Members Chris B
We Loves Soaps is reporting that the new issue of CBS SID states that Phillip IV will be Rafe's love interest! I'll never understand why viewers got so upset when Rafe was made gay. It was always pretty obvious that he wouldn't be the established character that's gay. I think it was smart to develop him, give him a family (Estella) and friends (Adam, Colleen, Billy) before they threw him into a storyline. He hasn't overstepped his bounds as a newcomer, he's developing nicely. Phillip will have it easier since he has an entire family. Should be interesting to see how this develops! I'm just glad it wasn't Adam or JT.

I'm just glad it wasn't Adam or JT. I'm glad to hear this. I was hoping Phillip IV would be gay. I think it would make for a great story. Plus I think it would have him in a lot of scenes with Jill and hopefully Nina. Okay, so far I wished Jill/Kay would be undone. It was. I wished Phillip IV would be gay. Looks like it's gonna happen. I'm still hoping Cane isn't the real Phillip III and TB's Phillip was the real son of Jill.
Members DRW50
I'm not sure I would call Rafe established. He has a few fleeting friendships with people who barely know him, and his aunt is a plot device for a gaslighting story. I like Rafe yet I can barely remember him half the time. Phillip as gay has potential, with proper pacing (a struggle for soaps today). I wonder if they're going to make sure he's left the military so they won't have to touch the DADT hot potato. I'm very happy they didn't involve Adam in this storyline. I wonder if we're going to get any type of rivalry with Billy (we can never have enough Billy, apparently) or Cane which will only make the story more explosive when the truth is out. Members Faulkner
Lots of potential - the DADT angle would certainly make it timely and could get the show some mainstream press. And it would be a new take on the traditional gay "coming out" storyline. But I wonder where they could go with the story. I think it's always problematic when a character's main conflict is with characters who aren't on the canvas (meaning "the military"). Rafe isn't tied enough to the show for any real story fallout. And it would be sad for Little Phillip to become another pawn in the Jill/Kay story.
Members Y&RWorldTurner
Listen, I applaud them for taking such a huge step with a legacy character like Phillip IV, but I have no faith in a gay storyline ever being told truthfully on daytime television. Particularly, this writing regime doesn't seem like romance stories, and their pacing can either be hit or miss, and daytime as a whole has botched so many gay storylines over the past ten years that I'm very pessimistic as to how this one will turn out. I will have to watch it to judge it I guess. But I wonder if Nina knows her son is gay, and how Jill will react to having a gay grandson. I'm sure Jill will be accepting, but who knows. Members DRW50
That's why I think they may just avoid the DADT route. While polls shows around 70-80% of the public support gays in the military, the issue still causes huge controversy when pressed, and I don't know if Y&R wants a huge controversy for this storyline, especially since it gets them very little storywise, since Phillip obviously can't stay in the military if he's going to be a regular on the show. They said they were testing him with various women. I wonder if that means he tries to keep up appearances, only for someone to eventually find out he's gay and use it against him. Since Cane is what Phillip's father used to be, I can see some conflict between them. I also wouldn't be surprised if Rafe is just a small part of the storyline. Members Y&RWorldTurner
Let me add, let's just hope we don't see people pimping them as the next supercouple and making Pafe banners BEFORE this storyline ever airs. Rabid fanbases with agendas can stay gone.
Members DRW50
There have already been people saying this story will put ATWT to shame, they were saying it when Rafe hadn't even come out yet. I don't know if this story will have any type of big romance, but some people are so sick of Nuke, the less time they spend on Phillip having any type of love life, the more impressed some viewers may be. That this means they are focusing on who he is, not his sexuality, and so on.
Members Y&RWorldTurner
They should establish Phillip as a character first before they even think of jumping deeply into this storyline. If the pacing sucks from the beginning, then this entire storyline will be botched from the start. I am not a fan of MAB's pacing most of the time, so I have very little hope, but she may surprise me. How I wish we had a Bill Bell/Agnes Nixon/Doug Marland/Nancy Curlee-type writer to write a storyline like this...
Members DRW50
I'm just wary of the possibility of this being all about his big secret. I also don't want to see any scenes where Jill tells Nina all about how she was a bad mother and she made Phillip gay. I'm afraid his being gay will be used as some type of plot device or weapon, not who he is. I don't know if Y&R is in a place right now which would be able to tell a story about a young gay man, it's almost entirely about men who obsess over women and kids, or women who are weak flowers or psycho, or both. I hope Hogan is kept far away from the storyline. I think this story should be one that unfolds over a long period of time. I wouldn't even have addressed his sexuality for a long time, I think he could have come back with PTSD, he could have struggled with his place in the Chancellor family now that he isn't the heir. I can see that being great material for some time before his sexual orientation becomes an issue.
Members YRBB
Oh, please. Did you ever see Phillip in 97/98/99/00? Nina so knows!

Members YRBB
You are tempting me to say something ignorant like "I guess Phillip never stopped" But don't make me! But seriously, considering his --unintentional, at least by the writers-- flamboyant portrayal when he was a kid, Phillip was a prime candidate.
