Wayne Heffley, remembered to DAYS OF OUR LIVES fans as Vern Scofield, Jack's stepfather and mentor at The Salem Spectator, died of kidney failure on November 19. The actor, who had long been on dialysis, was 81. He was a longtime friend of Matthew Ashford (ex-Jack).

May he rest in peace.

Aww... and he was Brian and Tanner's father too! I think I'm the only Days fan ever who enjoyed Brian/Ginger and Tanner/Molly.

I thought they did a great job incorporating Vern's family into his storyline. And he was a big help in rehabilitating the character of Jack after the rape.

Sending my prayers to his family and friends.

Nice tribute, Jason. Thanks for sharing. The autograph pic was nice too.

Oh, that's sad! I didn't watch when he was a regular, but I remember when he made several appearances a few years ago. Poor guy.

RIP, Wayne. I liked the character of Vern and his relationship with Jack.
