Marcus is gone, David's back to fill GL's "black guy" spot.  Like Lucy filling in for the time when Harley was off canvas.
