Members AllAboutAngst
It's been printed before that Y&R has the largest AA audience of the soaps (actually I believe it said they had twice as many AA viewers as the soap that comes in second even), but I think it was somewhere like 50% of the audience is African-American. I'll go and see if I can find that info, but I've read it in print before.
Members rhythmchyc
Once she ripped Carmen's clothes and Neil committed her, Dru was ruined. I wish Gloria was driven mad instead.
Members DeeeDee
Her ego's no worse than her peers. Phyllis cut up Sharon's clothes & was arrested. Does that mean she's ruined?
Members Juliajms
It's possible, but it doesn't seem likely. Don't AA's make up about 15% of US population? If it is true they are even dumber than I thought for letting VR walk and for putting Tyra and Lily at the forefront of the Winter's family. Members DeeeDee
Why is it so hard to believe Y&R would be that popular? There's a reason Bell & Alden maintained their characters of color while other soaps didn't.
Members Juliajms
I guess because I don't think they have been all that accommodating to their AA audience, especially not in the last several years. But I suppose GH isn't very accommodating to it's female audience and I'm sure the percent of female viewers is around 85%, so loyalty goes a long way. Members rhythmchyc
If Nick sent Phyllis to an asylum afterwards and everyone believed she was bonkers and Nick was completely justified, then yeah, her character would be ruined too.
Members Juliajms
Dru is not ruined. I bet if there was a poll on the character Y&R viewers want back most, Dru would be at or near the top of that list. I know I would welcome her back in an instant. Members DeeeDee
There's been several regime changes over the last several years. But Bell & Alden were always very respectful of their AA audience. Exactly. Claire Labine was female friendly. Guza not so much.
Members DeeeDee
The thing was Dru WASN'T bonkers. LML's just a hack. Indeed.
Members rhythmchyc
Oh, I'd love her back too, instantly. But not if they'd invent some sorry interpretation of her. I bet she'd be like Tyra.
Members Juliajms
This won't be a popular opinion, but I think they should have let VR have some creative input on Dru/Winter's storylines. Not full control, but some say in the stories. She does have writing experience after all and she sure as hell couldn't have done worse than LML.
