Thanks, Mark! I never go very far... :-)

I think this singing controversy is stirring up some dangerous emotions. I agree they've gone a little overboard with Ana these last couple of weeks, and that it completely surrounds the fact that she's young and a newbie. I don't think race has anything to do with it. I'm with Cat and Mark - I *HATED* Jewel's appearance with a fiery passion, and cringed every time Damian pulled his "Rock On" schtick.

I still watch because I think she's got a beautiful voice, and from what I understand, there is a purpose (I'm staying away from spoilers). And like others have said, it did lead into that beautiful montage. This isn't my most fervent complaint with the show at the moment. It's a minor annoyance, but then again, I find every "I want to be a musician" story mildly annoying. I hated it when Gwen did it on ATWT, I hated it when Danny did it on Y&R, I hated when Sarah/Flash and Riley did it on OLTL, I hate Eli on GH, and I'm hating watching Devon go through it. It's got nothing to do with race. It has to do with finding out your actor can sing on key, and suddenly incorporating it into story, like you're somehow going to grab the "American Idol" demographic.

Dee, I agree, the writing for Ana isn't good.

But I don't agree with Daniel... he might have mentioned a few times that he photographed (that was mostly January when he met with that photographer) and ever since then it was all about Amber. Yet recently, when he met Sabrina, she suddenly recognized his drawing talent. But that was it. Nothing else.

Jewel was a guest star doing a cameo.

BIG difference.

Sure.

PSA's?

And how are skeezy May-December romances, chemistry challenged marriages of desperation or fights about a inane webzine any less filler than singing?

You act like the ONLY thing Neil does is watch Ana sing when it's not.

The writing for Neil is horrible & has been for a long time but Ana's singing is NOT the problem.

Daniel pretty much abandoned Amber to pursue an opportunity in Europe with his Dad.

He was taking photo classes & began working at Restless Style almost right away.

Then he meets Sabrina she recognizes his innate artistic talent & suddenly he's the. greatest. artist. ever.

Yet Devon excels at business or sings with Ana it's met with constant bitching.

Well sorry, I neglected Daniel's tour thing because that was written in only because Graziadei had to film a movie.

And I'm just worried that they'll sing another 30 songs by the end of the year without much of a storyline. I want a storyline for Devon. But he hasn't had any for a long time.

I like the singing when it is organic to the situation not just someone belting out a song for some contrived reason. If it is contrived it bugs me, but when it makes sense to the story it is fine. I thought it made sense yesterday because Devon and Ana were at home working on a song, it was catchy and of course they would try it out on their family.

I was truly moved by Ana's singing to Karen. It was a beutiful song and Nia Peeple's sold it as something that meant much to Karen. When Ana held Karen's hand it felt genuine. It led beautifully into the instrumental montage. I also like the singing at the gala.

It they use the singing in an organic way I will be fine with it.

    • I found it to be a rather odd way to deal with a character departing for parts unknown.

Luckily, EJ and Johnny, and pretty much every other character saved today’s episode.  I didn’t expect Javi to be the one to save Sarah though, and I don’t mind it at all, because if it means that Javi is finally going to get his own identity/character, away from his douchy bf, I’m all for it. Javi’s scenes would’ve been a lot better had it not been for him. EJ and Johnny were the best part of today. Their conversation hit a lot of important beats and I’m so looking forward to seeing them play out. And now that EJ knows that Johnny is going to work for Xander, that opens up another dynamic to their storyline and to the Kiriakis family storylines as well. Tying them all together could be really good. There are so many story possibilities that can come out of this. And I thought Carson Boatman did a pretty good job again too.  I also liked that Johnny was there to comfort Chanel after everything that happened with Sarah. They’re so good together. But I do have mixed feelings about Chanel possibly forgiving Johnny so quickly. Hopefully, the question that she asked him at the end of today leads to more conflict for the two of them.  And yeah, still no changes in Alex’s character lol
    • Awesome, thanks so much for taking the time to grab this episode. I had a quick review of your rip because I was curious why it was 700MB and 30 minutes. The first 10 minutes of the episode is 3169 (opening credits at 5 minutes and again at 15 minutes). I thought we had the full HD version of ep.3170 on the YouTube channel, but it appears they added the wrong episode but labelled it 3170.
    • I guess, according to Mike Manning in the Michael Fairman chat, he was almost Derek

    • That's a name I haven't heard in a minute. Thanks!
    • Well, since I'm still up unexpected past my growing-into-it bedtime. lol.   I finally got to rewatch Monday's. I even rewatched Friday's to take it all in. Now that we got the reveal and hit the climax of the SilkPress Sheila storyline, now we get to watch the aftermath and/or turns that come with its climax. So far, so good. Friday left us with three cliffhangers. And what I found surprising was how I felt about them over a rewatch.    I know some of you all felt a way about the dialogue during Kat vs Eva. I remember liking it more the first time around and it was nice for them to have these scenes to establish more of a frenemy vibe for them going forward. That still held up. But I found myself agreeing with you all about that dialogue. lol. Still, it was nice to have both of their POVs.   Second up was Silk Press Sheila vs the Duprees. And I was happy to get a brief spat with Dani in there. But the rest standouts for me was Anita and Martin. Haters can hate and given the tail end of the episode, I will agree to a fault, but Brandon has impressed and he was on fire on Monday and had great subtle work on Friday. And that subtle work made it all the better. Like I believe I said when I was watching...BC has a much better grip on his character and seems to be realizing what his tics are so has started to be able to know when to turn it up and when to dial it down. And for the most part (emphasis on most), he got that. Meanwhile, TT was giving fierceness, and I was here for every minute of it. Her reading SilkPress. Her being quip about it. Her 'BE STILL.' Ooooo she had a chokehold on me as Anita gave what I was expecting her to SilkPress. WORTH THE WAIT. I also loved Vernon's CHOOSE SILENCE. I wonder though if SilkPress will figure out Martin's condition from her observing Anita and Vernon with him.   And speaking of worth it...Oooo YES Nicole vs Ted was worth totally worth it. Oooooo I knew DD would nail it, and it was all so well done. The fight between the part of Nicole who is a therapist vs Nicole as a woman who wants to express how she feels. And being so angry. And how there would be moments when it would shoot out of her. And how she would restrain herself. But how she felt she should not be restrain. Just the levels of processing and layers. And DD played it all so well. I do wish Maurice gave just a little bit more, but overall, I thought he did a good job even if it was just Ted coming across as a deadbeat and not at all redeemable. And Kat being there for her mother was so beautiful.   Minority, but I love the montage though yes, it did run a little long. Given how the Duprees like to bond (and also as I mentioned from my own very recent family experiences), it did not seem out of place to me.     That said...let's see how the aftermath worked in today's episode. Overall. Cuz RC can be hit or miss.
    • I wonder whose brilliant (

) idea it was to do an almost complete rip-off of the "who killed Tom King"-storyline. That's some quality style writing right there.....
