Members ER Tosh
Yep just checked a few hours ago and they are doing that. Are the DS forums known for being pro-Corrie and anti-Eastenders? ( I have really just started watching both in the last six months so Im new at this).
Members DRW50
They are in the last few years. It may just be a coincidence but right around the time Santer (who loved PR, as Corrie's Phil Collinson does) left Eastenders, and Kirkwood came in, there was almost what seemed like a campaign to bash Eastenders at every turn and praise Corrie to the skies. Some Corrie fans just seemed to rattle off a list of buzzwords and accomplishments, with little discussion of the show itself ("War of the Websters" is the one I always cringed at most, with fans heaping praise on a story that supposedly did so much for Sally Webster - so much that she took up with her daughter's pornographer). Meanwhile, Eastenders was constantly trashed in a way which may have partially been fan discontent but which also felt like something else entirely. That set the tone for the last few years, although it's gotten a little better recently. Is Eastenders good? No, although that has been the case for a number of years. But it's never been the dross DS claims it to be, just as Corrie has never been anything worthwhile in years. Corrie is just better at shell games. I was LOL at comments like, "I am tarring Eastenders fans" for voting for the show. If anyone can vote for the detritus that is Corrie, a show that relies on nothing more than miscarriages, shrieking women, cheap affairs, bad PR stunts, and stories that tell viewers women ask to be raped, then they don't need to talk about tarring fans. Members Y&RWorldTurner
Well, looks like Charlie and Sid presented Pam her Lifetime Achievement award, which is lovely.
Members DRW50
Sid looks great there. I'm glad Pam got this. I would do a whole tribute special just for her, interviewing past actors. But this is still very special, and I'm glad it won't have some of the edge of Wendy Richard's tribute.
Members Y&RWorldTurner
It looks like Lorraine Newman is staying on as the new EP permanently. The cast in interviews seem to assume so...
Members Bright Eyes
Will Lorraine Newman appear in the credits before Sharon's return?
Members Y&RWorldTurner
Kirkwood's name will probably appear in the credits until June/July. Newman is the one likely planning Sharon's return or adjusting it from what Kirkwood might have initially had in mind. I think her name will probably appear in the credits just before Sharon comes back. They seem to be keeping whatever plans they have for Sharon away from the press. Nothing has leaked so far, and we initially expected her back in the summer. I don't think Letitia has started filming yet though, so I wonder if Sharon comes back in late summer (August/September).
Members Y&RWorldTurner
Now June Brown's taking a 6 month break to write her autobiography... http://www.mirror.co.uk/3am/tv-film-news/eastenders-dot-cotton-actress-june-811904 This is worrying and weird that so many actors are taking a break at roughly the same time...
Members DRW50
I guess we see Dot so infrequently anyway. I wish they'd have her film a few episodes to save up before she goes.
Members Y&RWorldTurner
I'm sad that Sharon and Dot won't be able to share scenes when Sharon returns due to June's break. Oh well, at least June isn't leaving for good. Actually, they'll probably be leaning on Sharon a lot again (they were always going to regardless) due to so many being on break this year. I wonder if they'll introduce some of Sharon's biological family. Edited April 30, 2012 by Y&RWorldTurner
Members DRW50
Will Ian be around? It's time to bring back a few original characters to interact with Sharon. I am going to unfurl my BRING BACK SUE OSMAN banner.
Members Y&RWorldTurner
Ian will be around, Adam hasn't said anything about an extended break yet. Someone at the BBC should offer Sue Tully the world to come back and reprise Michelle. I know John Yorke said said they would never recast Michelle, as Sue and the character and too integral to a huge part of the show's history. So basically the people Sharon knows and who will be around when she returns are Ian, Phil, Lucy, Billy, Kat, Mo, Alfie, and Patrick and I guess Mandy might have some overlap with Sharon's reappearance.
Members DRW50
I think it would be worth the risk of recasting Michelle if they actualy bothered to write for her properly and also reestablish the Fowlers, although that seems unlikely.
Members Y&RWorldTurner
Oh dear, now Jo Joyner is taking an extended break... http://www.dailystar...-ve-got-to-Jo-/ This one sounds like more than a break, I wouldn't be surprised if we don't see Tanya again, or at least for a few years... Though, I guess this one makes you happy, Carl. Edited May 1, 2012 by Y&RWorldTurner
Members DRW50
I haven't watched in so long (aside from Pat's death) I don't even have a big opinion on her now. I just hope they can give Max a good story.
