And the stories connected to it are equally as wild. There are a few who say that many of the members were shot and killed after everyone supposedly died earlier that day. Survivors tell stories of witnessing the suicide from the woods, and watching people getting shot.

That must have been hell on Earth for those people that day.

Was it Guyana Tragedy? If it was, that got as close to it as poosible. It does make you mad, because you can't hold anyone accountable. They're all dead.

I still rememver seeing the televison movie when I was young, and could not believe the horror those people went through. I made me so damn mad. I wish I had a gun myself to blow his brains out before all those people were forced to their deaths.

Have you heard the "deathtape?" I was able to find a recording for my report and that has got to be one of the most scariest things I've ever heard in my life. I could barely sleep that night. The part that got me the most was the children and babies screaming. That got to me the most.

I heard parts of it when A&E had a special on the massacre. The batteries on the tape recorder were so low that it slowed the tape down, which allowed for the whole thing to be recorded, and I am with you. To hear almost 1,000 people go to their deaths.......it still makes my blood run cold.

I just have such a hard time believing that they would be taken under control by a conman who turned into a psychotic madman. I pray that no one ever has to live through that again. Have you heard the theory that the C.I.A. was involved in the whole thing?

    • "Aunt Blanche" first appears toward the end of this episode, about 57 minutes in.

    • You're probably right. They may have just wanted edits of certain characters. Hopefully the rest is around.
    • Of course!

I'm wondering if there were bits cut from this footage, because to me it seems that may be the case. At 11:23, Laurie tells her psychiatrist that the bar phoned and told her Mark got into a fight and needs to be picked up. It starts to fade to the next scene, you hear some different music begin and get cut off between the static, and where you'd expect to see the aftermath of the fight, we cut back to a later scene of Laurie in bed worrying about what's happening. The credits at the end also show that more than Mark, Laurie and Dr. Northcote should have been in this episode. Another character, Brody, played by Ed Setrakian, is mentioned but not shown. If this is the case, perhaps the original fan who saved this episode has the additional scenes.
    • Anyway… It’s a shame that the video that depicted Leticia’s death was removed from YT.

    • Ms. Phelps holds a BFA in directing from Carnegie Mellon University, awarded in 1972. At a time when women were underrepresented in directing programs, she was one of the few women in her graduating class. To suggest that she possessed no further talents than completely changing the style of music used on soaps seems like a vast underestimate when one reads her online biography through an objective lens. I guess that I should be more clever than to constantly blame misogyny for these misguided interpretations of her management style.  But, I'll never comprehend why fans unquestionably align their opinions even years after fact. Post-modernism, and the ability to reinterpret context through the study of history, seems to elude this conversation.

    • This is 100% correct.  It was even on the nightly news where the US Government would not let the cast and crew travel to Egypt because it was deemed not safe.  The Achille Lauro hijacking took place on October 7, 1985, when the Italian ocean liner MS Achille Lauro was hijacked by four men representing the Palestine Liberation Front off the coast of Egypt, as she was sailing from Alexandria to Ashdod, Israel. The location shoot was probably scheduled to be filmed in mid-October to air throughout November with a two week tape to air date.  Remember on the show they did some in studio scenes doubling for Egypt before shifting the action to Arizona.  It was an awkward end to a truly bizarre storyline.

New episode from late 1973 or early 1974!
    • Coronation Street had a very good story where one of the characters befriended a man who she later learned had been involved in her husband's death - when told right it can be very powerful (not like AMC trying to make it a romance). ATWT almost had a big fire in mid-1994, so this seemed to be a "thing" with P&G at the time. I guess it fits the disaster backstage atmosphere.
