Personally I'm recognizing Ashley's character in tune to my early impressions of Ashley for as far back as I can remember (with a twist). For as long as I can remember Ashley has been a bit errr off her mark, even when it isn't so close to the surface. I always felt the character had issues, she's just comes off lucid with blend of snotty when she seems "normal". It is a bit intriguing to see her try to stand tall only to know she will crumble. Whilst I think what she suffered at the hands of Adam is cruel and inhumane, I am no fan of the character as much as I love ED's portrayal

Except that I am a "fan" of the character, I agree with everything you write here.

I'm a fan of the character more than of Eileen Davidson. I've always felt like Ashley could be more than the frosty headcase. I was always somewhat amused at the irony of the first main story with the return of the "real Ashley" involved huge character assassination (sperm theft).

I do like Eileen Davidson, especially in comedic work, but I guess I will probably always prefer the "fake" Ashley, Brenda Epperson. As it is now I feel like it's too easy to write Ashley as being out to lunch and cold. I think even ED can do more than that if they ever bothered.

Eileen has never been afraid of playing all the levels of the character unlike Brenda.

Brenda can do sweet very well but otherwise she struggled.

It's a lot like the difference between Alex & Sue Walters.

Unfortunately that slightly to totally crazy, desperate mode is the default for a lot of the women on the show now.

Don't forget the baby rabies that usually goes along with it.

I agree ED can play more, I guess I just preferred the sweeter Ashley to the way she has generally been written over the past ten years. I wish they could combine the writing for the various Ashleys. Instead we get crazy storylines, or we get the material no one could play, the nasty gaslighting storyline, or Ashley as a Sabrine placeholder.

LORD yes! It's my nightmare. All these women having babies is just like GH. I don't mind the occasional well done baby story, but I do not watch soaps to see one character after another go baby crazy.

The character has suffered from TPTB overusing Jack & now Billy.

A lot of the problems are also due to Victor.

Ashley like all of his ex wives thrives outside of his orbit.

Exactly!

It makes no sense all these women's lives revolve around being pregnant or getting pregnant.

Especially since they are either 40+ or in their 20's.

In the past 4 years alone

Ashley - Baby

Victoria - Baby

Lauren - Baby

Sharon - Baby

Mackenzie - Baby

Brittany - Baby

Patty - Baby

Chloe - Baby

Giggly Heffa - Baby

Sabrina - Baby

CKLily - Baby

Please don't kill Noah off :(

J.H. C****t...don't say that!!!<_< I have had just about ENOUGH of watching Sharon and her plot-driven dead children and "not dead" children s/ls to last me a lifetime. NO THANK YOU!!! Just send Noah off to college or something because it's obvious that the writers find no value with his character whatsoever even if he is for now Sharon & Nick's living child!!

I won't lie Sharon has done some pathetic things (she was still one of my favs up until now), the character still deserves better writing

She was never my favourite after she lied to Nick about taking birth control pills and it has gone steadily downhill ever since but the writers could turn it around with one simple thing for me...give her a story that makes her worthy to be Noah's mother and for her to treat him like the good son he is. I am so sick of the way they write their relationship..Noah almost died twice and he is hers and Nick's firstborn and they treat him like an afterthought and I am sick of it. If they can write such a story and make Sharon smile once in a while "not the fake smile", a real genuine smile I could really begin to like Sharon...otherwise get her the heck off my screen.

I get that she is supposed to be a tragic character but she's a mistreated, misguided, co-dependent, self loathing/self centered, depressing character (I have the same opinion on the Nick character). These qualities are fine in a character if we can add other dimensions. This character has continually been stripped down to these qualities to the point where I don't recognize any good strong quality anymore

Another thing that the writers could have used: a few weeks back Adam told Sharon a sob story about how Heather is taking out her frustration over his affair with Rafe by going up against anything Rafe does in court. Why wasn't this used? Why didn't we see an organic story of Rafe battling his affair with Adam or realizing that he was only used, or Heather's frustration over having her boyfriend cheat on her with another man (or, most important of all, Heather knowing that Adam had, once again, used her only for his advantage)? There are so many people that should be going up against Adam and instead we only have Nick battling him.
