All: How would a writers strike affect daytime?

If the Writers Guild of America strike last longer than 100 days, Frons will be tempted to reduce AMC to 30 minutes, and possibly OLTL. Disney doesn't have it in them to cancel any of the 3 shows outright.

As for GL & ATWT, neither of them will survive a long strike. GL lost its core audience in 2004, it's ratings so far this year are terrible, and PGP seems to really want out of the business. ATWT has been in the gutter for more than a year now, and it don't see PGP forking over at least $52 million to keep the sagging ATWT afloat. This might also cause CBS to panic and increase B&B to an hour. I do not know if CBS is willing to give their affiliates another two hours when GL & ATWT are cancelled.

With DOOL being the sole show on NBC Daytime, it definately won't survive a long strike. Zukcer, who was promoted yet again this year, stated that it is highly unlikely that DOOL will air past its 2009 renewal date on NBC (ie it will be cancelled). Will another net pick it up? Syndication?

What do I get from this? Daytime is dying.

(mental note to myself... breath...)

okay. so im not trying to start a argument or fight or bash anyone or anything but...

why do you in every single post you make say daytime is dying. guess what? we got it. why must you turn everything into a debate about daytime? why cant you just discuss daytime soaps? if you want to outright bash them go to DTS: Love/hate and create a thread to bash them. but please dont do thyis in every thread, as sooner than later no one is even going to discuss anything with you. you just seem to be trying to make us all have a negative view on soaps, keep bringing up the same thing, and only bash anythign and everything.

you to offer strong views and always back them up, and i respect that. however if you contenue to just bash and try to make this board negative i, and i assume lots of others, will just hit the ignor button. the only reason i have not yet is because i do like to for the most part read ur views and whatnot on topics. but at this point its all just blended into on thoguht and view of "daytime IS dying.

mods, i hope i didnt break any rules of SON, if so sorry.

    • What did you all think of Hogan/Patti compared to the stuff with Liza and Sonny? Did you buy anything about Sonny and Bela? Has a recast ever decentralized a character as much as Sherry's exit did with Liza? Or do you think that would have happened even if Sherry had stayed?
    •     I think the three comments pretty much summarize my thoughts. The green is not pleasant. I think I know where they were going with it, but it doesn't translate on screen.  The bar at Uptown is actually pretty good. It's my favorite part. I totally get it having an East Coast vibe. I used to frequent a place like it and while I wouldn't necessarily call it pretty...it was a bit Kitsch but it had a vibe. This place is lacking the vibe. I know it's not easy to hire extras, but even having a karaoke night in the background or live music would change the whole feel.  Vernon and Anita having breakfast there was a great idea. Another place besides the country club where they could talk. However, why were they using country club china at an establishment like Uptown. It just seems a bit confused. I don't understand what it's supposed to be.
    • Add me to the list of people who like Tanisha Harper as Jordan I never understood any of the criticism of her, to be honest. She's gorgeous and she's solid in her role. Sounds like a soap staple to me.
    • Thanks for the walk down Memory Lane!   (Can you imagine what the synopsis for 2024/2025 will look like 50 years from now?  It'll basically just be a flowchart of who was the CEO of which unseen corporation, lol.)
    • Yes . Its time to get these folks outta their clothes lol.

    • Leslie is extra but she's told the truth about what happened back then. They were in love, at least he led her to beleive they were. I never go the impression that she was crazy or a hot mess when they were involved. From the bits that we've heard, it seems more like she got bitter and jaded over the years but when they had their affair? She was all good   Ted shouldnt stress getting Eva anything. Like he just go her an apartment, no to mention a job. I think his continued attention and presence in her life mean more than material things he could buy   June definitely knows those kids. She was lying bc she doesnt want to answer what happened to said kids
    • It's very smart, even if I don't love the choice of content creators. And it's hilarious Daphnée keeps doing lives on Instagram, when she's admitted she isn't the best of them.
    • Tomlin's first stint was from May 1983 to March 1984 (11 months) when he left to become co head of AW. He lasts about six months the second time. But he' paired with John Whitesell this time and the show was a wreck after Mayer/Braxton's 6 months.
