The more I think of it, the more sick I am about it. The AMC of old would have never done a vet of Julia's caliber like this. Not in a million years. Frankly, I lie the blame solely on McTavish- if she wanted Brooke to have a proper exit, she could have penned it. She chose not to.

Whoever maintained that Carruthers wasn't the classy EP everyone (including me) thought she was, you were right all along.

I've been b!tching about her for months. She's either not doing her job or she is and these are actual decisions she's making. Either way, she sucks. It pisses me off because Frons, JFP, Guza, Pratt, and Carruthers were all very much a part of Santa Barbara's golden era. Who'd have thought they'd all grow up to be such hacks?

I agree that McTrash and Carruthers are as much to blame for this as Frons. All of them deserve to be fired and never work in television again for completely ignoring the wishes of the fans they are supposed to be trying to please. Why should I keep watching when it's obvious they don't care at all about what I want to watch? Julia Barr is a two-time Emmy winner, and they can't even give her any kind of a farewell. They keep hiring untalented newbies and fire a vet with two Emmys. That's just mind boggling. And, yes, what they did is the same as firing JB. I'm glad she had enough pride to tell them no to their insulting recurring offer.

I am disgusted by this news.

A big F U to McT and everyone else responsible for not giving her a proper sendoff. It would be Hall, Flannery, Zimmer or Cooper leaving their shows without a sendoff. I guess it was to much to ask since it may have taken up precious screentime for the useless characters McT wants to shove down everyones throat?

I was a huge fan of AMC from 1983-1999 and now the show is so unrecognizable. I no longer have any reason to watch.

Cady McClain said it best...

Why is it women over a certain age suddenly become undervalued? Are they, in the peak of their humor, wit, intelligence, force, and ability to inspire, suddenly "no longer interesting to watch"? I was watching Tori Amos perform on a live concert DVD earlier today and she's no spring chicken anymore but you know what, she is a POWERHOUSE. Her ability was ROCKING the WORLD on its axis, wrinkles and all, and you know what? She was damn sexy. I thought, "this woman knows things that young girls can't even imagine. Shoot." Made me a little nervous, frankly, and I'm a fan. Maybe that's it. Maybe we are afraid of their power, so we hide them away, hide them away...

Sigh.

I think Julia is a treasure. I hope she is going to turn up somewhere blasting the windows out of the room with her talent. I will miss her enormously. She is a "vet", who survived changes in producers, writers, leading men, child actors, hair dressers and boom operators, and showed up over and over and over again with ability and force. Glamorous and beautiful, smart and kind, Julia spent 30 odd years on AMC as Brooke. She taught me as I watched her work, over and over, committing to the character and situation, fighting for what she believed in, day after day never losing the will to do a good scene, or the enjoyment of a fun afternoon spent laughing on set, licking the frosting off someone else's wedding cake.

The world of Pine Valley has changed forever with her exit.

Unbelievable! :shakes head:

Someone already mentioned that Simone is getting more of a goodbye but I bet even Erin who has been on the show for a little over a year will get more of an exit than Brooke.

Julia deserves better than that.

Wow...not at all surprised, seriously. You all have so much more faith in MMT and Co. then is warranted. Me, I expect this, and hope for something better. But this is sick, even for them.

Julia Bar deserced so much more and to be written out like this, or not written out at all just disappearing, is such a tragedy. We have to suffer through the Supers Laverys mourning their beloved, boring, pointless, plot point sister...and Brooke doesn't get a goodbye to Tad or Jamie? Bastards.

This was posted at our Zendall board:

TVGuide.com previously reported that soap star Julia Barr — who's played Brooke English on All My Children since 1976 — has departed from the ABC sudser. Now there's more info to share... and it's rather disappointing, kids.

Brooke will last be seen among the mourners at Simone's funeral in the Wednesday, Dec. 20 episode. After that, she simply vanishes from the canvas of Pine Valley without explanation. An AMC rep confirmed to TVGuide.com that "there is no exit scene planned" for Brooke, but did not elaborate further.

The outspoken Julia Barr is understandably bummed out about this. In her December newsletter, Barr writes:

"I had assumed that I would have a final scene regarding my character's departure — certainly with Tad or Jamie, or even a last jab at Erica. I think the fans would have liked the chance to say goodbye to Brooke and to have had some closure with the character many have known for 30 years. I know it is what I would have wanted. However, it was not the decision that was made for whatever reason."

Hmmph! Now is this any way to treat a beloved suds veteran?

Unbelievable. How could they do this to the fans that loved AMC for years. This is disgusting. Total lack of respect for such a classy lady. Julia, I hope some other show snaps you up in a heartbeat for you are beloved. AMC doesn't deserve you
