July 4, 200916 yr Member I see furrowed brows, steely face...not the absence of emotion, but a certain resolve. "Okay, here are the facts, no bullsh!t". It is ludicrous for ANY of us, myself included, to try to plumb the depths of these tea leaves (mixing metaphors). Monday is the day to start evaluating, IMO...

I see someone who looks drunk and stoned. As if he didn't know where he was. And as if he doesn't care if he hurt the people he did. We shall see.

July 4, 200916 yr Member I agree. Too much time has passed for Mac/Billy to have some romantic love making scene. They are no longer teens, and today it's pretty much non-existent. People just want to fu-k as sad as it is. Edited July 4, 200916 yr by MTSRocks
July 4, 200916 yr Member A question about this thread. Toups said monthly would be good. Even though we started in late June, should Alvin create a July thread, so we get on the monthly cycle?
July 4, 200916 yr Author Member Thom Bierdz = Y&R's Ronn Moss. Anyway, since I started this thread in late June, we should just let it continue for all of July. I'll start a new one in late July or August 1st, if that's what everyone wants. Edited July 4, 200916 yr by Y&RWorldTurner

July 4, 200916 yr Member Why? What P3 did was a FUNDAMENTALLY selfish act. There can be no more selfish act. At first, it was motivated by being a scared little boy (which tracks, by the way, very much with how Bierdz played him back then). In the ensuing 20 years, P3 has owned his identity and, we presume, developed both some self-confidence and maybe remorse. Of course, that P3 remains the selfish offspring of Jill is shown by the odd way in which he chose to deal with that remorse. He chose NOT to go to GC and confront his demons and to live with authenticity. He sent Ethan Ashby (probably a bloke who frequented his Australian bar whom he found to be cute) in his stead. We all know, now, that didn't work out. So FINALLY, FINALLY, after 20 years he "screwed [his] courage to the sticking point" and decided to tell the truth. I'm sure his rationalization is that P4 was BETTER OFF with no father than the mixed up mess P3 would have been for all his years growing up. I am not saying that P3 was RIGHT, but it seems totally real (I speak from experience) that someone would create such a rationalization. It is THE SAME flavor as Sharon deceiving two men about her unborn child's paternity by figuring people would be 'better off". These justifications may often be vile from the outside...but they may have perfect internal consistency in the mind of the character. P3 is much more interesting if there is no remorse. P3 is more interesting if he finds himself almost dumbfounded by the anger of others. The journey of P3 OWNING his transgressions, making amends to his survivors, and figuring out how to move forward is potentially fascinating, and that is the journey I hope we are on. Let me also say there is a clue here, I think. P3/Langley either owns or works in a BAR. But P3 is an ALCOHOLIC. How does THAT compute? There is much to look forward to ahead, I think, even if the foundations of this story are contrived. I'm worried that they're going to try to make this about Jill's selfish genes causing him to flee, while Katherine, who is now a long-suffering saint according to the writing of this team, is the beacon of light. I don't believe Jill would ever do anything like this to her family. I hope they aren't going to give her part in this story short strift. I don't think Phillip owning a bar means anything. Neil is an alcoholic and he owns a bar. Sharon's constant lies are all driven by plot and have done significant damage to her character in the eyes of many viewers, so I'm not sure if this is the road they should go down with Phillip. I think if Phillip returns and tries to act like he was doing everyone a favor, then many longtime viewers may feel like their memories of the show have been destroyed. If Y&R now has the ability to tell a long, emotional story, explore all the beats, and the fallout, then the story could work. If Phillip fully realizes the horror of what he has done to the people he claimed to love, especially his son, then the story could work. I hope this will happen, and it won't end up like a stunt they didn't have any followthrough for, like Jill and Kay being made mother and daughter (or being unrelated).
July 4, 200916 yr Member Billy Miller did not get eating alive by Peter Bergman in those confrontation scenes over the affair. If you re-watch the scenes, Miller played it perfectly.

I have been rewatching a lot of Lester's Jack Abbott, and they really were cut from the same cloth. Billy is still a boy-man. Billy is still a lost soul. I'm sensing that he may soon make the switch back into being a guy who tries to make right choices. It will be interesting to see if Miller can play "growing up".
