The idea is quite "woh". Dark, yes - but"woh" nonetheless. i think soaps have to be dark today. People seem to be so turned off by anything remotely sappy. Soaps are almost by definition melodramatic. Melodrama can't just be the same old stuff - it has to be current and modern. GL tried to be all "find your light" and look what happened to them!

When does MM debut? I'm really looking forward to seeing his spin on the whole thing. One thing i don't get though is what the hell happened to Heather in all this madness? Did i miss something/ Why has she stopped visiting him or trying to? Have they just broken up?

In one sense I agree with you that it has become ridiculous in recent months in some aspect and I ONLY say that because of one thing. We on message boards tend to watch the show and dissect it as if we are studying for our Ph.D in Soaps  ..the other probably almost 5 million (less now since the show has lost viewers) see this and say you know what, this is rubbish and switch or change to something more watchable. The show has lost its pulse with not only their audience but in the drivers/influencers around said audience that make them decide whether to watch the show or not. And that is not a good situation for any soap these days to be in. The world is already in sad shape as it is, the economy sucks and all people want to do is probably switch on the telly and not see Y&R gone completely DARK. It's ok to have dark and it be good, MJ and Adam come to mind, but the show is offkilter and has gone almost entirely dark.

I have read how MAB, the soap press and others have hyped about these summer storylines as if it is the next coming or something. From my standpoint it sounds like they are more impressed by themselves more than anything. So for their sakes they better pray and hope that it impresses the heck out the audience they don't see on the message boards. Because if this summer tanks..oh well............................................................................

Adam is a monster but not all monsters are created equal. There are three routes for monsters -- Redemption, Death/Punishment or - rarest of all - Keepin on Keepin on. Kevin needed to be redeemed, Phyllis needed to be redeemed. David Kimble & Matt Clarke had to die. What's so damn frustrating to me about CE's departure is that his Adam is the rare villain who does not need any redemption and doesn't have to die. He could have been Keepin on Keepin on. He can be a baby-stealing, baby-killing, baby-faced monster. It gives the writers a lot of freedom with the character. Now, with the recast, Adam surely will have to be redeemed in some capacity or killed off. One non-traditional route for redemption would be him making amends to Ashley at Sharon's expense but that still gets him bad points for letting Sharon suffer.

So, if there is no baby-switch, how do people see Mary Jane messing with Phyllis and/or Sharon? We know she'll do something crazy/evil. The question is, what is it? Oh, and much I love SH, Mary Jane will need to be redeemed at some point. But not before she raises major hell.

I think Ashley is going to wind up on deaths door when she doesn't get a D&C. If they turn MJ into Sheila, it will just go to show how uninventive MAB really is. Sharon has enough drama going on without a baby steal.

You can be dark and diverse, but this show is so run of the mill when it comes to its cliche storytelling. There is nothing unique of different about the storytelling on Y&R. TIIC seem to think sensationalism sells, and only that. This show is missing heart and a moralistic center. Too many storylines seem to follow the same pattern, and in the end, the motivations of these characters are so confusing that it's hard to care anymore.

What if Phyllis steals the baby. She's pretty ticked. She could give it to Ashley. Maybe everyone has a part. MJ makes everyone think it's Nick's baby so she can have a chance with Jack, then Phyllis steals the baby and gives it to Ashley not knowing it's Jack's baby.
