DAYS

Best

William Bell - He saved this show from cancellation and made it one of the most popular shows in the 70s. His stories were great and very family-oriented.

Hogan Sheffer - He's done an awesome job when he's given the reigns.

Worst

James Reilly - Just take a look at anything from 2003-2006.

All My Children:

Best: Obviously it goes without saying, Agnes Nixon. She knows exactly what the shows true identity is. When she and Lorraine Broderick were controlling things in the mid 90's, AMC was unforgettable.

Worst: Jean Passanante...... what can be said that hasn't been uttered a million times before. Just watch an episode of ATWT currently and no explanation is needed. She just plain sucks as a writer and her stories were repulsive and nothing she did could even remotely be considered entertaining or quality.

The Young and the Restless:

Best: Bill Bell.... same as Agnes Nixon. When he left, Y&R slowly began to leave with him.

Worst: Lynn Marie Latham.... in a little over a year this show lost any once of its identity it once had. It isn't Y&R anymore.

DAYS Good Headwriters

Sally Sussman Morina

Wrote DAYS very dramatic and as an adult show without any annoying teens at all.

James E Reilly

He was the one who builded up the current ground that DAYS is still today standing on.

Wrote awesome storylines that had never been seen before on Daytime.

Peter Brash

Paula Cwikly

Cleaned up Langans mess and made DAYS very well balanced.

Started a lot of storylines with great potential.

DAYS Bad Headwriters

Dena Higley

This woman was the one who started the Cartoonish trend on DAYS. I hope she burns in hell.

Tom Langan

He wasnt even a real writer, he was only hired beceause nobody else wanted to take over as Head Writer at the time.

Wrote almost only for the teens and had no long term plan what so ever.

He ruined everything that DAYS had built up during the 90's.

Nina Laemmle

Similar to Langan. She ruined most of William J Bell and Pat Falken Smiths groundwork.

    AMC:

    Best:

I think Nixon goes without saying but Broderick was fabulous.

    Richard culliton:

I know, I know, I'm probably alone here but I thought AMC was so entertaining under him. First few months of Proteus..Frankie...Kendall..

    Worst:

McTavish: Still not sure AMC can recover (watched Fusion girls dance around and cries).

    Jean P: SOOOOOOOOO Painful

    Culliton's Successors: Joni/JR; Nuff Said

    GL

    Best

Historically, Doug Marland, Pam Long, all great writers, but the last time in recent history that GL was deep, meanngful and oh so entertaining was under Millie Taggert.

    Worst:

    McTavish Again.

    Ellen Weston (Actually, she wins)

Barbara J. Esensten and James Harmon Brown: Great sytuff until about late 1999.

    OLTL:

Historically: Gordon Russell and Sam Hall

    Best: Malone (first time around)

    Claire Labine

    Worst:

    McTavish: See a trend?

    Higley: Worst ever.

      • I love me some Anita and TT. They need to give her a good storyline and I know that it's coming.
      • @Franko Thanks for tagging me. A few days ago I was talking in another thread about the rise of "snarky" critics for TV shows in the '90s online recaps, but this is just more along the lines of a mauling. There's also the unspoken reality that these were seen as movies for women, so therefore they sucked. Pauline Kael also had her share of blunt, at times incredibly nasty remarks, but the vitriol is often balanced by her love for film. I'm not seeing that here.  With that said, the comment about Field's work becoming unbearable describes how I felt when I tried to sit through her and Maura Tierney on ER.
      • I skipped most of Daniel too. I think it's awful he has kids with Nicole, Csrky5 and Chloe and Brady, Bo and Philip do not.

      • Today was very focused on Bo and his illness.  I’m liking how everything is ultimately tied together, even though everybody doesn’t know it yet. The EJ connection seems a little sudden and random though. I’m guessing that that was not on Ron’s agenda. And I’m not really sure why any of these rich people couldn’t help the hospital months ago lol  But I really like how the whole sepsis drug thing is being written a lot more realistically than what we’ve grown accustomed to with Dr. Rolf and all of his wonder drugs. They’re definitely putting more of an effort into this storyline. It feels more real.  Philip was a little whiny and self-pitying today, but I also feel like the writing has improved for him as well. He’s coming off less like a villain and more like a tragic hero. I enjoyed his scene with Stephanie and hopefully it means that at some point, we’ll get a revival of Philip/ Stephanie/Alex. Tying it to Stephanie’s novel could be really good. And, the dorkiness of Xander and Sarah was really sweet too. I’m looking forward to their weekend together and what secrets may or may not come out lol
      • "And I also want to flirt with every woman that comes my way... but then beat up anyone who talks to my wife. BECAUSE I'M A MAAAAAAAAAAAN." Give me a break with your ugly baby paintings... You're in the same category of the hacks that sell paintings with a single dot for thousands or even millions of dollars.

      • I have to check out his Bela Garody on Search for tomorrow. He was one of the main reasons EON worked for me when I was watching. Truly unforgettable presence. Handsome in the most perverse and sinister way. They don't make faces like that anymore.
      • My favorite moment in SOAPDISH is the HW taking the star to the mall in NJ to improve "morale"!!
      • Oh no! The shoulder pads! I will mourn them when they're gone. Please tell me the head pieces and hats remained!?
