Y&R: Potpourri Thread

This show is all plot, plot, plot ......and severe rushing of these inane storylines.

This current writing regime is burnt out, and they clearly do not get this show. The glow of their first few months where they were wrapping up old stories and planning their first set of stories is now over, and they've really sunk...

The honeymoon is long over folks....

Something is off. I like your "burnout" idea, because this same group was once better.

The P3-Chance tale is epic...for the record books...in a bad way. It BEATS the Silver Chipmunk.

As I mentioned before, the first 6 months to a year is usually not a good indication of a writing regime's goodness and the quality of their writing. Since they're wrapping up stories from the previous writing regime and putting into motion their new stories that they've had time to really work on, edit, and plan. When the six months to a year are over, the true colours of every writing regime really begins to show. If they can keep up the pace they had, assuming they were good in those initial first few months, they have a better chance of a more successful writing tenure. If they can't and they implode, it is usually not a very good sign.

I believe 3 weeks from now will mark the one year anniversary of the Maria Arena Bell, Hogan Sheffer, and Scott Hamner writing regime. Things are seemingly imploding and getting more and more chaotic, I don't think this bodes very well for this writing regime in the long-run, as what's apparent right now is showing that.

I can only imagine what he would tell people.

Kev: Do you want be an online pedophile?

Burn an innocent girl alive? (or at least try)

I'll tell you this and how to get away with it!

Also included: How to get people to feel sorry for you and how to turn your victims into the villian.

I'm not one of those people who can forget what Kevin did. I hated him even more when they redeemed him (my intelligence felt insulted).

The honeymoon period is over, now it's time to either miraculously shape up or ship out! :)

Since I think many of the problems this she faces won't be getting better, I'm curious in seeing what a better writing regime, with preferably a solo HW, with a better track-record than the HW's on this show currently can do.

Of course, they could suck hard after a year too, but the show and daytime has nothing to lose, if daytime will in fact by gone in a few years anyway...

Nikki throwing David's ashes in manure was a huge, and wonderful payoff to the David storyline.

But I really doubt we will be seeing anything like that (or better) again.

And the spoilers just show that this soap is only gonna be getting worse.

Wow, Y&R viewers are smarter than TPTB give us credit for. Yes, ratings fluctuate, but I knew this show's current direction would turn off many fans, especially longtime fans.

Last week, Y&R hit NEW LOWS in total viewers and tied its lowest in 18-49 and in Households.

Not to mention, they had THREE 3.3's last week!

It's time for someone at CBS, Bell Dramatic Serial Company, and Sony to wake up and make some changes...

The ratings are threading back DOWN, and I really hope we'll get some new writers and producers soon. :)

So, fans are unhappy, ratings are hitting new lows, and those (especially in the press) who've praised the show are slowly turning on it. This isn't good...

Just read two spoilers that piss me off and I'm not even going to wrap them up in spoiler tags....

Jill will ADOPT Cane, A GROWN ASS MAN PUSHING 40. OK, I get that she wants to still consider Cane her son, but does she need to do this at this point in both of their lives? She already left her part of her estate (her part of the Chancellor mansion) in her will, but adopting a man that's almost 40? Don't anyone push this love conquers all crap on me, this was a man who helped conned and she only found out about that two weeks ago, and now she'll legally adopt this adult? And people wonder why so many of us are sick of this Cane propping?

Another is is that Chloe and Chance will have SEX soon, and this will be his first time. So, I guess you're nobody until you're laid on today's Y&R? Sex is already a joke on this show with the quad and Billy screwing any and everything. Couldn't they have had one virginal character (and no, Lily jokes don't apply here) that simply lusts and conceals his sexual desires instead of acting on his impulses? And sex with Chole THIS SOON, especially when she's hardly over Billy and he just came back from town and has apparently been a virgin for this long?

Maria Arena Bell, Hogan Sheffer, and Scott Hamner all need to be fired. These people are ruining all of these characters and these storylines are either not needed, damaging, or just stupid.

Both spoilers are false.

Not that the show's in good shape, just saying...both spoilers are false.

Both spoilers are false.

Thank goodness then, I don't know where DC is getting that crap from.

Not that the show's in good shape, just saying

Well, that's a given!

I actually keep hearing they're giving out false spoilers to weed out the leaks, from a few different boards on the web. There was one for awhile that said Sharon was giving birth to twin boys with different fathers. A few weeks ago on air, she had a sonogram of one baby girl. I wouldn't trust any spoiler anyone gets these days.

Not talking about the writing, or the producing, or defending or excusing...just talking about spoilers. I feel like I need to preface everything with that statement now. :D

I'm wondering with these ratings falls, viewer satisfaction, and criticism from the press will prompt this show to change its direction.

Or if someone will fire these writers and producers who run Y&R. If daytime is dying in a few years, what's the harm done in getting a new writing and producing regime?

Because I don't think anybody in any position of power wants to go through another regime change. I think they're all pretty much checked out. See: Guza.

Surely, we can have some hope that someone in a position of power cares. I mean, surely these falling ratings and demos will worry someone, like they did last year at this very same show.

See, I think I just stole some of your lost optimism.

But then again, if Goutman's lasted at ATWT for a decade despite the crap he's done there over the past 5 years, it does tell me that no one cares anymore in anyplace about this genre...

Someone at Sony must still want a regime change at some level, because they made an effort to bring in new people when the ratings were falling last year.

If, as the soap press likes to claim, Y&R is now the gold standard, the classic, then it's the one that can still be saved, if they fix it in time.

Exactly.

I spent 10 years being optimistic. Now I'm just enjoying whatever I can, for however long I can. The system's not changing. Doesn't matter how much people cry for it, it's just not. This is the hand we're all being dealt, so either we just stop watching now, or stop when it gets canceled and scratch our heads on these message boards and take up a hobby.

Yeah, A. I think you have acquired my optimism. Sad, but true.
