With the news yesterday of DOOL showing their usual professionalism and firing Joe Mascola over the phone, the question is......

Since he's not getting the send-off he or his character deserves, how would you write out The Phoenix?

Oh goodness, I'm actually writing a fic that includes a part about Stefano's demise. But I'm not saying anything because the other characters involved are not well loved on this board and I'd be bashed from here to kingdom come for mentioning the characters  . All this I will say is that a member of his family takes him out, but not without a huge power struggle beforehand and Stefano definitely leaving his mark on Salem. It's a fitting farewell for an awesome character. I love Stefano DiMera but it's time for him to kick the bucket, at least in my story. B)

I just want to add that I'm sad that Joe was let go from the show. I've loved his work and I wish he had been given a proper farewell.

Honestly, i'm kind of ready to be done with Stefano for good..His last return pretty much flopped, minus a few good scenes with Santo's ghost and the riveting stuff with Marlena at the end of last year..I'm just sick of Stefano being behind every bad thing that has happened in Salem..Did Stefano really need to be behind Steve's "death" and disappearance, when we all knew that Lawrence was the real culprit...

But that being said, i do want one final showdown between Stefano and his new-found brother John...A huge power struggle, that would rock Salem...We didn't even get to see Stefano's reaction to finding out that John was his half brother....And i want to see Stefano's reaction to John taking over his empire...The potential is still there, so i hope that does happen eventually..So therefore i would like to see Joe back again, but for a short stint showcasing this power struggle..Then i think its time to rest the character of Stefano permanently..

I liked the ending Joe got the last time he left DAYS when he was in a convertible wearing a Hawaiian shirt and he looked at Shawn and Belle and simply said 'Ciao'...

Stefano is the kind of character that never really dies, in the same vein as Sally Spectra on B&B. On screen or off screen, those kinds of characters are larger than life and forever.

OK, I apologize for the length. BUT I spent a 45 minutes writing it, and it just kinda grew as I typed. I didn't mean for it to be so long. Judge for yourself, but I think this idea is better than anything we'll see in the coming months.

Stefano would come out of his coma mad as hell at his children, with the exception of Lexie. He would be awoken when Lexie finally grows a brain while looking at his charts and realizes he was drugged. When Lexie asks Stefano who drugged him, he states "all in good time..". He also demands that Lexie not say a word about him being out of his coma. He pays off the head of the hospital where he has been cared for to keep quite, and starts to investigate what is going on in Salem.

He finds out the Vitalis are close to buying out the Dimera empire and John is fighting to keep control. EJ is preoccupied with Sami, and Tony and Anna are happily not giving a rip about the Dimera name. Stefano conjures up a plan to get back whats his, while dealing with his hated brother. He has a hit put out on Vitali, and his car explodes in a parking lot after a huge fight with John. Stefano frames John by putting traces of reson from the Bomb in the garage of the Dimera mansion. John is arrested and charged with first-degree murder. When Lexie realizes Stefano is behind this, she immediately heads to the police station to tell Abe. While driving to the station, she gets stuck in traffic. At that point, one of Stefano's goons chloroforms her. She wakes up in the secret room below the dimera compund with a tape of her a Dr. Jonas on the TV showing a kinky sexcapade. After a few seconds, Stefano comes up on the screen and tells her he's never hurt her physically, but he'd give the DVD to Abe, and that Abe wouldn't get a chance to exact revenge on Dr. Jonas. (this affair would have been started 2 months ago, and would be love/hate...disgust/lust..) The door would open and Lexie would be free to leave. On her way out, Marlena would catch her, but Lexie would say she's looking for documents left by her father. Marlena gets suspicious.

John is not allowed bail, and Marlena insist that they go and check on Stefano. John doesn't have his memory back yet, and most people, even Bo and Steve think that it's possible that John did this. Marlena still thinks it's Stefano. Bo, Hope, Marlena and Lexie go to the hospital where Stefano is at to check on him. Stefano has a wax likeness that blinks every few seconds in a closed off room with a window. The Cheif of Staff at the hospital tells the group that only Lexie can go in and check on him since she was the admitting physician. Marlena contest this, but the rest of the group seems satisfied. She checks him, and comes out with a vitals chart. Lexie says his condition is unchanged. Bo and Steve tell Roman and Abe, and all four say there is no way Stefano could have done this if he is still comatose.

The trial starts and planted evidence mounts. Vicor heard John say he'd take Vitali out. Lexie confides in Jonas, and he feels heavy about it. Stefano finds out Jonas knows and blast Lexie. Jonas gets drunk at a anniversery party for Mickey and Maggie at Chez Rouge. He nearly tells everyone about everything. Lexie pulls him aside, and Julie overhears enough to know that there is a secret. The next day the Jury deliberates on Johns case. Jonas gets overwhelmed with guilt and leaves a Horton foundation meeting at the hospital abruptly saying he's got to tell the truth under his breath. Victor, Mickey, Julie, Mickey, and EJ all hear this and wonder whats up. EJ calls Sami and tells her about his abrupt exit. In the hospital parking garage, Stefano has one of his friends abduct Jonas. When he wakes up, Stefano is there, with classical music playing in the background. He lectures him and then says he's free to go say what he likes. When he leaves the front door, he's out in the woods far from Salem. He's gunned down before he can reach the road for help.

John is found guilty and sentenced to life in prison without parole. Ava spits on him as he leaves. At his physical exam, the doctor (on the dimera payroll) gives John a shot and knocks him unconcious. He then gives John his memory back. When Marlena comes to visit the next day John tells her he remembers. It's really emotional and touching. They are allowed to be in the same room, supervised, thanks to some string pulling by Roman and Abe. They both know Stefano is behind this. Marlena leaves there and confronts Lexie, ask her where Jonas is, and where her father is at. Lexie really doesn't know where Jonas is, but admits she thinks his disappearance is strange. Marlena leaves enraged knowing she knows something, and goes back to her apartment. She is then abducted. When she goes missing, so does the wax dummy. At the Brady Pub, a brick goes through the window and a phoenix ring is tied with gold twine to the brick. Everyone knows that Stefano is alive, and Marlena is with him.

John is sent a letter in jail with details of where Marlena is at. He also allows Roman to find evidence that John is innocent, allowing John to go after Marlena for the final showdown. John, Bo, Hope, Steve, Kayla, Tony, Anna, Sami, EJ, Lexie and Abe; all sit down and look at the map John recieved. It's the island that Roman and Stefano had their showdown at during the prism storyline. Stefano then sends a video message to the police station. It shows Marlena in a plush bedroom, locked safely away on the island. He reminds Roman of the magnificent view, and encourages them to come for a visit very soon, or they'll miss the party.

When they arrive, Kristen and Andre greet them and welcome the crew to paradise. John is floored to see her. She ensures him that Marlena has enough to eat, and says they've enjoyed catching up. We've known she's with them for the last two weeks. The Marlena/Kristen reunion was awesome. It was be catty and laced with rage and humor. Kristen tells John that Stefano would not let her hurt Marlena, no matter how much she begged.

10 gunned men search the crew for weapons, and lead them to seperate guest houses. When they wake up in the morning, Anna discovers Tony missing, and Bo discovers Hope missing. Stefano and Tony have a showdown in a dungon. Tony is chained up in a dark cell. Hope wakes up to Marlena stroking her hair. Marlena finally tells hope about putting Stefano in a coma. They both know revenge is on Stefano's mind. Hope then recieves a letter with their breakfast. The letter has a picture of Megan, and Stefano lets her know that even though it's been twenty-five years, he has not forgot about Megans death, and she is not through paying for it yet.

Bo and Anna are going crazy as the group meets up to discuss the missing people. Kristin then pops up with an invitation for the crew. There will be a gala tonight in the main mansion, where everyone will be reunited. John encourages the group to follow the rules for now, and be patient.

They arrive at the party and realize Roman's missing. Tony hears someone scratching on the other side of his cell. The camera pans and shows the date November 10th, 1984. There are marks then after that date that seem to go on for an eternity.

Stefano makes his entrance and greets his guest. He says he has so much to tell them. He then brings in Marlena escorted by by two goons. He has her held beside them, and then Roman is brought in. Stefano says he's goning to finish up now what he should have done on this very island decades ago. He pulls a gun and shoots Roman. The place goes hysterical and a fight ensues. The crew overpowers Stefano's men. EJ gets shot in the crossfire, as does Lexie. Lexie, thinking she's dying, confesses all to Abe. He's so angry he leaves her there. The group then goes on a search for Tony and Hope. Lexie is taken away from the ballroom by the goons to get medical treatment. Stefano retreats to a confrence room with numerous monitors, where he is joined by Andre and Kristin. He says now the fun begins...

OK, let me shorten this......After numerous booby traps and close calls with death, Bo rescues hope from a room where the walls are closing in on her by shoving a steele rod in the walls a throwing her a rope that allows her to climb out. Sami sits and cries over Roman as Marlena, John, and Steve all fail to save him. Kayla runs away in grief and opens a door that causes an explosion. She is blinded by it and can't see. Steve pulls her from the rubble as John, Marlena, Abe and Tony go on a search for Tony. They finally find him, and he tells him someone is in the room beside him. They start breaking down a door thats causing a cave in. EJ and Sami find Stefano and have a showdown. As they are fighting, a goon radio's Stefano and say they've almost found his most important guest. He leaves in an angered rush and Kristin and Sami fight. Kristin leaves the room and the door shuts. EJ and Sami argue about the Dimeras as EJ feels torn. When they try to leave and find the others, they realize they can't get out.

The crew breaking down the door find Roman (Wayne N). He's been there all this time. Marlena is shocked, and doesn't know what to believe, till she sees the marks on the wall. She embraces Roman as Stefano walks in. John has it out with him, as the roof starts to finally collapse. They all make it out just in time, and escape to the outside via a tunnel. John sees Stefano running away and goes after him, as The rest of the group try to make sense of all this. Sami and EJ are trapped in the house as it caves and are buried in the rubble. Kristin and Andre look from afar as the house collapses and she says "Told ya Andre. Father said he'd destroy the house befrore he lets Roman escape.

Roman sees John chase Stefano and follows them as Marlena screams 'just let the monster go and get the hell off this island." Finally, all three have a showdown on top of the cliff where all the madness started years ago. This time, after a terrible fight and some really cutting dialouge, it's Stefano who falls to his death.

EJ and Sami are rescued, and the group, injured and hurt return to Salem, minus Lexie and faux Roman. When they get back they have to deal with the fact that Roman is alive, and still very determined to get his old life back. Kayla is blind and has to adjust to her new lifestyle. Sami hates EJ because of his sadistic family. Abe feels guilty about leaving Lexie for dead, and serches for her. They also have to deal with Kristen and Andre, who just won't let the rivalry die. Kristin is also hell bent at excating revenge on Marlena for drugging her father, and taking John.

Sorry it's so long.....But this is my vision for a good Stefano send off.

i KNOW you all are going to hate this but...

the way he is. After all he has done, for Marlena to be the one to put him in this state he is in. She took everything away from him. He cant walk, talk, or anything - but he is aware of whats going on. She now lives in his house, married to his brother. She won, and did it in an amazing way. This is so m uch better than *another* murder.

    • Concluding 1976... Raymond Schafer arrives in Springfield and begins an extensive probe into Malcolm’s death, puzzling Ed, who wonders why most of Schafer’s question sessions keep turning back to Rita’s involvement with Malcolm. Ed assures the man that Rita’s only connection with Malcolm was as his nurse; he is unaware that Schafer knows a great deal more about Rita than he does. Just to protect Rita, Ed has Mike check on Schafer’s credentials, and learns that he’s a  well-respected criminal attorney. The waitress at the restaurant where Malcolm suffered his stroke tells Schafer that the woman who was with him reacted very professionally to the sudden emergency, as if she were a nurse. Realizing that her little sister has fallen hard for Tim, Rita warns him that she’s very vulnerable and innocent, but Tim tells Rita her advice isn’t necessary. But Tim then receives a plum job offer to be chief neurological resident at a prestigious Philadelphia hospital and can’t pass up the opportunity. Evie is crushed by the news and spends the next several days at home crying. Joe Werner, fully recovered, has accepted a post as a medical aide in a destitute village in India and leaves alone, with Sarah to follow him later. Justin asks Sarah to consider a partnership with him in private practice, but she explains that she thrives on the hospital atmosphere. When a call comes from India that Joe has had another massive attack, Sarah leaves on the next available flight and arrives only moments before he dies. The painful news is relayed back to Cedars at once. Sara returns from India a heartbroken woman, but the day-to-day involvement of raising T.J. and of her career seem to be her salvation. Justin shows a surprisingly compassionate and understanding side to Sara, but, ironically, Justin’s ex-wife, Jackie, arrives in Springfield with her diabetic father, who is suffering from a heart attack. In the process of consulting with Justin on her father’s condition, Jackie comes face to face with Sara for the first time since their college days. Evie’s heartbreak at Tim’s departure turns to fury and hatred when she inadvertently discovers a letter which Tim wrote to Rita just after he left. In it he concedes that Rita was right about Evie’s vulnerability where he was concerned but reminds Rita that he badly hurt her in the same way she feared Evie would suffer. Evie is now sure that Rita somehow forced Tim to leave town and is livid at the idea that Tim was Rita’s lover. She insists she’s cutting off her relationship with Rita and will pay her back for any help she’s received in the past. Ben and Hope’s wedding plans are off, as Ben, while still insisting he’s innocent, won’t explain why the robbery evidence points to him. Hope feels his unwillingness to tell her the truth makes marriage to him impossible, but confides to Ann that she is miserable without him. Ben has echoed these sentiments to Mike but won’t confide in him, either as Hope’s father or as an attorney.   Holly is trying very hard to build a life without Ed, but since she sees him virtually every day at work, she’s unable to put him out of her mind. She accepts a date with a member of the hospital administration staff but is unable to avoid making comparisons between Ed and this young man and winds up alone, sadly holding Ed’s picture and recalling how much she loves him. Believing that the hospital board’s conclusions on Grainger’s death have settled the question once and for all, Rita has regained her self-confidence, and her romance with Ed is growing daily. They admit their love for each other, and Ed confides that he intentionally  held back with Rita for fear of making another mistake. Rita then tells Ed she has never married because for her marriage must be forever. Rita’s mother realizes that Rita is truly in love when she confides in her that she doesn’t understand why she’s been so lucky in having him love her and how she wants to be the very best person she can be for him. Ed proposes marriage to Rita and gives her time to think about it before answering. Rita painfully realizes that her past could, if it rose again against her, make a life with Ed a lost dream. But Raymond Shaefer has been quietly but efficiently carrying on his investigation and has learned that Grainger argued with Rita at her apartment. He presents the evidence he’s compiled to District Attorney Eric Van Gelder, who decides the case warrants further investigation. Rita goes to Ed’s office to tell him she loves him but can’t marry him, that she doesn’t deserve him and “can’t do it to him.” As she turns from a confused Ed to leave, she finds the district attorney and a police officer outside Ed’s door, waiting to arrest her. Ed, insisting that a serious mistake has been made, calls Mike to help her as Rita, shocked and humiliated, is taken under arrest through the hallways of the hospital in which she works. Mike manages Rita’s release on bail only after she has had to submit to the degrading booking procedure. Mike sees her alone at her apartment, explaining he can help her only if she tells him the whole truth. Rita equivocates until Mike mentions Texas, indicating to Rita that he knows at least some of the story. Van Gelder has, in fact, let Mike see the bulk of evidence in the case against Rita, to convince him her arrest wasn’t a capricious whim. Rita explains to Mike that Malcolm believed she intentionally vilified him to his father, to do him out of his rightful inheritance, and then wanted his father dead to collect her money. Mike expresses his appreciation of Rita’s honesty, promising to help her. But Rita’s tormented dreams confirm that she hasn’t yet told all the truth, and after Peggy visits, expressing firm support, Rita tells Roger she has to reveal his part in the story. Roger painfully tells Rita about his being Christina’s father to show her that if Ed knew, it would end Rita’s chances with him forever. Rita, who was ready to tell Ed the whole story, now realizes how risky that would be. Adding to Rita’s pain is her forced leave of absence from the hospital until she’s cleared and the embarrassment of seeing her name in the headlines.

    • Yes, but the stories are all pretty awful Seeing Victor rehashing his hatred of the Abbotts  when he married one of them and has a daughter that is half Abbott as well as walking around with Traci's daughter's heart keeping him alive makes him look worse than he already is. And I remember he and Jack chatting amicably in the past few years. Victor interfering in Kyle/Claire is just repeat of Billy/Victoria. Sharon, Nick,Phyllis etc are around but again the stories are lacking.
    • I think Kevin's 1996 Emmy was fair enough. He barely appeared for his second. I don't think anyone else on the list is that deserving but I might have gone with Moore as he did try with the whole Keesha AIDS story. @alwaysAMC Thanks to slick jones' cast list I was able to see that Nikki Rene played Tina. Not much on her, as you mentioned. Tap and a few Broadway listings (it doesn't help that a younger actress with a similar name is in a lot of roles). • Thank you. That does ring a bell. I remember Theresa and Julian's drunk, giggly fake wedding (with Julian asking "Whassup?" to the minister). Was Bruce tricking the pair as a prank, or did somebody put him up to it? I especially liked Katherine recalling how dashing young Alistair was when he'd pick up Rachel for dates, and how she wished she could be her sister, then feeling guilty once Rachel had her boating accident ...
    • And Kevin Mambo beat Shemar Moore for those two Emmys. I chalk up the wins to the voters not wanting Jonathan Jackson to eventually end up with a five peat (he won 1995, 1998, 1999). These were the 1996 and 1997 Younger Actor races. 1996: Nathan Fillion, Jonathan Jackson, Kevin Mambo (winner), Shemar Moore, Joshua Morrow 1997: Steve Burton, Jonathan Jackson, Kevin Mambo (winner), Shemar Moore, Joshua Morrow
