ITA - she would not have answered that question.

I'd also really like to see a transcript or excerpt from her MIT visit...

... since I consider her the soap headwriter which is still alive.

I never liked Y&R more like when she was writing the GC happenings - in first 3 years she was better than William J. Bell (at least in his last few years as headwriter).

I recommend everyone listen to it...she said she would like to write AMC (she's been studying it intensely for six months and knows the characters very well) and speaks candidly about the Josh fetus/Dr. Madden storyline. She said she couldn't believe it got approved, that Brian Frons got it wrong that time. She said that Frons is actually very open to writers' visions, so clearly McTavish fought hard for it. And she took a potshot at Dena Higley for that storyline in which John McBain was burned and thought dead and no one knew the bandaged body in the hospital was his. (She said: Why didn't anyone do DNA? How can they get away with that kind of story in this day and age, especially since everyone knows about DNA?)

She also talks about Y&R and why she was let go, how there should be a mentoring process on soaps similar to what she did with Bill Bell, etc.

Lots of more good stuff...a must-listen.

OMG! I'm not even done listening to this, but she's my new best friend! She laid it all out there about the current mess AMC's in in so many words in regard to figuring out where to go with a six month story projection and where a show (she's speaking mostly in general terms, but if you pay attention, you know it's AMC) should ideally be by November sweeps:

"This particular show that I'm working on now has had everything that you could possibly imagine in terms of an event has happened, recently. There's been baby swaps. There's been a serial killer. There's been baby kidnappings. There's been... all manners of violence and mayhem have been going on... This isnt working, the ratings are terrible, what should I do..? Work with these characters and relationships to get us to new story points to break by the beginning of November... Right now the viewers need a rest. They've got to be exhausted. I know I'm exhausted watching this show. All this stuff is happening!"

I encourage those who can do so, to listen to it. It's good stuff. I feel comfortable about the fact that she isn't event-obssessed (like McTavish and her explosions and comas and crashes and storms).

She talked about everything — from how she got her job on Y&R, about Bill Bell, Lee Phillip, Bradley and his show, Lynn and her destruction, Night Shift, how she started watching ATWT, even David Mamet... An hour and a half of great Q&A!

And I'm not sure but although she kept saying she was only consulting for AMC, at one point she may have said she is taking over over there.

But, now I'm really interesetd in knowing who her protege on Y&R, a female writer who is still with the show. She said she doesn't have any doubts that that person would have been taking over if she were still with the show.

    • Ewww....I love MKA, but GL wasted her returns. I do think she sleeps with Ross, or gets darn close.   So...against my better judgment, I slid into '86 to find Vanessa confessing to Henry about being pregnant...and it's NOT William Roerick, DAMN IT. It's some damn temp Henry. But then it gets weirder because I'm listening in German, and it's the same voice fooling me.
    • I hope the writers understand how pathetic and stupid Willow looks in order to continue this madness with Drew. Willow has become a laughingstock. Lucky didn't say goodbye to Aidan? Pathetic!!!
    • I really enjoyed the first half of season 9. It was dark but Emma, Angela, Lance and Richard were front and center.  Pilar and Frank were finally interesting.  Charley, Michael and Genele came in and caused a lot of drama.  It was even sexier. I also liked the new into theme music. Then the second half of the season went to hell.
    • Something that I love about Dani is that despite her issues with Bill, she's always encouraged her daughters to have a relationship with him. I also believe that she does have a great amount of love for him which is why she is so hurt that he's sick. I've loved them including her in his recovery. It feels real and their chemistry is just insane so any chance for more of it is welcomed. That would be the perfect karma. Kat needs to learn boundaries and not be so impulsive, but I still feel like the Duprees are going to clear Leslie. How? I don't know, but that's what I think is going to happen. I feel like she'll get some kind of blackmail over them which will cause them to clear the slate. Of course the show never goes where you expect so I'm sure they'll do something different but I'm definitely curious how she will manage this.
    • Darn you Jane Elliot...you have me crying...that's how superb her acting is in these scenes with Gio. Speak on it.
    • The story has been glossed over and taken over by the lunacy redux. I wonder if they noticed how poorly the ratings are with the Liam story and went all lunacy.
    • @soapfan770Thank you so much for posting that! I know the final season of Falcon Crest is controversial but I thought it was a fantastic swing that mostly worked. The only thing that would've made it better is if they had more money which hopefully could've kept Emma full season. I feel like that was her strongest arc since season one and I wish she had remained so we could've seen her as a mother. I also wish they had more Angela but that was obviously out of their control. As different as it was, I felt season 9 to be very true to the initial gothic roots of the series.
    • You know what? I was just thinking of Klymaxx the day before you typed this and chuckled. I do love how it keeps twisting and turning, getting juicier (Eva hiding everything, knowing her mama did it only for Kat to get the goods, thinking it's Eva...not helped by her hope that it IS Eva) rather than contrived.    This. AM's acting as Eva is just so reminiscent of SMG's version of Kendall on AMC for me. She's totally going to go on to bigger and better things. She has so much nuances in her scenes.    Yeah, I really like that they played the beat of Ty wondering if Jessica was using him. I wouldn't have minded that, but we have done it before so I guess it is nice to see it is not a trick. I do wonder where it will go from here.   Thank you for the tip on Chelesa. I'm already intrigued on the stuff with Madison so Hmmmm.
    • Leslie is going to get off because of Kat.
    • If a soap actor or behind the scenes figure was roasted at any point in time, who would you have at the main table? This topic came about when I imagined a Friends episode (Joey, of course, would bomb at roasting). The Roast of Deidre Hall, circa 1997 Roastmaster: Drake Hogestyn Roasters: Jed Allan, Wayne Northrop, Joseph Mascolo, Eileen Davidson, Christie Clark, Alison Sweeney, Ken Corday, James E. Reilly, Andrea Hall, Jane Elliot, James Reynolds, Shannen Doherty, Wilford Brimley, and Frances Reid.
