DAYS: Ending Effects

I don't really have a problem with the freeze or the "Next on Days..." I have a big problem with the effects on the freeze though! Embarrassing, cheap, ridiculous are just a few words that comes to my mind while wathing that stupid (another one, lol) freeze.

I don't actually care much about the effects... as long as the show is good, I'm good too...

Although I uber-hate the special effects, the freeze frame isn't much better. I agree with everyone who thinks it takes away from the dramatic appeal of the final scene. Everytime I see the cheesy special effect that Days come up with, I get embarassed. It just looks bad. I love the fade to black because it gives the opportunity to see what the rest of the actor/characters reactions are. I've noticed a lot of great subtleties on people's faces during fade to black sequences. You just don't get that with the freeze frames.

It appears that I might be the only one who enjoys the effects that DAYS has at the end of their episodes. The freeze frame is a great quirk for DAYS to have. Also, I love the "Next Time" preview with the special lighting effects, etc, and at the very end when the bolt of light comes flying through...I love it! What's so wrong with it?

Nothings wrong with it IMO. I love the ending. The effects and MOST of all the music. The sound effects are incredible. And the "on the next day" previews are awesome. The lighting is really cool too. The whole light vs dark element is sweet.

ITA! I don't much pay attention to the special effects at the end of the show, much like I don't pay attention to who writes the show every day. As long as the show is a good one, I don't much care if it's fade to black or a "freeze frame."

The only soap opera to master the freeze frame at the end of an episode was Another World (RIP). I remember it being their trademark. Other soaps tried it, GL, now Days but AW just had it down. I miss AW.

I'd rather it be a simple fade to black.

Freeze frame distracts me since sometimes it happens on an accidental goofy face or in a half-blink.

The special effects are disastrous!

If you haven't noticed they don't do them everyday now maybe they are phasing it out or something. Or at least I hope they are and the freeze frame thing is fine its the moronic special effects used that are so cheesy and stupid.

Sorry, but that makes me laugh.

"Phasing it out"?

Honestly.

Crappy special effects that, in some cases, can cause seizures, don't need to be phased out. They can just stop one day and then be gone forever. Not many people -- at least, the VAST minority -- would miss them.

Phase out a character or couple or story. Not special effects.

Ken Corday? Wyman? You've done it again, bozos!

The ending attempts to be creative and intensify the drama. It fails, miserably. The two Ponz mentioned are classic. It should be left up to the material to reach the highest points of drama. The reason these are called soap operas are because they are set up like stage productions, as far drasmatic value, and you can't make the image change on stage, except with lighting. And these effects don't for lack of a better word have the same effect. A freeze frame/credit roll, unaltered, would be a great thing to see again. And a fade-to-black will never die out, and that includes on stage. Notice, both the classic endings are two things done on stage, as well.

REALLY, WHAT is their problem?

There's really no excuse why can't scrolled a quick "Days of Our Lives."

Is it because NBC is so gung-ho about their stupid ads and that's why they strip in the credits and squeeze the picture (or whatever they do these days)?

WELL, YASTILLGOT NO EXCUSE, BABE.

The TRUTH is, you could scroll "Days of Our Lives, copyright 2007, Corday Productions" JUST like the good ol' days, quickly, have that fade out, and THEN move to the NBC credits.

It's win/win.

I, for one, would MUCH prefer the nostalgia and "Oh, I HAVE to see the next show!" "Days of Our Lives" scroll gimmick than the CRAP we must endure these days. (Yeah, the Jennifer one was stupid -- WE GET THAT SHE'S TORN BETWEEN THE TWO SUITORS!)

Anyway, once again, Corday, congratulations on ruining a perfectly good show.

ESPECIALLy when you can do the RIGHT way. And you're just not.

They're cheap, they're cheesy, they're distracting and take you out of the scene. The cliffhanger ending is when you should be paying close attention more than anything -- it's the jumping point that's supposed to make you want to watch tomorrow. For me personally, as soon as the special effects appear, it immediately takes me out of the story and the feelings of excitement/anticipation immediately disappear, because they're just distracting.

If Steve is angry, I know he's angry... I don't need giant flames burning behind him. If Chelsea and Nick are about to make love, I know that they're having romantic feelings... I don't need giant pink hearts floating in the background. It's just too much! Less is more. Not to mention classier.

YOu've done it again! It's sad, but SO true!

Yes indeed AW had it down pact. Does any one remeber, when Vicky made Grant so mad, (I think she spit in his face) That out side on her front porch. He raised his hand as if to slap Vicky and he said "you bitch" then freeze frame. This was proably one of their finest cliffhangers/freeze frame
