She throws something and breaks Brandon Spaulding’s bust, which happens to be holding a secret birth certificate that Alex has been hiding. As the maid is cleaning up debris, Roger stops her and finds the birth certificate, which shows Brandon and a Jennifer Richards as being parents to Amanda Jennifer Spaulding.  Roger then shows Amanda, who is completely shocked. As am I! So that means Alan isn’t her father, he’s actually her brother! Amanda is very angry and threatens Alex, now her sister (not aunt), to leave Springfield to maintain some semblance of a life, or stay and face her wraith because she is now on a warpath. Without a word, Alex walks out the door. Later, everyone is wondering where Alex went because they can’t find her and she isn’t showing up to appointments. Meanwhile, Roger/Leo tell Amanda she’s entitled to half of everything Brandon owned. She then angrily tells Alan the truth, which Holly overhears. Alan is in disbelief, but doesn’t hold anything against Amanda, which surprises her. Meanwhile, Alex comes back to town and confronts Alan, who now wants nothing to do with her ever again. “You are dead to me!” Phillip consoles a heartbroken Alex. Alex leaves town (March 25), and I’ll miss Dusay so much. Alan continues to suck.

Thanks for the summation. I've never seen the reveal about Amanda’s "true parentage," and it's even dumber than I thought.

Entitled to half of Brandon's fortune? Amanda ALREADY inherited most of his fortune when he "died" the first time!

And what was the point of having this revealed to everyone so quickly? If you're going to rewrite history, the secret should be stretched out for drama--for months, even years--and have some real impact on the characters and overall story. Just to write out Dusay? Seems like that's the only reason for this.

So bad.

Toby did a good job of at first not believing that the birth certificate is even real and then she blows up in anger. She was even mad at Roger for bringing it up in the first place. Remember, the first will was moot since Brandon wasn't dead (and the 2nd everyone thought Alan was dead) and Victoria didn't want anything to do with Spaulding (smart woman).  Roger is a VP as is Amanda.  They requested that all Spaulding stock was frozen until the matter was settled by a judge at the board meeting when Alexandra showed up. Phillip voted against it and Alan declined to vote.

Amanda letting Holly overhear was stupid on Amanda's part, but it gets Holly into Roger's orbit again.

Unfortunately, this is when Micheal Zaslow's voice change was really noticeable.  What could have been!  Makes me melancholy.

The thing I didn't like was Amanda being all jealous of Holly.  They already did that with Jenna. Then when Michael left, the show dropped it entirely to me and went straight into the Amanda is jealous of Holly, trying to make Roger jealous with getting Ross to run for DA and the whole Annie was thrown off the balcony stairs and lost her baby debacle. Amanda even unfroze all the assets and made Alan part of Spaulding again.

To top it off, the Lame Roger acted like Alan more than Roger.

Yes, I heard that, too. She's like Upper East Side NYC rich, like Charlotte on Sex and the City. But apparently she doesn't just sit back and live off her riches. Along with acting, she's also a writer who has published a bunch of books. Lady likes to keep busy!

That got going AFTER  GL cancelation.

This is what I mean. The reveal had no lasting impact on the story or characters.

They "forgot" the 1984 resurrection of Brandon in 1987, because Christmas 1987 Amanda visited and gave her proxy to Phillip, so she still had her large block of Spaulding stock.

At least that had an impact on the story for quite some time. Like I said, if you're going to rewrite history, do it for a purpose, not a short-term shock.

I’m up to March 28, 1997.

March 6 - the opening theme cuts out all the character shots and just leave a shortened version of lighthouse. How disappointing.

The other day I was at a doctor's appt & wasn't able to explain to you about "Blake Marler". The thing they have charged her with is "spam, scams, or deceptive practices". She says that once before she was able to successfully challenge this & get her acct reinstated so that is her goal, not reuploading, which as you imagine is a real PITA.

I don't know what the writers were thinking. They weren't writing Roger as Roger since 95 with the whole Dinah thing to me. Were there a new group of writers at that time? WSPR meant a lot to Roger and made it a huge success with the talent of Gilly. Why would he try embezzling again when it didn't work with Alexandra when all he had to do was annul the marriage? Just to find a son he who basically abandoned Peter to me.

With how these writers were, Roger would have been the one kidnapping the kids and not Holly.  LOL

@Contessa Donatella That is ridiculous!  How in the world is a scam when you don't even get money?

@alwaysAMC My conspiracy brain thinks that is when they were planning on getting firing Michael Zaslow and that is why they decided to get rid of it.

I know, right? There is no way someone posting classic soap clips & episodes, there is literally NO WAY it could be a scam, or spam or something deceptive, whatever the hell that is supposed to mean?

Edit to add: I don't know ifyou can tell but I have also been charged with this lunatic charge.

I wonder if an AI program flagged the account, because the account is clearly (to human eyes, anyway) not any of those things.

Once again, thanks for the update! I hope Jim Muneco is also trying to get his account back.

And, we all hope they succeed!!!

@MLH Thank you for the link.

Speaking of those scans.  I read an article on an episode of Edge of Night and Raven was ten times more badass than Roger was from 89-97!

@Contessa Donatella on Rumble or YouTube?  Either way, I am so over them being stupid over clips of shows no longer on the air!

Oh my gosh, I hope she can reinstate and not start from scratch! To lose everything, along with all the comments, would be devastating. I thought that was what happened at first. I'll keep hope alive!

Haha could be, or generally getting rid of many people and bringing in new people. I wonder if updating the opening was expensive back then. They just updated it to remove Zachary, Lucy and A-M, and add Jenna. I remember back in 95 and early 96 it took them like a year to finally update and add all the new characters, so I assumed cost was a factor. But at this time, they're losing Dusay and Zaslow, and from what I have read, more are coming in the next few months. Ugh.

So bad.

The scenes as played are Ed Wood bad...Annie...FREAKS out when she hears Josh is with Reva..throws Alan's wheel chair, hits..as Dusay was calling it, "That damn bust"  the bust breaks, and along Roger strolls in to find it? I don't mind a rewrite as their is wiggle room for Amanda to be Brandon's (Why did he think she was in the first place...) but make it exciting and make sense...why would Alex not destroy the will and why did she keep it..in that damn bust the EVERYONE walks past to make their latest  dramatic announcement...even Marj's Alex is smarter then that..Alex should have been unaware another version of the will exists, (its just like Brandon to booby trap the mansion for shits and giggles) Roger should have been on a mission to find it and he and Holly go to Barbados to investigate...(I wouldnt put it past Rog to dig Bradon up and pull the will from his skeleton hands...) and they reintroduce the black Spauldings for a future story line...(maybe they run into Vicki who Roger gives his card to.."When you get older contact me, you have potential" ) and give Rog and Holly some alone time to simmer that toxic chemistry they have, while Fletcher stews and starts hanging around Alex for answers and their relatinsonhip starts up...(I would have them leave town together.) Alex is a wreck as Alan says "More and more I think Amanda reminds me of Father, and it scares even me." Alex, "God knows whats she would do if she ever got real power!" etc. Bring Jennifer back to town, maybe on the arms of Mike Bauer, and people catch Alex and Jennifer whispering to each other..."I thought you were never going to come back.."....and "I thought I never would..this horrible house, HIS darkness still is in every corner" ( would have had it that Brandon raped Jennifer and she hid that all these years.."  Then Amanda finds out she is not only been lied to but she is child or rape..the board and the investors freeze the Spaudlings assets..leading Roger to take over...he dumps Amanda (no longer her) and the Amanda goes rogue on her own, and Phillip and Alan have to make an unsteady truce to try to pick up the pieces...(Hey, they can always take over Lewis Oil)

Since he's a Spaulding and she's a Reardon, they both grew up in Springfield. Different parts of Springfield, but wouldn't be the first time a rich boy and poor girl got together. They might have even crossed paths while growing up because of their fathers being connected through that yearly fishing trip.

That was my thought, but it would be so much like Jennifer and Alan it would be hard to make "new" not that this ever bothered the writers. I can see "Lana" getting a job cleaning at the mansion (or maybe since they meet at a farm, it would be the reverse of the trope and she would be the stable girl, training horses, a strong willed Irish girl and ready to take on the snobby preppy rich boy...)

Yes, it was expensive then, too.
