Maybe they are going to turn Jake into an alcoholic?

I'm not to fond of RPG's portrayal of the character either, most of the time it seems like he's playing Jake as being drunk, high or like he's taken on some surfer guy mentality.

You hit the nail right on the head with this! Jake/RPG went from hero to zero with me - I can't stand his acting or take on the Jake character. Its like a joke or he's always trying to adlib and not take things seriously. Drunk, surfer, high...totally correct.

And I can't stand Taylor anymore - although it is nice that she's become nicer and less bitchy and is slowly becoming integrated into the cast (Greenlee/Emma/Brot/Colby/Frankie...).

I'm actually growing more ambivalent on Taylor too. I almost preferred her as a "war nut." At least then she stood for something.

And how sad is it that Jake, who's supposed to be a nice guy, comes off like a drunk as*hole and JR who's supposed to be a drunk as*hole simply seems like a bad actor.

I think the point is that Jake's entire life has fallen down around his ears...he lost his wife, he lost his purpose (the position in Darfur), he lost his job, and he sacrificed his feelings so that Taylor could be the love of her life... He is a broken man...and he is trying to deflect everything with humor.

To me, the saddest thing of all is that despite all of the love and care he dispenses to anyone in need...no one, and I do mean no one, has bothered to do the same for him... Jake is clearly twisting in the wind and in a lot of emotional pain...and yet none of those who claim to be his friends or family have troubled themselves to show any concern for him, and they all know that he has lost everything....

I love Jake. Think about it...he has no life, no woman and no job. I would be drinking a lot too! That said, I'm rooting so much for Jake. He's so sad and spending all of his time helping everyone else with their problems and no one is there for him. Every time Amanda has called him, he's been there for her.

RPG is a gem and I think he's the best thing that has ever happened to the Jake character and I hope things will get better for Jake soon.

I still like Jake actually though I get the arguments (and I think they have made him insult Amanda one too many times... ). However, yeah on yesterday's episode Taylor finally asked how JAKE was feeling I was like *wow*--I haven't even heard Joe ask that lately and he basically is shown going from bar to bar lately. I mean he's not JR drunk and I'm not one to talk about people drinking anyway but obviously there's something there... I hope they deal with it and don't ignore it.
