I agree completely with your statement here.  And the actors and others will have unique insights to that era.  I'm excited to read what they have to say.  But my concern was (and still is) that the two individuals who would have the most inside information and history are Lemay and Rauch, who are both deceased.  As biased as both of them would probably be -- they both would have historical information that nobody else has.  So to ignore them all together (which Mr. Lisanti has not said he intends to do) would be a mistake in my opinion.

As the holidays approach I love watching the old soaps that did it up. I had never seen this episode.  I love the Cory house scenes.  I liked the Culliton/Tomlin brief era.  Not sure what happened there, but Richard lasted at any show as head writer for longer periods than a year or 18 mo.  Gary had a some tenure at Days. Perhaps it was NBC interference since Days was taking off in the ratings. But P&G was usually behind bizarre and impulsive writer changes or let incompetent EPs choose i.e. Steve Schenkel picking Gillian Spencer and pairing her with ol Sam Hall.

In my usual video hosting site, my usual account name, I have 3 compiled videos of Cory Christmas Vol. 1, 2 & 3. Then I have AW Christmases 1982 through 1987 consecutive, then 1990 & 91, last 1993 through 1997, 17 files total. I also have 2 GL Christmases. The easiest way to access them is to do a search on the word Christmas.

If you want an exact link, PM me.

I understand about the extremes of opinions. Sometimes discussion makes that appear worse than it actually is. I would hope that Tom will take into account written & published material as well as the interviews he conducts. HER STORIES by Elana Levine has the best overview of the network expansion IMO. As has been stated already there's a fair amount in Lemay's book. I don't know what Tom's plans are but I'm going to keep a good thought. It's very exciting for this to be covered at all.

Tonight we managed to see 2 episodes. We hadn't watched for quite some time, because of my husband's schedule and his early falling asleep.

December 13th and December 14th 1988.

Let's get to work, shall we!

First we had the aftermath of that horrible gallery fiasco. Amanda... waking up alone with the gigolo Evan lurking in the background. Sam, in a similar position... alone and in distress about what happened last night.

The situation as he later put it... is this - they stole his chance of ever knowing if people truly appreciate his talent or not. Rachel had something else to say and I'm thankful she was not saying just Sorry and being regretful. Her point of view made a lot of sense - she just gave him the chance, the platform to showcase his talent... and that everything else that follows... is his own achievement. Sam was not buying  it at all. Amanda reacted as horrible as I expected, blaming her mother... Oh, Rachel, Rachel... your children are so spoiled. If I had a mother like Rachel, I would treasure her and not nit-pick everything she does. But that's just my opinion. I am pro-Rachel in the situation.

We also had a surprisingly human moment, a touching scene involving Cass and Caroline-the-flirt... who finally revealed her background and motivations in life. It was about time! She told Cass the story of her life and upbringing. How money and becoming rich changed her father... how her mother got sick. How he father's gambling got out of control. We also found out that Caroline, as superficial and predictable as she appeared till now, was actually trying to collect money to help her mother. Sadly... she did not get the chance to help her. She passed away. Life is so unexpected sometimes.

In the end of the day... sadly for her, all the men, that she surrounds herself with... disappeared, first Cass and then Evan who came in to support her for couple of minutes... and she was left all alone. All alone with her sorrow, loss and pain. Powerful moment.

On to the next episode.

Here comes Iris again. I missed my little fox. Rachel came in the office... guns blazing... and warned her not to reveal what happened at the gallery to Mac. Do you really think she can be trusted, Rachel? Saying to Iris - don't do it... is like saying DO IT in Iris-language. The little fox was smirking all the way. We know she IS going to use that to her advantage.

The preparation for the ball is in full force... we had Iris and Donna visit Sharlene... With Iris being disgusted by the smell of manure and Donna even more absurd and out of place. Mean girls at their worst. Sharlene tolerated them more than I would.

A wicked moment arose when Michael arrived and Iris told in cypher that there was a man she wanted to be with... but that would have been too scandalous to say. Meaw. I think Donna was not aware of what Iris meant... and that made the scene that much more tasty. It was soap opera at it's finest.

We also had Josie being gaslit by her friend from school into singing once again for the boys at a Christmas party. Of course they are going to make her wear skimpy clothes... so Josie is slowly walking towards a dangerous path. All in the goal of having more money to buy herself a dress and a gift for Mathew. Sometimes good intentions lead us to scary paths. Be careful Josie... skimpy outfits is always only the beginning!

We also had Lisa arraigning to meet a man from the dating service... AND Amanda and Evan working on the article about the service. Something smells rotten here. We will see what happens.

Overall...

Favorite moment. Iris leaving in a coded way.

And at the same time I try to go slowly, since the episodes are limited in quantity. It would be such a dream if more complete years were available... As in before 1986 and after 1992. Maybe some day

Our Another World Pre-Christmas Marathon continues!

December 15th 1988

We start off with Vicky and her lack of Christmas tree! Jamie to the rescue... sort of. Vicky wanted more with him... (had a loooove fantasy) as usual, but Jamie is still Jamie and... still not biting on her hook completely. She wants to feel his entire love and attention. Good luck, Vicky! I doubt you'll ever get them. After you basically manipulated him into leaving the girl he loves. Not going to happen the easy way, darling. You have some karma coming your way.

Josie, sweet naive girl! What mess did you get yourself into! Going around the room with the bag of gifts, entertaining guy after guy after guy! Wait till Mathew finds out about this! And of course... the fun and games sped out of control quite quickly when you have in mind the level of testosterone in the room. Josie somehow ended sitting in one of the frat boys' lap... just in time for Rachel's expressive trademark glare to catch that moment.

We had a cute moment in which Liz came and wanted legal advice from Cass... about a noisy dalmatian that has been disturbing her sleep. NOW... Hear me out - I AM THE SAME. My husband laughed while we watched that scene and said - She's just like you! You threaten to sue people like that all the time. And... I not only threaten - I sue! And I've won every time I've sued someone. And I've been having a similar problem these past few days with noisy neighbors who have decided to do construction... while I'm having my winter vacation. So Liz, girl... don't be ashamed - wanting to sue people for their noisy dalmatian and stating that it's causing you severe emotional distress is absolutely fine by me. Liz is my kind of girl.

The highlight of the episode for me was Liz coming to visit Rachel and having a powerful scene of forgiveness. When Rachel asked Liz what her plans were for Christmas... she responded - Absolutely nothing. Then Rachel invited her to their house.

I felt in in my heart.

December 16th 1988

It's time! The ball is about to begin... Iris is making final touches... and we have backstage drama all around Bay City - so many people unsure if they are going or not.

Iris's plans to break up Sam and Amanda seem to be working, because we have Amanda informing Iris that she is probably not going to come to the ball. Iris faking sympathy as usual. But smirking to the side. Amanda, sadly... is buying whatever Iris is selling.

We have Josie, happy and giddy, finally on the brink to buy her much needed dress... but long and behold... the bitchy woman at the counter said - Not today... We don't except this kind of payment, missy. So... Josie was in tears for a moment, with no way to buy her dress and the time ticking! But only until Iris arrived to pick up her own dress and saw Josie in distress. Like in a scene from a Disney movie... The Queen asked The Girl - What is the matter, sweetheart, why are you crying... And after realizing what a golden chance she has to manipulate Mathew through Josie... Iris offered to buy her the dress. Josie agreed, not realizing that she's going to have to pay a price for this later. Iris never does something good just for the sake of the good.

We had the marvelous Sharlene coming down the stairs in her beautiful white dress and John, as dashing as a prince... in complete awe of her. This is the first time he is seeing her out of her work and around the house clothes. I had goosebumps. I love Sharlene and John - their chemistry should be studied! I am rooting for them soooo much.

In a contrasting storyline we had one of my favorite characters, Mary helping a girl - a domestic violence victim. This is the second time she is at the hospital... and this time Mary offered to bring her into her home so she can feel safe. Her abusive boyfriend... who stalked her to the hospital... watched them leave... and I couldn't help but wonder... Is something bad going to happen to Mary?

Back to the ball... The snowflake fairytale is about to begin, when Iris, dressed like the lead character she is... arrived on a horse-drawn sleigh. Girls - watch and learn... and write down notes. This is how you make an entrance!

10/10

Favorite moment - The Queen Bee. This is how I plan to arrive next time I visit my husband's family.
