I don't even know if Hogan and JER can balance each other out....

Both have a tendency to burn out very fast, don't use a majority of castmembers, and write very weak female characters.

JER can be good if balanced out. I mean he had Curlee, Demorest, and Broderick at GL. The fabulous Springfield blackout in 92 was his idea, and that was written wonderfully and in traditional soap opera mode. The thing is, I don't think either Sheffer and Reilly's forte is "traditional," something a show like AMC needs.

I forgot to add that Maria Arena is a different case - her family owns (partly) the show and I'm not yet sure whether she is a temporary head writer or if she will stay for the long-term. However, she can choose and when she exits, I believe it will be her decision. She won't get fired.

Hogan is not so lucky. I believe he will never be head writer again. If I remember well, he said he liked writing breakdowns, so probably that's the most he can get. On the other hand, Toups said that soap operas are eliminating the position. Do the maths.

Reilly's pretty good when he's starting at a new soap.

First time at GL - awesome (from what I hear)

First time at DAYS - best ever!

First couple of years of PSNS - pretty damn good

Now that he's had months off from writing PSNS and time to rest (for the first time in 17 years), I've love to see what he can do at a soap he's never written for. :)
