Is OLTL going to surpass Y&R come this week ratings?

Robin Strasser's hotline refered to OLTL scoring #1 in the ratings on Monday and Tuesday -which coincidentally was the wedding of Rex and Adriana. So, let's say the numbers stayed consistently high for the remainder of last week, and Y&R took a significant dip (probably not cause diff. time slots), then maybe OLTL could dethrone Y&R?

I know its a VERY LONG shot, but who knows? With the creative upswing OLTL is having, I could see them surpassing plenty of soaps in the near future.

They were probably #1 in 18-49 for the days (I'd be surprised since Y&R was last .5 ahead of them, maybe #1 among the ABC soaps?). She was definitely talking about 18-49 when she was going on and on about #3.

LOL! Has our dear La Strasser gone senile? OLTL can barely surpass AMC in the households and demos, I don't see how the show can magically surpass DAYS, GH, B&B, and Y&R in either demos or households.

It is possible the show gained in demos amongst the ABC soaps though...

Despite the recent quality of the show, ratings almost never reflect the true quality of any show.

As a life-long Y&R viewer and lover, I nonetheless hope the fantastic OLTL experiences significant ratings gain...up to and including surpassing Y&R in key demos or whatever.

Why?

Because OLTL is a testament to creative renaissance...what happens when you give a HW some berth and room to execute a vision (and there can be NO doubt that Carlivati has a distinctive vision, given how different the show was under Tomlin during the WGA strike). Couple that with inter-generational storytelling, heavier play of vets, returning favorites, and energetic momentum that is premised on soaps' classic formula (secrets and lies, with a little romance thrown in).

I want OLTL to thrive and prosper, because I want the industry to see that classically good soap, with some modern flourishes, can succeed. I would love every 18-39 year old woman in America to tune in. I'd love to see OLTL become the most [NAME NOT ALLOWED] show on daytime or primetime.

Under Gloria Monty, GH transcended daytime and became a cultural phenomenon. For a time, the whole genre experienced an uplift due to that. If any show deserves to enjoy such an uplift now, it is OLTL. My best thoughts and wishes are with this show....it compels me to watch these days, and I'm not even really a OLTL boy.

Your wish is fulfilled. :P

How anyone can think that is beyond my cognitive powers... And I'm bloody rigid bored with the Ron Carlivati OLTL Protection Agency (yes, the people who praise the show already have a name). Sure, the show has improved after Dena's intoxicating influence and it has really good moments, but to say it's the best soap on air... I don't know about that. The problem is that all other shows have really good moments (unfortunately, only moments), but these are overshadowed by the rest of distilled cr*p that hits the airwaves.

    • I like that there are a lot of local performers on this soap and I'm glad they've resisted so far on hiring too many soap performers.   Cady has been awkward on the show thus far and Jon seems to have polarizing as well. I say focus on the local talent and giving those people a job and exposure.. and leave the P & G soap opera performers in the past.
    • Who do you think would be good for the show among the ATWT/GL cast?

about it I think Jan is a fine supporting part for a solid daytime vet (probably someone from the P&G soaps), as opposed to someone from the production location who is clearly cheaper. Which seems to govern some casting. I get the rationale, but I would start going through the ATWT/GL, etc. rolodex myself.
    • I dont mind Jan. She's good in the minor capacity she is used.
    • tbqh I don't care about Jan, I don't care about Ashley and I think Jon Lindstrom as Joey is an acquired taste. Jon is a great actor but certain things are in his zone and then some are not. Some days I find Joey credible and compelling, but the stuff with him hanging around the Golden Corral, grumbling about Doug and bitching at Randy is not amazing. If he had material on par with what MVJ wrote for Ryan/Kevin on GH back in the day it'd be a different story. I do think he has real chemistry with Vanessa, which is in large part due to MVJ clearly molding that character (and hiring an appropriate actor) in the Lucy Coe vein when she reinvented Lucy in the '90s as well. But I am not here to spend 6+ months watching Jon glower a lot (which is what he's doing half the time to carry weak story) and make more vague dire pronouncements while Jen Jacob gets flustered and weepy over "Daddy" or whatever would come of that storyline. Putting them together sounds like a recipe for doom to me. But I may be in the minority on that.
    • I know this will never happen. But... Halle Berry as Dani Dupree(BTG). She would rock this role, it's in her wheelhouse.
    • When I see how bad the Ashley/Derek scenes are, I know there must be a larger purpose and Joey being her father is the thing that makes the most sense.  My take on it is that Ashley knows Joey is her father but doesn't know Joey. Maybe he was there when she was a child or just not around at all but I believe Jan when she says she didn't lie to her daughter about who her father was. Maybe she left him when she discovered his dangerous lifestyle.  I do think they could really jump start the character of Ashley if they hurry and do this. Jan is a great character and her scenes with Ashley have been helpful. This would further integrate Ashley into the canvas and give her something dramatic to do. With her working at the hospital along with Doug, it could lead to complications if she learns Doug is involved with her father. I just need is sooner rather than later because Derek is tanking her character. I need a distraction.
