QUOTE (Chris B @ May 16 2008, 02:47 AM)
I don't like how he talks like he's above soaps when in reality he was fired TWICE for being a horrible actor. What would his excuse be if he were on a good soap?

Meh. That's just Marcus. I don't think I've ever heard him NOT think he's above something, when really he's just a pretty LA party-boy. I guess I'm just used to his garbage now.

I liked the interview until I got to the part at the end when he acted all above everyone in the soap world...total stuck up, snotty, crap that is pretty typical of many LA people (not saying all LA people are like this. But I lived there for four years and encountered rude, snotty, uptight, narcissistic people 90% of the time).

I was not that impressed with him as Jamal on AMC and him leaving did not bother me one bit...and doing a commute from NYC to CA rarely works (unless you are Cameron Mathison doing AMC and DWTS)

It's nothing wrong with being cocky since you have to have that kind of drive to succeed in Hollywood.

I know there a lot of haters on this board and elsewhere who hate Marcus' acting abilities or his attitude about soaps but I have to agree with everything he said.

Daytime sucks right now as a whole and I can't think of how stressful it must be now working on a soap opera with the type of BS written material you are giving everyday and worrying about whether you'll have a job the next day or the next month. For a guy like Patrick, I think that he is the type actor who gets bored really quickly and need material that is going to let him played more than a one-note personality.

Of course, traveling back and front LA to NY can also add stress on an actor's performance and as an actor a whole.

As far as Marcus' comment about soap not his passion and he would prefer being known as a film star than a tv actor, I don't see nothing wrong with that statement. Commonly, the goal for many actors is to become a primetime or movie star than a soap star. I could go into my reason for that but I just stop right there.

In the end, I feel that Marcus opinion is nothing for us to get mad about since I blame the entertainment and daytime industries for giving that bad stigma to soaps as "a stepping grounds for bigger and better things" and for not changing that mindset.

I agree. Soaps are not his passion and he doesn't want to act in another one. That's his right. This is his career and he has every right to pursue whichever genre in which he wants to perform. I don't see anything in that interview that makes him think he's superior to soaps. You can not like a certain style of acting without thinking you're superior. There are some people who hate comedies, but love dramas. There are some who love mysteries and despise romantic love stories. It's all about what drives an actor and feeds them creatively. Soaps aren't that for Patrick. There are probably certain behind the scenes aspects of the process that he doesn't enjoy as well. Lack of rehearsal time, for one, could be something he doesn't enjoy. He already said he doesn't like how staged and blocked out soaps are. So there are plenty of things he could not enjoy about the process. So what did he do? He got out.

I mistakenly read a majority of the comments first before I read the interview and just assumed he was going to just outright dog soaps. But he didn't. He just said he doesn't want to be on another one. I think people are taking it as a personal insult when it shouldn't be.

Great interview! I always wondered what went down with him and AMC.

His acting left alot to be desired, but nothing he had to say about AMC at the time is untrue.

Love that he singled out the amazing Tonya Pinkins.

I enjoyed this interview. He may just be too overtly sexual for daytime...all those nude stripping videos he mentions...because they are still trying to appeal to a certain conservative housewife. I like that he is unapologetic for that.
