Big defeats for Republicans. I wonder if these two measures are signs to come. Personally, I think whoever wins the Republican nom is going to get blast next year by Obama and his campaign. How anyone can put Romney or any of the other candidates over this POTUS is beyond me. Not trying to get anything started, but none of them have NO PLAN whatsoever.

To round up - the Ohio union-busting law was repealed by a huge margin. Gov. Kasich has said he is going to try to pass various parts of the law into separate bills.

Mississippi voted down the personhood amendment by a comfortable margin (about 57%). They also passed a voter ID law. Their state senate will remain Republican and the state house, controlled by Democrats, is now either tied or will be controlled by Republicans.

Virginia's state senate is now, thanks to a vote mishap at the last minute, likely to be controlled by Republicans. A recount is pending.

New Jersey stayed the same.

Kentucky elected mostly Democrats to state offices, although by a narrower margin than some expected. The only Republican to win was for ag commissioner, as the Democrat running decided to joke that Eastern Kentuckians were hillbillies and that he wasn't qualified for the job.

Arizona recalled the anti-immigrant senator who has become a national icon among tea partiers.

Michigan recalled a Republican legislator due to anger over role in laws against teachers and teacher unions. He says he wants to move on, but the House GOP says the voting was irregular and they want a recount.

Maine repealed the law which got rid of same-day registration.

Here's a CNN article explaining why the "Personhood" ballot measure went down to defeat in Mississippi:

http://news.blogs.cn...sure/?hpt=hp_c1

Clearly, any objective, non-partisan adult would have to conclude that CNN is part of the "Conservative News Media" after reading this article. (Thank goodness for truly non-biased sources of news such as the Huffington Post.)

Carl, a major reason why some conservatives were opposed to this measure is because they thought it was too extreme. If CNN was some tool of the right-wing, they wouldn't have reported that, nor would they have mentioned the concerns that women had with the law.

This is an interesting article. Until I read this I didn't quite get why some on the far right were so adamantly defending Cain. Now I see. It's not about Cain, it's about convincing people that there is no such thing as sexual harassment.

I saw this this morning on the news. There is truly no possible way that campaign can screw this up more. This is truly laughable.

Republicans now want their names removed from the Norquist pledge.

Today, all employees at Jon Corzine's former company--MF Global--were terminated.

Perhaps, now more than ever, we need more government stimulus that President Obama and Congressional Democrats are pushing for. After all, I am sure that the white-collar ex-employees at MF Global can easily transfer their skills and apply them to a shovel-ready job.

    • I really appreciated all the movement in today's episode.  It resonated with me that it felt like the sort of nervous energy that can surround a family after death. I want to point out the EJ scene.  I was riveted by his multi-layered performance. When he told Belle that he went to her because he loved her, and then saw that she was embarrassed by him, and rejected the part of her that was attracted to him.  It started to make even more sense why he would try to protect Johnny (who I still don't think shot him).  EJ feels like a pariah (although TBH, it wouldn't have hurt to bring Marlena some of that tea that everyone had been promising her all morning).  And he doesn't want to pass that along to his son by exposing him as the shooter.
    • -- What a stupid party. Devon and Abby leave while Victor goes upstairs to the GCAC bar and talks with Kyle. Then we see Jack giving Nikki ANOTHER birthday toast as if the party has just begun. Huh??? -- This party perfectly encapsulates sweeps month for this show: lame, deadly, boring af. -- Once again, Cole gets really sick and no one insists on an ambulance or the ER. They really want him dead, don't they? Instead we hear multiple characters say "Gee, I hope Victoria doesn't catch it." Cole will be dead before Dumas. -- Kyle is really offering to make a contract with Victor so he can continue to see Claire? Jesus Wept. -- And then the shoe ends with Victor praising Nikki for softening his heart over the years -- after we've seen him treat Kyle, Michael, and Jack like sh_it for days.
    • Your welcome! Will never understand the point of Budig! I forget she’s there 95% of the time and Thudley does too!
    • I do think Zane could have been a decent long-term addition if they hadn't disposed of him - up to Lucas' arrival, at least.

    • If he was responsible for Egyptian dust, you should have led with that! That one thing cinches it for me.
    • I would consider recasting Nikolas again just for the sake of those around him, but you may be right.
    • Watched Mondays episode, wow! That’s all I have to say. It was heartbreaking to watch. You really don’t know how invested you are in these characters until moments like this. Deidre was absolutely phenomenal in that whole episode, as I am sure she will be in the coming weeks. I was a bit torn about having Bo and Hope being the contrast in this episode, but I understand why they did it. And when Bo woke up and said fancy face to Hope, it broke me even more! Honestly, there are no more words except bravo to everyone involved and RIP to the greatest hero that ever existed in soaps John Black

    • Watching this longer clip I truly am impressed with the effects but also the direction - the moments of fear in the ballroom before the blast are wonderful. What I appreciate most here is the lack of a montage and the lack of aggressive editing.  This all looks better than quite a bit you could find elsewhere at the time, let alone now. Julia should have avoided weddings.
    • I hope somewhere in the fictional universe, Sami called Vivian to tell her about John. They just shared an Uber to the airport, so I assume they have each other's contact info (no matter the universe, they both probably only have 3
