I have always wondered what it was that made him so racist. I've never broached the subject with him as an adult, but perhaps it is because of the era in which he grew up. I have noticed that he has mellowed a bit with old age.

Cheney deserves the scrutiny, IMHO. His backdoor deals are something that need to be investigated with a fine tooth comb. Especially regarding the "Energy Policy" he crafted at the beginning of this administration.

This is probably the post of yours to which I meant to reply. I don't use the word community to refer to people unless I'm actually talking about a real community. I think when you get to the point where you consider that his running for the presidency might just be insprational to more than just some black people, it will be an excellent thing.

I was joking because Bush is a part of the government which is EOE with or without him.

Pointing Condoleeza Rice out as an example of diversity or as a reason to give Bush credit is just funny to me. She's one person.

Do you think that I believe hiring a few black peple is reaching equality? Or do you think I might think that not having this conversation at all would be more of a measure of equality since we would have arrived at a point where you would not feel the need to point to one person as an example of how the Republican party can be diverse?

Equality won't be achieved until we get to a point and time where every white person in a position of power or authority stops seeing people of other races as inferior. That's how simple it is.

Well, in my post, I was discussing specifically how some black people might perceive a Barack Obama presidency, thus the reference to the black community. I'm absolutely sure there are other groups of people who may be inspired by what he is accomplishing, just as I see lots of men inspired by the barriers women like Geraldine Ferraro, Hillary Clinton, and Sarah Palin have and continue to break through.

This is one of the biggest non-stories I have seen today..

Palin, saying she did not authorize the expenses for the travel, cited that trip as a primary example of the insubordination that led to Monegan's firing.

However, Palin's chief of staff did authorize the travel to Washington.

It's true, Palin didn't authorize the trip... Perhaps it is Palin's Chief of Staff who should be taken to task for overstepping his bounds and going around his boss... and, besides, it certainly sounds like NOBODY authorized Monegan's lobbying of Congress. Overstepping bounds, working around established policy... it's like Obama going to Iraq and insiting the Iraqi government delay the troop pullout until AFTER the election! Oh, wait... that's a separate scandal...

Monegan told ABC that the travel authorization was explicitly to pursue funding for the anti-sexual-violence program, though the document does not state that as a reason for the trip.

"He was not authorized to lobby Congress," Griffin said.

There is nothing here... it's partisan political BS. But typical election year garbage... like Clinton's first Bimbo Eruption or tabloit reports of Gary Hart's Love Boat...

OK, sound the alarm. That one is no fair Brian. :lol: There is a tremendous difference in expectations for Condi and Roman. Condi is after all a PUBLIC official and Roman is a PRIVATE citizen.

Now, I gave money to the Red Cross and I also exercised my right and responsibility as a citizen to write my Congressman and complain about the abysmal federal response. Therefore, I guess I can criticize Condi. That one just doesn't work.

We are going to have to disagree on that one too. Palin said she fired Monegan in part for insubordination because he made an unauthorized trip to lobby Washington. Now, it the trip was authorized, then it wasn't unauthorized. Obviously Palin had designated authority to her chief of staff. If he has the authority and then she fires people and says the trip is unauthorized, then she ain't much of manager (that would work against the arguments about her executive experience).

Now Monegan says the trip was to lobby and the COS knew it was for lobbying. If the COS did not know it was for lobbying, and if then what did the COS think it was for? I guess we can't know that because the COS is dodging the subpoena. That, of course, raises questions about why he is dodging the questions and the subpoena.

I think Palin is an idiot for handling this the way she is. There is no way to prove whether she fired him because of the brother-in-law or not. Dealing with this in one day and getting it behind her is far better than the daily trickle of information that counters her explanation.

Joe Biden saying "Delaware will kick Ohio State's ass!" Which was being reported yesterday.

For someone who seems to can't tell the truth at all, she is making this harder on herself.

I believe it to be reaching a certain degree of equality. I believe it to be an important step in the right direction.

It will be hard to reach that point (not needing to have a conversation at all about equal opportunity) when the important step of hiring "one person" is poo-pooed as not being enough. We cant go from prevalent discrimination to a total eradication in the blink of an eye. There has to be steps toward progress. It's disturbing to me that someone tries to adhere to civil rights by hiring a minority, then are accused of not doing enough. It seems that one that is trying to make things better might be discouraged when their efforts are minimalized. This fastidious selectiveness could possibly defeat and undermine the entire purpose in the pursuit of equality.

Understandable. But you have to praise efforts along the way to this goal.

I believe it to be a brilliant method to handle the situation. If this is the worst thing that can be dug up from her past, then she is home free. Palin letting this situation linger on only allows for the Democrats and leftist media to add to their appearance of desperation. They attack any new bit of information out of troopergate like a pack of wild dogs on a dead carcus. The more nuances from this situation that are covered, on a daily basis by the media, will only lead to the public losing interest..

The real meat of the matter is whether or not she abused power...as you said, Jess, this cannot be proven from any evidence that has been provided. I've been wondering all along as to when the Dems will just give up...

It was stated in the article that trips to Washington to meet with state representatives on issues was routine. Of course Monegan would say it was to lobby and that everyone knew that was the purpose of the trip... Does it really stretch the imagination to think that this guy MIGHT be lying? Honestly...

What is so ridiculous about all of this is that Palin and company knew this was going to happen... they knew the story would be pumped in the media... That tells me they know nothing will come of it. Why push forth as VP nominee if you KNOW you've done something, and in recent history, that could blow up right before the election or, worse, just months into your new term.

Come on... We've seen this sort of thing play out before -- and just recently in the Bush White House. Nothing has come of that nonsense... nothing will come from this, either. It serves only as great drama, giving partisans something to blow up on message boards like this.

I expect nothing of Condi, to be honest. I wasn't terribly interested at the time in what she was or wasn't doing, particularly as it relates to her personal reactions to Hurricane Katrina. As for my expectations of Roman? I have none there, either. People are people... public or private... I have up expectations a long time ago.

I suppose I had expectations that Mayor Ray Nagin and former Governor Kathleen Blanco could have been more competetent, but those hopes were shattered when they did their best to avoid repercussions for their failures while passing the buck on to others... But that's another post for another time.

And as far as your contribution, Jess... the amount doesn't matter... the fact that you did makes a world of difference!
