Here's a better and longer view of Senator Padilla being arrested for requesting to ask a question.  They forced him to his knees and flat on the floor and then handcuffed him

This video shows the start of him asking the question:

Info from The Guardian live blog
https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/live/2025/jun/12/la-protests-los-angeles-california-curfew-ice-immigration-marines-national-guard-donald-trump-latest-updates

at this point in the CBS recording that Padilla could be heard beginning his question with the words: “Madame Secretary, I want to know why you insist on exaggerating-”. As Noem continued reading her remarks, without even pausing, the CBS camera panned to show Padilla, at some distance from her across the room.

Just three seconds into the incident, Padilla could be seen standing, with his left hand raised slightly in a rhetorical gesture, and trying to continue with his question, as a security officer placed his hand on the senator’s chest and began pushing him away from the front of the room.

There is no visual evidence in the clip to suggest that Padilla was moving in Noem’s direction when he started speaking, or was ever within 10-15 feet of her.

Noem’s decision to ignore the interruption and continue reading her remarks also did not look or sound like the behavior of someone who had been lunged at.

-----------------------------------------

Afterwards

the Republican speaker of the House of Representatives Mike Johnson defend the handcuffing of the California senator Alex Padilla.

“A sitting member of Congress should not act like that. It is beneath a member of the Congress, it is beneath a US senator,” he said, calling Padilla’s actions “wildly inappropriate”.

He added: “They’re supposed to lead by example. That is not a good example. We have to turn the temperature down in this country and not escalate it. The Democrat party is on the wrong side. They’re defending lawbreakers, and now they’re acting like lawbreakers themselves.”

Johnson accused Padilla of “charging a cabinet secretary at a press conference”.

If that’s what they do to a United States Senator with a question, imagine what they can do to any American that dares to speak up. We will hold this administration accountable.

If this is how this administration responds to a Senator with a question, you can only imagine what they're doing to farmworkers, to cooks, and to day laborers throughout California and across the country. We will hold this administration accountable.

Israel has just attacked Iran in a preemptive strike, allegedly targeting many of their bases or nuclear testing sites. They claim it is the first but far from the last strike.

The technical term for Rubio's response here is known in the trade as 'shítting himself.'

Thank you for posting.  There's a gazillion things happening in the news and somehow I missed this, and it's very critical.

These strikes are ongoing and seem to be absolutely annihilating the highest ranks of Iran's armed forces and possibly larger regime.

I have serious doubts that Iran has any workable nuclear capability, but I don't love taking that bet.

Does Mike Johnson even realize the massive hypocrisy he's exhibiting? He whines about Democrats defending lawbreakers while having his entire head up convicted felon Donald Trump's ass!

  • Two Minnesota politicians and their spouses were shot by an assassin impersonating a police officer.  The shootings occurred at the victims' homes.

  • Two of the victims have died, and the other two just came out of surgery.

  • Investigators have found a list of more politicians that the assassin planned to kill.

The assassin hasn't been caught yet, but their fake police vehicle was recovered. The suspect is either now on foot or in another vehicle.

updates from the Minneapolis Star-Tribune and Governor Tim Walz
https://www.startribune.com/brooklyn-park-police-searching-for-suspect-in-multiple-targeted-shootings/601372993

  • Current member of the Minnesota State House as leader of the DFL Caucus, and previously Speaker of the Minnesota House, Melissa Hortman, and her husband Mark -- were both shot and killed this morning in what appears to be a politically-motivated assassination.
  • Minnestota State Senator John Hoffman and his wife Yvette were both shot multiple times.
“The Hoffmans are out of surgery at this time and receiving care, and we are cautiously optimistic that they will survive this assassination attempt,” Walz said.

Authorities said suspect impersonated a police officer, and a “manifesto” was recovered with lawmakers’ names.
The suspect drove a vehicle that looked exactly like an SUV squad equipped with emergency lights, a Taser and badge. There was “no question that if they were in this room you would assume that they are a police officer.”

“There was a list of individuals and the individuals that were targeted were on that list,” said Bureau of Criminal Apprehension Superintendent Drew Evans.

“When we did a search of the vehicle there was a manifesto that identified many lawmakers and other officials, we immediately made alerts to the state, who took action on alerting them and providing security where necessary,” Brooklyn Park Police Chief Mark Bruley added.

Meanwhile, long-planned nationwide political protests
are scheduled for Saturday June 14:

  • Statement from the Minnesota Department of Public Safety
    on June 14:
Out of an abundance of caution, the Minnesota Department of Public Safety is recommending that people do not attend any political rallies today in Minnesota until the suspect is apprehended.

Iran had already pointed out that Israel uses military weapons received from the U.S.A., with the implication that Iran might consider holding the U.S.A. partially/indirectly responsible for Israel bombing Iran.

Now that Iran is retaliating against Israel, and has struck Tel Aviv, Iran is warning other nations not to defend Israel.

Meanwhile, while Israel is bombing Iran, Israel is simultaneously *continuing* to bomb Gaza food supplies and medical charities.

I'm following the nationwide "No Kings" protests today Saturday June 14, 2025

"indivisible.org" is one of the organizers.
They have blusky posts on their feed
(whatever the bluesky equivalent is to "retweets") ...
submitted by protesters in cities all over the USA and a few other countries.

Too many for me to post here but you can follow it on their feed and you don't need a bluesky account.

The pre-organized "No Kings" protests were planned for cities
everywhere *except* WashingtonDC,  due to the Tr*mp military parade.
Around 2,000 cities.

There seem to have been a total of several million participants in all the locations that participated, added together.

New York City's comptroller was arrested -- because he asked within a courthouse if the supposed agents had a warrant to arrest someone. He can be clearly heard on the video asking several times, calmly, for the warrant.

I've checked international news from BBC and other countries.  It seems the G7 was surprised that Tr*mp left early.  The world press is wondering how Tr*ump will lead the Middle East crisis.

(my reaction is that the other countries simply cannot conceive of what an idiot Tr*ump is.  You cannot expect rational behavior from him.  You cannot assume he cares anything about other countries or even his own.  He. does. not. care.)

From the Guardian live blog, evening of June 17
https://www.theguardian.com/world/live/2025/jun/17/israel-iran-conflict-live-updates-tehran-trump-evacuation-middle-east

As the world awaits Donald Trump’s decision on whether the United States will enter the Israel-Iran conflict by lending military support to Israel or push for negotiations between the two countries,

president Trump has posted this update on his Truth Social platform:

"It is my Great Honor to announce that I will be putting up two beautiful Flag Poles on both sides of the White House, North and South Lawns. It is a GIFT from me of something which was always missing from this magnificent place. The digging and placement of the poles will begin at 7:30 A.M. EST, tomorrow morning. Flags will be raised at approximately 11 A.M. EST. These are the most magnificent poles made – They are tall, tapered, rust proof, rope inside the pole, and of the highest quality. Hopefully, they will proudly stand at both sides of the White House for many years to come!"
