January 23, 200916 yr Member TV Week Article Interesting article in regards to the ABC Network as a whole considering a rumor couple of weeks ago about "All My Children" will be relocating studio-wise and other possible developments? Discuss here. Here's another article from in regards to ABC's latest news: Broadcasting & Cable. I can see ABC Network merging executive positions together to cut down the overlapping/redundancy and other developments, perhaps Brian Frons will be reassigned or let go? Discuss more folks! January 23, 200916 yr Member Hmmm sounds like they might be prepping someone to take over for Sweeney-who basically is useless. If they fire anyone it had better be Frons, there's no way he comes cheap
January 23, 200916 yr Member “The landscape of our business, and an opportunity to coalesce the creative process dictated this change in structure," Ms. Sweeney said. "By operating these units in a coordinated fashion, we’ll be able to present the industry with a unified, cohesive creative vision for ABC programming, which will serve us well as we move forward.” That is some seriously beautiful corporate gibberish.
January 23, 200916 yr Member That is some seriously beautiful corporate gibberish. I agree. Somebody was paid a full day's work for that load of horse manure. Nice work if you can get it.
January 23, 200916 yr Member In other words, ABC still will use its roster to develop programming for outside networks, but that won't be its chief goal. WTF? would they want to do that? They need to focus on their own shows
January 23, 200916 yr Member WTF? would they want to do that? They need to focus on their own shows Because ABC would make MORE money putting shows on other networks. I heard NBC/Universal makes a killing off of HOUSE being on FOX. As you probably know, HOUSE is owned by NBC/Universal. If ABC can develop shows to outsource to other networks they don't own, they could make more money because they would own the show.
January 23, 200916 yr Member If ABC can develop shows to outsource to other networks they don't own, they could make more money because they would own the show. Isn't that what happened with Scrubs? ABC/Disney/Touchstone owned it, but "rented" it out to NBC, where it survived for (five? six?) seasons, only now moving over to ABC.

Yup, I believe so. Although I find it surprising the heads would want to bring it to ABC. It wasn't a huge ratings winner on NBC. Maybe they just want more episodes to pad for syndication. I find it so funny that the networks that own certain properties aren't even trying to be discreet about their ownership or branding of them anymore. I'm noticing this in primetime and in syndication. There may have been a legal issue with studios having a monopoly over syndication prior to what is going on now. Big Ticket Television, Paramount, Viacom, and KingWorld(the company that singlehandedly invented the way syndicated television runs today) are now under one umbrella: CBS/Paramount Television Distribution. Buena Vista Television is now ABC/Disney Domestic Television(or something). And NBC Studios/Universal/USA Studios is now NBC/Universal. There's also early speculation in the trades that CBS/Paramount(the company that distributes WHEEL/JEOPARDY!) may want to place those shows on CBS's O&O stations when their licensing agreement with ABC's O&O's expire in the near future. What it all means for SOAPnet and ABC Daytime is anyone's guess. But I'm willing to guess this has more to do with the syndication/studio brand. Edited January 23, 200916 yr by bellcurve
January 23, 200916 yr Member That is some seriously beautiful corporate gibberish. LOL... was about to post the same thing. I hate to see anyone lose their job. And despite some seemingly awful creative decisions under Frons, he does work his tail off to keep soaps going (I think he does the wrong things, but he does try hard). I fear a new daytime person might not care at all about soaps. Also, the problem with Frons may well be Disney's "creative vision" - and it could get worse.
