That could be why they recasted, because Davetta was playing the Lily in such a way where we as an audience would never expect her to let them get away with that. But I think if given the chance seh could have played Lily the way they wanted her to.

The hell they do.

The writing for Colleen has been lacking ever since Tammin was cast.

Just about everything about the character has been changed because Tammin can't convey any of it.

Yes she has.

Which is why it is absolutely absurd the way TPTB constantly reference how much Lily is like Dru with CK playing the part.

As Darn previously stated it's most likely TPTB wouldn't have done the porn story with Davetta.

And the EXACT same character knew from jump Carmen was trouble & had NO PROBLEM confronting her nor did the EXACT same character have a problem confronting the bitchy college girls who trashed her Mother at the coffee house.

Now all of the sudden she's BFF with & giving chance after chance to a chick who's NEVER been anything less than rude, obnoxious & openly coveting everything in Lily's life including the boyfriend she's so in love with?

Complete writer's contrivance to fit the actress.

It's clear the writers intended for Lily to be an vehicle for their idea of "diversity" via an "actress" who never has & never will be capable of doing the role justice.

The writing for Colleen was lacking before Adrienne left, she was reduced to Gina's waitress and a back up character to Kevin, Jana and Lily. But character wise she was still the same, the good girl who will stand up for her friends no matter what and who doesn't like to be told by her father what to do.

And yes Lily is compared to Dru as far as her being a model but we're talking about personality here. And then they try to say things like oh Lily is so caring and compassionate like her mother, when every heroine or non villainess on the show is caring and compassionate. Most people with decency are.

CK's Lily has confronted people as well including Carmen who was still on when CK took back over the role as well as Amber who she saw through right from the beginning. But confronting somebody hardly makes her like Dru. Everyone confronts people at some point and anyone whose father Carmen was dating would have confronted her regardless if Dru was their mother or not.

If you want my honest opinion, while Davetta may have been more feisty than CK she still was a long way from Dru. The Dru who grew up on the streets and in the hood. Davetta may have had mouth but she hardly comes off as someone who could have handled herself in the streets. The reason why Dru takes no mess is because she had to fight for what she had, Lily did not. She grew up as a cushy princess. The main difference between CK and Davetta is that CK comes off more as a pampered caucasian girl while Davetta came off more as a pampered black girl.

The writing for Colleen ONLY took a turn when "Korbleen" didn't work as well for viewers as TPTB had hoped.

Before that she & Adrian were on almost EVERY day & it was JT who took the bullet for that relationship.

Lily has been compared to Dru ever since she was born & especially since she was SORASed.

The only reason CK's Lily confronted Carmen was cause she returned in the middle of that story.

And that "confrontation" wasn't even a confrontation to the point where Lily who up until then had been written as a PRIME suspect in Carmen's murder was backburnered completely.

She didn't like Amber in the begininng but she didn't confront Amber until Extreme Catwalk which happened way after Amber had done a lot of damage to her, her friends & her marriage.

Hardly.

Prior to Davetta's Lily the ONLY person Lily confronted other than her Family was Kevin & she only confronted Kevin AFTER he raped her & tried to murder Colleen.

Davetta's Lily was very much like her Mother but not exactly just as Dru was like her Mother (Mamie) but not exactly the same & Davetta's Lily was afforded opportunities her Mother wasn't just as her Mother & Aunt were when they were her age.

Hence the constant issues between them.

But Lily DID grow up with a strong sense of self, a strong degree of cultural pride, a love for family, the ability to think for oneself & an appreciation of the advantages afforded through education.

And once she & Daniel got married she didn't expect her parents to take care of them.

She got a job & was willing to not go to college (and risk upsetting her parents in the process) to pursue something that would fufill her even if she & her husband had to struggle.

The difference between Davetta & Christel is Davetta could elicit empathy & convey warmth & growth.

Christel can't.

Yes which is what I said, Colleen took a back seat before Tammin took over the role.

But again all soap characters confront people. Even in the short amount of time Sabrina and Adam have been on they have already had several confrontations with people.

But she confronted her when she found out what she did.

But Lily had no reason to confront anyone else other than family members or Kevin. (She also confronted Daniel as well). What is she going to do, confront people for no reason?

And those opportunites shaped her into a much different person than Dru.

Most people have those qualities..most good people any way. Most people have a strong cultural, love their family, and those that have education tend to appreciate them and have a strong sense of self. In fact Brad Carlton, Jack Abbott, Victoria..(I could go on)

have all those characteristics. Most normal people have all of those characteristics. They'are not unique to Dru or Lily. Dru shares no unique personality traits with Lily.

No.

You said Colleen was backburnered when Tammin took over the role which was completely not the case.

At all.

Eh.

She KNEW Amber was a bitch THE ENTIRE TIME.

Yet she stood idly by while Amber repeatedly insulted & was rude to her friend & caused a ton of problems in her marriage.

Yes she did.

Eh.

She tried to be tough with him for a second.

That's hardly a "confrontation".

That's not the point.

Davetta's Lily had a spine.

Christel's never has.

No.

They didn't.

My exact words were, "The writing for Collen was lacking before Adrienne left the show," which basically means she was backburned before she left. And yes Brad Carlton has all of those qualities, he definitely has a strong sense of self, a pride for his jewish culture, he's supportive of Colleen and going to college, the same as Dru and Neil are so yes he has the ability to think for himself. And most of the characters share those qualities.

And again everyone has confrontations, that's hardly a unique character trait. And no, Davetta's Lily did not confront Carment until way after she thought Carmen was still after Neil. And I wouldn't call Lily spineless, she's just a poor judge of character. She confronted Chloe when she found out about the kiss, but she 's naive enough to believe that Chloe isn't after Cane, the same way Davetta's Lily was naive enough to believe that Daniel was a good person to marry in the first place. Both Lily's were warned numerous times about how these people were, yet Davetta's Lily still married Daniel, and CK's Lily is still friends with Chloe.

Lily on the other hand has never been written like Dru.

I totally agree. Otherwise we wouldn't be hearing find your inner Dru or you're more like your mother than you think. I suppose DS is the first recast in history to portray her character in a different manner than the original actress. I could never get into her version.

    • Spoke with my contacts at Lifetime. As of now, there is nothing to share in terms of updates.
    • Which is still a form of manipulation. Granted it won't work because Ted isn't interested in Leslie at all no matter how much she tries to make him look like a horrible person. When you consider the situation with Hayley it does make sense why Anita would take that approach.
    • Another good one and great episode to start off the week. Confrontations, character moments, movement, and an awful lot of bubbles on display. lol.    I've found myself liking Sara Bibel breakdowns. And this episode might be why. I sense movement of plot going on. And Jazmen being on script duty has already become a highlight for me. So this episode dealing with more fallout from the SilkPress/Eva reveal was another good one. And even got a solid B plot moving in the Vanessa/Doug/Joey storyline...which I just said yesterday...has been the only one of the B plots...that has real build to it so far.    You are not a real soap pariah until you get dragged and a community treats you as such. So basically another old school soap vibe that Eva is giving me. Watching her trying to find her footing only to be read by just about everyone she has encountered has been great. It makes her so rootable. And she's played by an excellent actress. Cuz that quivering lip at the end with her and Anita...ooooo some of you all seem heated for Anita making poor girl cry even though it's her fault. That's great acting. Not to mention writing.    I also love that the side character got their point of view. I loved Mona moving about town trying to get info to avenge Nicole in a way. And she dragged Eva. She read Silk Press Sheila. And that 'enjoy the burn' was well-said. And did I see a spark with Mona and Randy? Hmmm. I don't mind.

I also didn't mind that Martin/Kat scene. I enjoy their sibling relationship so far. And I feel like the right thing to do to keep them close as they support their mother. It even made sense that Martin would soften to the idea of Eva as part of the family given their brief scene at the start of this storyline. Meanwhile, NO from Kat. lol. And she's already questioning the DNA test...OF COURSE SHE IS. But again...that avail...her and Eva being the SAME age. Twins. I just felt the writers are really foreshadowing that heavy. Meanwhile, the SilkPress saga is far from over.   I love the parade of Ted Visitors. LMAO!!! I thought Dani vs Ted was pretty good. But I about fell out when Anita walked up in there like old school Sonny Corinthos. And I hollered with Anita wiping the floor with Ted with Dani in the background like Jason Morgan. Watch your step, Theodore. Anita was giving Boss Bitca and I was living.    That said...I didn't like Anita making poor Eva cry. But as was said above...the stuff with Hayley is still too fresh on the Duprees' mind. So sadly understandable, Anita set down the law.    Uh oh. Dani saw Vanessa with Joey. Granted they are not the BFFs, but I do hope that that means we are getting a Dani/Vanessa scene. And I loved that we got another step in the B storyline. Doug fighting (and failing) in his addiction. Meanwhile, Vanessa resisted hers. And Joey did not look happy.    And saying the best for last. I LOVE Nicole vs Silk Press Sheila. Ooooo Nicole got under her skin good. And I loved it. I also hollered at Silk Press couldn't even be fake nice for 5 whole minutes to her. DD did soooooooo good. The body language. The looks. The inflections on just the right words. I LOOOVVVE that confrontation and looking forward to more since she clearly verbally cracked SilkPress's face. Meanwhile, I was just as taken aback at Ted showing up at Silk Press Sheila's place. I also thought it was another fantasy. Nope. And then SilkPress put the moves on him and went just a little more cray cray in the coda.    Just such a great episode.

    • Nope still in development. ABC/Disney are having their upfronts today though, so there's a very slight hope we might get an update.
    • Has anyone ever posted January and February 1974? I can't find them in the 'Look Back to 75' thread. Thanks.
    • Did January and February 1974 DSN ever get posted? I can't seem to find it in this thread.
    • I agree. Especially after SilkPress got back to her apartment and started to mock Nicole. Her dislike for Nicole and seeing her as a threat to her getting Teddy Bear is growing worse. So I could see her pulling a kidnapping on Nicole at some point. If anything she was going there to poke the bear and got pressed (pun unintended) when the bear gathered her.   Completely understandable.
