It's the Hilton (yes, as in Paris and co.) estate.

Just web searched for more info. and learned that it was designed by a prominent black architect, Paul Williams.

From Wikipedia:

One notable home he designed was later used for exterior scenes of the Colby mansion on television's "The Colbys" (1060 Brooklawn Dr. Bel Air, Los Angeles, California|Bel Air) This is currently the home of Barron Hilton.

I just assumed it was Aaron Spelling's juggernaut mansion (complete with movie theatre, bowling alley and gift-wrapping room, apparently).

Both Dynasty and The Colbys had stunning exteriors. I will always remember when Alexis and Crystal had that fight in the Carrington fountain/lake feature. Bet that was filmed on somebody's gorgeous Hills estate.

Thanks for the answer! I do remember years ago watching the very first episode of FOX's THE SIMPLE LIFE AND in it Paris Hilton and Nicole Ritchie were given a going away party, and I immediately realized the function was being held on the grounds of the Colby mansion...I never knew the place actually belonged to the Hiltons! I loved this show. The first season was legitimately good and I loved Barbara Stanwyck and Stephanie Beacham was a revelation. I find the two seasons of The Colbys better than most of what we saw on Dynasty around that time.

I think Katherine, Maxwell Caulfield, and PodFallon were the biggest mistakes, although the biggest issue may have just been bad timing, since these were stories people had tired of on Dynasty. It's still amazing that Stephanie Beacham was cast and was so phenomenal right out of the gate.

Just finished season 1, and yeah, Stephanie Beacham was pretty much the best thing about it. Jason I can't stand because he just seems so boring and confused all the time; same with Frankie. Jeff and Fallon are okay, but Maxwell Caulfield as Miles is laughable (not even that body can save him :D).

Also, Connie was a bright spot. Everything else was okay, but nothing special really. I found it hard to care for Monica or Bliss' storylines. I also find Zach Powers very unappealing.

Funny to see this thread bumped as I've been rewatching the excellent Sable Colby Show and Sable VS Connie edits on YouTube off and on for the past two weeks. These two are wonderful together. Can we just take a moment to thank the soap gods for Stephanie Beacham's casting?

After Faye Dunaway and Angie Dickinson passed on the role, they could have gone with any number of the "usual suspects" in Hollywood, but they decided to mine the "exotical" talent of the UK, Australia, and South Africa before deciding on Stephanie. According to an old TV Guide article I have, Sable proved to be the hardest role for them to cast. I just think about how robbed we would have been had she not won the role, she is simply brilliant and she certainly deserves the special billing she gets in season two. Ricardo gets the "special guest star" after her "and" but I guess I can accept that, Fantasy Island and all.

@2:10, I love how she delivers this line all on one breath, turning on a dime mid sentence: "Jason Colby, rely on someone else's strength-that'll be the day-unless there's something you're not telling me Constance..."

    • That's so funny, that's how I listen to Montecito - while walking my dog. I'll have to check out Forever & a Day.
    • I need to listen! Forever & a Day was a fun soapy podcast to have available when I walked the dog.
    • A few years ago, Devon and Nick started a charity organization together, I think it's for housing in the community.
    • I’m hoping to start getting to know Vernon better this month. He’s really only been a bunch of noble and good tropes so far. I don’t want him to be taken down the way Ted has been, but it seems he was a long-running Senator and no matter what party you are, lasting longer than twenty years means you’re looking out for you (and not who you’re supposed to be looking out for) most of all. I want to get to know both Vernon and Anita beyond their Dupree posturing. Clifton Davis can sleepwalk handling the kind of material Christopher Bernau and David Lewis handled and I’d like to see more than just a saint.
    • I thought Emily/Hal was a really interesting pairing. And I think KMH played that version of Emily very well! It might not have been what people wanted from Emily, and the writing got pretty gross at the end, but I thought she embodied that character effectively.
    • Don't know if this exactly fits here, but it is connected: Does this abandoned building look familiar? It is one of those explorer videos - and the outside may look VERY familiar if one watched GH in the '70s and '80s!

    • So, I have been in the hospital all week. I am close to being up to date on my soaps. Now I have to go to the Infusion Ctr daily to get IV antibiotics, for 6 weeks. I am frankly exhausted. A hospital is no place to be when you're sick. Hooked up to machines that go beep beep beep all day & night long. Someone wakes you up every hour on the hour for something, either to stick you with needles or to take your gosh-awful blood pressure for the umpteenth time. So, you don't get any sleep. Now I have a central line, upper right chest. After they "installed" it, I said, I am now Borg. They just stared at me. Apparently scifi is not general knowledge. What happened? I have an infection inside my big toe right foot & it burned the skin on my foot. The burned skin is already better. It was like a bad sunburn. The infection inside the toe is the issue. Oral antibiotics won't even get its attention. So, IV antibiotics plus time.

As Salem bids farewell to John Black on Monday, the "Days" family and fans say a final goodbye to Drake Hogestyn.   From his time as a young man playing baseball in the minor leagues for the New York Yankees to his almost four-decade run as John Black, Drake always did his best. And, while becoming a soap opera icon, he spent almost 40 years at "Days" telling the best stories and taking the younger cast under his wing to make sure they would do their best as well. Thank you, Drake, for the legacy you have left for everyone at "Days." The impact you made on the cast, crew and fans will never be forgotten...and that's a fact.
    • I found an interview with Joseph Breen (Will Jeffries) where he mentions that Reva was put in a coma so Zimmer could go to Hollywood to do a pilot (OMG, if ONLY it had been picked up, LOL) and that Sonni and Josh and Will became a popular with the audience while she was out of commission.  If you want to read the whole thing: https://www.authorsden.com/visit/viewarticle.asp?id=47394 Breen was known for being very candid in interviews, I wish I could find more of them. I seem to recall he made a couple of snarky comments about Zimmer, implying she was not above acting like a diva. Sounded to me like he had a lot of respect for Forbes (who went on to have a very strong and varied career after GL).
