Thanks for the comment, Contessa.  Sometimes I get my hackles up when I perceive someone is hoping to crack-down on spoilers in a discussion group for historic cancelled soaps.  You are a soap opera historian and I am too, perhaps to a lesser degree.  And in these discussions of cancelled soap operas (some cancelled decades ago), I want to read and learn as much about a particular show's history as I can -- spoilers be damned.  On the other hand, I can understand why someone might want to avoid spoilers. But as I said in my previous post, avoiding spoilers should be the reader's responsibility, not the responsibility of the other posters -- especially for cancelled soaps.  Many of the AW related details you and I have discussed over the past years could have never been shared, if we were expected to avoid historical spoilers in our discussions.  Can you imagine??

I may have misunderstood Maxim's intent when spoilers were mentioned.  But I just don't want these Cancelled Soap threads to become spoiler free.  Because in discussions about history, avoiding spoilers is deadly to the conversation.  Of course this is all my opinion, but I've experienced groups that became spoiler-free, and they all withered-on-the-vine almost immediately.

And now let's go into my take on episode 5858 - July 17, 1987.

Overall better than the episode before. More dynamic and better dialogue. And how can I be unhappy when Anne Heche stole the episode for me? I loved her!

I'm not going to go into extreme detail, since I will be repeating myself. And... this

Since we have been chatting about Margaret DePriest here is an interview with her regarding her plan for AW in 1986.  It is interesting that Donna Swajeski is also interviewed as an NBC exec. I understand the desire to refocus the show on 3 families but all 3 families ended up being mainly filled with recasts and 3 popular families (Matthews, Ewings, Hardings) were completely written out. I wonder if they would have come up with a different plan if they had know they would lose Anna Stuart, Stephen Schnetzer, Julie Osburn, Kathleen Layman,  Ellen Wheeler and Tom Eplin all in a matter of months.

I can imagine. I agree with you. My only thing is that when I know a person is sensitive to spoilers because of their circumstances, then I try to be aware & considerate. But that is a person to other person kind of thing.

I think it's crazy & would not attempt it. Besides as a newbie there is so much to learn from veteran fans.

Thank you for this. Some of the comments they make sound OK but did not resemble what actually happened, and some are just obnoxious, IMO. Bizarrely insulting to Ellen Wheeler in trying to justify why it made sense to sideline Marley and focus more on Vicky. Promising to make Brittany sexy when what they actually did was go all in on having Peter abuse and terrorize her and then suddenly have widowed Catlin become devoted to her. And since she was like Peter's prisoner until she shot him and then she was in jail until her trial, I don't even think they had her and Catlin have sex at all before they left town. It was an awful story and completely swept under the rug how badly Brittany had behaved breaking up Catlin and Sally, getting pregnant and tricking Peter into marrying her. (That's an example of DePriest ignoring even very recent history she didn't write in order to write what she felt like writing.) Making a distinction between the Loves and the Corys would have been interesting in theory, but here we see the claim that Mac was a self-made man which is not how he was originally introduced while the Loves were snobs but IMO the focus on Reginald "the Vulture" didn't make that distinction in any real way and the dilution of Donna in the recast from Anna Stuart to Philece Sampler actively undermined it. "Donna and Michael are so wonderful together" was also completely blown up by the introduction of John.

Please don't refer to the clout chaser as a historian. Historians generally have their facts straight.

I totally agree that cancelled soaps discussions would vanish if we can't discuss what happened on them. People should monitor themselves and if they see a conversation veering toward something they are unaware of, just scroll past.

Thanks. Looks like Jake and Paulina (Judi Evans). No idea what is going on in their storyline -- the Homicide episode aired Oct 1994 so maybe it's after they got back together after she had broken up with Ian Rain? But the HLOTS discussion is about gratuitous sex on TV and doesn't illuminate the AW story.

I like the word love... I'm beginning to really fall in love with Another World! How do I know? Last night I had a dream about finding all the classic episodes online.

Heart of gold? I'm yet to notice that. Excuse me... I'm distracted.

I want a dream like that too. I'll play myself... and help Chad... wean himself off his bad ways.  (if my husband is reading - I am only joking... Don't return my Christmas presents! I deserve them.)

Btw... Vicky and her 37 000 dollars of a hotel bill! Anna Delvey - learn from this!

Just imagine if Vicky didn't have a wealthy father, like Michael, and also of course he dotes on her. She knew he would get her out of that jam. But, we can't blame her because they've set it up where Micheal & Donna want to make up for the time they've lost when they didn't even know she existed.

But, you see, one detective is griping about gratuitous sex. That's because Jake & Paulina are in bed in the scene & being all lovey-dovey, so it is about the show.

Yes. I just meant that in their dialogue they didn't say anything like "I am so happy that Paulina has accepted Jake's marriage proposal! I never liked her with Ian. Also, has Brett received the results of her biopsy?" which would help narrow down when the clip was. And even the little snippets of Jake and Paulina's conversation did not illuminate anything for me. I think she says that he is back to his old self and that it is very hot.
