Maurice Bernard would probably be upset if they recasted Brenda, he adores Vanessa.

Vanessa IS Brenda. No one else can play her and no one else should, as much as I love Rebecca, she can't be Brenda.

I do agree with you guys that Brenda isn't needed right now and that Marcil was great, but I think if they did a good job recasting that I could accept it. If Sarah Brown can be replaced (and John Ingle) then surely Brenda is.

They would just have to go through an extensive search like Y&R did for Victoria. Unlike Carly they need to make sure they have it right BEFORE bringing her on.

Some roles are not recastable, but Brenda (as much as I loved Vanessa Marcil) and Bianca Montgomery (I love Eden Riegel too), are not examples of them. If Clint Ritchie(ex-Clint, OLTL), Sarah Brown(ex-Carly, GH), & the late David Lewis(Edward, GH) & John Clarke(ex-Mickey, DAYS) can be, then they sure can. I do think that Susan Lucci as Erica is unrecastable, as are Erika Slezak(Viki, OLTL, even though I know she didn't create the role, she's too immensely popular), David Canary(Adam & Stuart, AMC), Michael E. Knight(Tad, AMC), James Mitchell(Palmer, AMC), Phil Carey(Asa, OLTL), Bob Woods(Bo, OLTL), Frances Reid(Alice, DAYS), & Deidre Hall(Marlena, DAYS) are just a few examples of actors that cannot be replaced with a recast.

i still think nobody is Carly but Sarah Brown. Its not Carly on our screens, its a pathetic artificial replacement, and im not talking about the actresses who have all been very capable, im talking about the CHARACTER. Sure, all subsequent Carlys have had their moments (Tamara had the rivalry with Skye, the Carlo thing, Jennifer had the refreshing hardness that proved a bit over zealous and Laura has the chops) but NONE can top Sarah. None. Ever. Carly must die. Carly must die in order for the original true Carly to be valued more in the grand scheme of things.

Brenda most certainly can be recast. I loved Vanessa as her but she wasnt all that. I thought no one could replace Sarah Brown as Carly and they went and proved me wrong with Tamara. Ditto with OLTL's Todd

UPDATE from the new ABC SOAPS IN DEPTH.

It's confirmed that Lauren Woodland IS NOT the Nu Courtney Matthews and that the role has NOT been cast yet and quotes an ABC rep as stating that the role will NOT be re-cast UNTIL the END OF DECEMBER. Alicia Leigh Willis tapes her last episode the week of Christmas and will last air sometime in January (probably the first part of it).

btw, I'm so sick of people saying Lauren Woodland is too young to replace Alicia Leigh Willis as Courtney. Lauren is only a year younger than Willis.

Hopefully, Erin Hershey Presley, who's been noted as the fave as the NuCourtney, will get it. I think she'd be a lot better based on looks and talent.

    • -- I love a good build, and the show has made me look forward to Winterfest. But some things seem so forced.  -- For example, the Vernon/Sharon meetups. GMAB. It's so obvious what this is and they're playing it too hard for too long.  I think one purpose is to make Leslie look like a fool, but it's hard to take. Is the tour over for Sharon? Does she sit in the hotel room all day long waiting for Vernon? Is he paying her bills? It's dumb.  -- Leslie is an awful human. I don't think she gives a rat's ass about Peaches. She cares more about Eva's sex life.  -- Izaiah and Eva have nice chemistry, but their conversation seemed forced to me. Didn't sound like first date dialogue and was too on the nose.  -- Shanice was great in taking down Leslie. I'm so glad the writing didn't have Leslie land the biggest smackdown. Dr. Wilkes was also great.  -- Again, Leslie is spending like she's worth a bajillion dollars. This has to be written for laughs.  -- I've done a complete turnaround on June. I now think she's a great addition.  -- Martin and Smitty are so concerned that Tyrell learn about Banneker that they call in a guy who started work there this week?

-- Tyrell is so much more mature than Samantha. I hate the way she treats him and talks about him in front of others.  She really sat there and asked Jessica why she's even with Tyrell. Samantha is pathetic.    Screenshot time: -- If I can get Fish & Fries at Orphey Gene's for $5, why is a glass of juice $4 ? -- That Mr & Mr sign at Martin and Smitty's is beyond lame and tacky.
    • So do I. Jack actually treats her like an equal partner. And he’s done far less evil things Nikki has just to ignore including to his own kids than Victor any day.
    • This 11/17 episode was extremely lazy and boring. That Adam and Chelsea opening scene was so cringe and out of character for both.  Billy Flynn is being wasted and I was only interested in Claire and Holden.    Every character feels the same with no actual personality.
    • Ugh...right? At least if Chris Bernau had been able to continue in the role, it would've been intriguing to watch Alan manipulate Reva.
    • Yes, it was. Dinah had started to soften after Henry's heart attack in March. After Paige Turco took over the role, the attitude is turned way, way down. The thing about Vanessa was, she could be very territorial. If Dinah had gone to Lillian (who had befriended Dinah before she knew Vanessa was her mother), that would've stung a bit, but Van probably would've understood. But Dinah getting advice from Ross' new girlfriend would not have sat well with her, the same way Van later bristles anytime Nadine tries to stake some kind of role in Bill's life. @DeeVee  I know it's been brought up before, but I hadn't really connected Long breaking up Ross/Van to the fact that she'd neither created that backstory or been responsible for giving them a love child.  I wonder what she would've done had she been there when Jordan left, and had to break Billy/Van up.
    • Yes it was The Young and the Restless.
    • I would love for Rick and Amber to come back and Amber to be involved with Deke somehow

The show does look great though!
    • Well, she just said "ladies" on the show but she didn't specify they were fellow actresses. It could have been some of the women behind the scenes of the show. There was a lot in the interview that wasn't clear to me.
    • Now would’ve been a great time to get the next A plot going, versus Bill and Katie and Steffy and Liam rehashing the same BS about Luna we have been hearing for weeks.
    • I feel it could benefit from a focus on one of their three A stories or a solid B plot. But right before the turnover from Guza to Thomson, outside of all things Dani...there's nothing too A story-ish going on. Still entertaining for me, but it's noticeable that there is not a main story with other B/C stories going on. It's just...a bunch of stories going on.    I do hope the build to Winterfest and us actually seeing it THIS month will get things moving again.    HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!
