Members MarkH
You all were very helpful to me, recently, when you helped me find ratings for different daypart genres. That led to my latest blog post, and also helps me contextualize daytime ratings. Now, I have another (provoked by a user who wants a correlation between daytime and primetime ratings since the 1950s). Below is a list of soaps. At top, I have put those for which I think I know the network. Could you please look at this and verify? Also, for a few network hoppers (EON, SFT) can you confirm the start/stop years on each network? For the soaps at bottom, I can guess the network, but I'm not sure. Can you let me know, or point me somewhere where I could find out? Thanks in advance. I promise I'll report the findings ABC shows All My Children - ABC Dark Shadows - ABC General Hospital - ABC Loving - ABC One Life to Live - ABC Ryan’s Hope - ABC Port Charles - ABC The City - ABC CBS shows As The World Turns – CBS Capitol - CBS Guiding Light - CBS Search for Tomorrow – CBS until ? Members MarkH
You all rock! What this will let me do is examine by-network correlations between daytime and primetime since the 1950s. What it will let me examine (a hypothesis suggested by a SON-Ner) is whether the fortunes of the daypart are linked. Mixed effects models...here I come! (This is a total distraction from work and personal life, but I need that so badly right now I could spit!).
Members MarkH
Okay, thank you for your help with this. It enabled me to complete the analysis I wanted to do. I did an analysis that examines how daytime ratings rise-and-falls have compared to primetime rise-and-falls over the same period. The short answer is that it is complicated. But as I noted in the ratings thread, and most ominous for soaps, it looks a bit like that in the 2000s soaps fell at a faster rate than primetime. That's not good for the health of the genre. Thanks to each of you in this thread for your help; I credited you .

Members MarkH
I am glad they amuse you. Quantifying really is a huge part of my world view. I'd be a perfect network bean counter.
Members bellcurve
Wasn't Guiding Light a radio show on NBC? And when it moved to TV, it then went to CBS?
Members All My Shadows
I think it switched in either 1948 or 1950. It was around the time the Bauers were first introduced.
