April 3, 200817 yr Author Administrator How does one go from being fired to being the new HW? And people thought he was personally suing Corday? Wow.....people can be really stupid sometimes. LOL
April 3, 200817 yr Member at least he understands he prob wont be writing for soaps - much less HW - after his blogs.
May 17, 200817 yr Member Here's an excerpt from the beginning of Tom Casiello's new blog entry. http://blog.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseacti...logID=395535867 He goes on to make some good points about some things regarding soaps. It's a good read. I find it so entertaining that in spite of trying to cover all my bases, see things from every angle, there's always a response to one of my blogs that I really didn't prepare for, or didn't see coming. A few months ago, I posted an entry about how excited I was for a brand-new project I was working on. How I was on the brink-of-obsessed with it. Soon enough, people were speculating that I was writing a DOOL long story. (Nope.) Then I found myself writing about saving Days from cancellation, and word gets out about the WGA arbitration - and suddenly I'm secretly suing Days of Our Lives out of one side of my mouth, and praising it out of the other. (Nope again.) THEN I decide "You know what, Tom? You're too negative. It's a little boring. What do you LIKE about daytime right now?" And I write a blog about One Life to Live and how much I'm enjoying it. Guess what? Within a couple days, it's assumed that was me pitching myself to get a job back in my old stomping grounds. (Yeah, so, that's what we have agents for, folks. So we don't beg for a job over a MYSPACE BLOG.)

May 18, 200817 yr Member Here's an excerpt from the beginning of Tom Casiello's new blog entry. http://blog.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseacti...logID=395535867 He goes on to make some good points about some things regarding soaps. It's a good read. While I appreicate much of what Tom expresses, he misses the point about newly minted headwriters like Maria Arena Bell. He chides the viewers for not having patience with Bell, who are calling for her ouster after only six months. But darn it all, the viewers have a point. They shouldn't be asked to "have patience" while Bell, who's totally untested as a headwriter, who's been out of daytime for over twenty years, learns her craft (or doesn't learn it) on the job. The average viewer, the ones who don't follow soap opera boards and the behind the scenes drama, tune in each day to be entertained. They want a good story, with identifiable and relatable characters. They want to be moved emotionally, to laugh and cry and feel passionate about what they're watching. If Bell can't give them that, then they have every right to grumble. As for Tom's comment about Bridget Dobson saying it takes two years to clean up the mess from a previous headwriter, that's just bunk. Claire Labine came to GH and turned it around almost immediately. How? By connecting emotionally and dimensionally with the characters that were already on the canvas. She made the audience feel for and with the characters. But Claire's a smart, savvy STORYTELLER, which so many of the current headwriters or not. Perhaps the jury should still be out on Bell, but as a passionate soap viewer, I don't think I should have to nod off in front of my set on a daily basis while she gets her act together (or doesn't). The posters on this board have devoted an entire thread to fixing Y&R. If devoted fans can see the problems, why can't the network and TPTB? Again, I appreciate Tom's points, but putting on rose colored glasses and continuing to watch a boring, unappealing show like Y&R while Arena, who's getting paid millions, can't do what needs to be done to salvage Y&R? Sorry, folks, show business is a business first and foremost. When ratings continue to nosedive, I say cut your losses and get a headwriter with talent, experience and history with the show, not a simple a family connection.

I completely agree with everything you've said. You rock, man.

June 3, 200817 yr Author Administrator Tom's latest blog has some interesting insights about his brief time at Y&R: http://blog.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseacti...CDD341104596551 Less than 24 hours to write an episode? Yikes!
June 3, 200817 yr Member If 2006 eppys were written in 24 hours, 2008's must be written in half an hour. And it seriously is not cool when the little people get shafted first. Everyone knows nothing runs smoothly when the leader has ish for brains.
