April 17, 200817 yr Member SoapNet.com is about to undergo a serious rebranding. Take a look at the site. http://soapnet.go.com/index.html and watch the horrible video that details all the horror. That son of a bitch Brian Frons strikes again!
April 17, 200817 yr Member Oh, Jesus. If I wanted celebrity news (which I am totally addicted to), I would watch E! Television or check out TMZ.

That son of a bitch Brian Frons strikes again! As long as I still get Y&R every damn weekday at 7:00 p.m. and the OLTL marathons on my lazy Sunday afternoons, they can show all the shallow waste-of-space entertainment crap they want. I'm just wondering when this fascination with celebrity and fame will disappear like Ghost John on Y&R Wednesday? Were we ever this obsessed with gossip in our American history?

When she says she is watching the news she is referring to E! News. But on the topic, it seems like Soapnet is trying to get the younger crowd. It started with One Tree Hill and now it continues with this junk. The last thing we need is more celeb news.
April 17, 200817 yr Member Celebrity news belongs on Entertainment Tonight, Inside Edition, Access Hollyweird, Celebrity Justice, E Entertainment...but not Soapnet
April 18, 200817 yr Member I wouldn't be quick to point the finger at Frons. This was probably a corporate (i.e. Disney) decision to boost $$$. SoapNet, as we can tell, isn't doing as hot as other cable networks are.
April 18, 200817 yr Member This was probably a corporate (i.e. Disney) decision to boost $$$. I hope it would not come from Bob Iger because he seems to be doing good so far as CEO

Were we ever this obsessed with gossip in our American history? I think the obsession with gossip has been there as long as there have been "stars." What's changed is the technology...the increased methods of communicating it and consuming it. If things like television, cable and the internet had been invented a hundred years ago, the people then would have been inundated (beyond just print media and movie reels) with stories about Valentino, Chaplin, etc.
