Finale aside, few shows have made me think they should not go past two seasons more than China Beach.

You didn't like the last two seasons?

I dunno, I thought CB was a class act from beginning to end. Very well done, with a level of talent on both sides of the camera you don't see much nowadays on network TV. It's definitely better than CBS' "Tour of Duty," which ran around the same time, I think, but constantly had to reboot/revamp itself each season, and wasn't as honest about the horrors of the Vietnam War.

Oh stuff like China Beach does occupy a weird space in time. The Vietnam war certainly did push a lot of shows that weren't necessarily that mainstream.

Also, Dana Delaney has a great plastic surgeon. She looks amazing to this day.

Too much focus on McMurphy's life (that dreary French doctor...), just too much focus on McMurphy, period, and I felt like they went overboard in reminding us of how terrible Vietnam was when we already knew that. There was a whole episode about some young soldier who was paralyzed and I just remember a lot of Robert Picardo screaming and I felt like someone had gotten their student film script sent through.

The fourth season is better, the story with KC is very moving, but again, so many repeated beats with McMurphy and her love life and all of her angst, literally every man in the cast being in love with her aside from Boonie (they must have run out of time).

I also thought they did Frankie dirty.

To me the two-parter where she went back home to see her dying father was a perfect conclusion.

God, I'm so horrible that I keep thinking that Tyler Perry is fascinating from a self-hating gay perspective. Veronica in The Haves and the Have Nots is clearly his mother stand-in. Yet, Tyler, I'm sure your mom isn't that hateful. She's just a camp parody of the homophobic mother without much effort put behind her motivations.

Also, why on earth are people watching Tyler Perry shows?

It cracks me up that Central Park West rips are still largely those I did in the early 2000s. I need to get a better tv ripper and crack this open:

People of color are glad to have any representation or visibility, regardless of quality.

You aren't the only one who's fascinated by that, lol.

I've kept watching The Haves and the Have Nots and I'm so sorry. I finally understand the African-American plight.

Because why are you watching trash like this when you could be watching better trash!!! This show is awful. I want to go HAM like Veronica every time I watch this show and mind you, I have over 50 episodes left!!! I hate you.

44 episode season. That's all.

And it's all endless conversations with a few explosions and falls down stairs. I feel the plight of African-Americans, I really do. Because why do you watch this trash? Why don't we give space and money to talented people? Also, Tyler Perry is GAY and he needs to DEAL WITH IT.

God-[!@#$%^&*]-damnit.

I like how few days have technically passed since the pilot and now Jeffrey's full-on gay and has white boys throwing themselves all over him while his mother is commenting sarcistically on it. Also, let's talk about Veronica's character evolution from a "oh, I don't want my son to be gay" to a full on psycho bitch. Or how all female characters tend to end up being psycho bitches.

Then there's how everyone in love with Jeffrey seems to become psycho like that cop. Or rather, every character are just completely unhinged for... reasons.

Also, how is that GoFundMe for Tyler Perry's therapy bill going? He might be rich, but man, he's going to go broke trying to untangle whatever is going on in his head. It's okay to be gay!!!

The early days of FOX, UPN and The WB are perfect examples of Hollywood's relationship with "urban" audiences. They always need us in the beginning to help establish their brands. Then, once they're financially solvent, they can't WAIT to ankle us and chase after more upscale, white audiences.

I'm so terribly sorry, I really am. I never understood the whole "white guilt" thing, but the fact that Tyler Perry succeeds and a lot of other African-American talent don't - that are undoubtedly more creative, imaginative and possibly David Lynchian - makes me feel a bit guilty. Yet I can't stop watching this absolute trash garbage piece of [!@#$%^&*] show.

It's awful and I feel ashamed. Like my mom loves to say - it is what it is.

Don't feel ashamed. Enjoying any of TP's stuff, even on a "This [!@#$%^&*] is so awful, but I can't stop watching!" level, doesn't mean you're ready for the KKK, lol. You're entitled to enjoy what you enjoy without shame, or guilt, or feelings of retribution. So long as you understand - and it's obvious that you do - that TP, in no way, represents the totality of the African-American experience anymore than, say, Norman Lear's sitcoms from the '70's. It's MORE than clear he's got issues he needs to work on; but, for now, he's entertaining peeps (even in an ironic way) and making coin off of it, so more power to him, lol.

Yeah, but it's more that there's clearly talented people out there that's getting run over by Tyler Perry because he delivers low-grade trash for cheap, lol. I always wish for talented people to come up ahead and a lot of times that just doesn't happen with a bit of push!
