ABCD sweeps question

Featured Replies

In one of the recent ratings threads the point was raised as to if ABCD viewers were migrating to non abc soaps, so :

1) Any non GH watchers planning on checking out Laura's return and if so are you checking out only GH or are you checking out the other soaps as well?

2) Any lapsed or lapsing ABCD viewers checking into DOOL or any of the non ABCD soaps?

I check out AMC every once in awhile, but do not have any plans right now to watch during sweeps. I have not watched but 5 minutes of OLTL since the first week of June, and do not plan to watch any of it during sweeps either. Nothing on either show sounds good at this point.

I will check out Laura's return. I love Genie Francis, and will check in to see how they handle her character. GH has such a poor track record with these returning characters, I want to see what they do to Laura.

At this point, I am a lapsed ABC viewer (especially OLTL) who is following the ratings and wondering about the demise of possibly both AMC and OLTL. I have and occasionally watch DOOL, ATWT, B & B, and Y and R. I love what I hear about Y and R, but not willing to make much of an effort to faithfully watch ANY soap. I'd love for spoilers to be enough to bring me back, but nothing I've seen or heard makes me particularly want to tune in again at all. If anything, most of what I hear and read makes me run the other way.

Although I fondly remember Luke and Laura, I am not certain what GF's return this time will bring (I hear rumors that they are celebrating 25 years after Luke and Laura's wedding by announcing she had two Cassadine babies instead of one???) and have little faith that I will like it, especially after Frons' quote about no one wanting to see a fat middle aged woman in a love story.

Answering my own questions, I'm pretty much a lapsing/lapsed viewer as well. I have started catching Y&R and DOOL on soapnet on occassion. No present intent to tune in for Laura's return.

The first soap I ever watched was All My Children and to this day I am faithful to All My Children. Once I began venturing to other soaps I naturally stayed with the ABC soaps (in 2004). I kind of started watching Y&R and Days in 2005. It has been only recently that I have began to watch ATWT and GL on a regular basis.

Luckily for me I have soap net and Tivo so I hace the luxury of watching many soaps. ( I perfer them over primetime tv most of the time)

The soaps that I watch the most change on a monthly basis. Currently I have not been watching GH hardly at all. I never could really get into the mob stuff and I lose total interest and usually quit watching. I know the big Luke/Laura 25th anniversery is coming up, but since I have only been watching GH for a few years its not really a major event for me.

I have been watching OLTL a few times a week. There are some characters on that show that I really like that always keep me coming back. I have never been really a John or Natalie fan, but recently with John "dying" has kept me hooked everyday. I actually kind of like watching Natalie's scenes now.

So to sum it all up I used to only be an ABC soap fan but I have really gotten into Y&R/DAYS/ATWT and I am not so much into GH as I used to be.

I've been a on and mostly off AMC viewer for the past couple of years. I got excited when Dixie returned because she and Tad were such a great couple. It didn't work. I'm lapsed at best, but probably have given up.

I'm done with OLTL. I would be an idiot to continue watching. So I'm not even lapsed with them. I'm done

GH. I will watch Luke and Laura. They are great and yes, I will watch.

As far as other soaps, I have returned to DOOL and I am so enjoying the show. If DOOL lets me down this time, I will be done with soap operas.

So in November GH will get my attention, but I won't go anywhere near another ABC soap.

I will not watch All My Children during sweeps...or any other time in the near future.

After 25 years...25 years of the trials and tribulations Pine Valley

I stopped watching months ago. Lily was in NY wondering around still when I just turned the station.

Now when Soap Net started airing Y&R I started to watch it...here and there.

But ever since John Abbott died I have watched it everyday.

And I never watched CBS soaps. Never. Now at 12:30 I have CBS on.

I'm 30 years old. I have watched ABCD since I was a very little.

I'll say 27 years worth of time.

ABCD had the best soaps growing up. Loved them all.

ABCD ruled the 80's and mid 90's man.

Great times I had watching the line-up. :)

But not now.

Hell no!

ABCD is now a piece of trash.

All my once great soap operas now look and smell like cow droppings.

All My Children starts the poopfest line-up.

AMC looks and feels like a stranger to me.

I don't really like the characters on the show. I don't know them. I don't want to know them.

All the ones that are still on the show from 20 years ago don't resemble who they once were.

Everyone is bad. Everyone is a killer.

The show is just horrible.

The classiest show of the line-up is complete garbage now

and it just continues putting more garbage on the air.

Amazing...and so sad. :(

Then we move to my poor baby One Life To Live.

The 'gritty' drama is now just the 'sh----' drama.

OLTL was always my favorite. I never missed this show. Ever.

I always taped the show when I was in school.

I loved all the characters. They were all different. They were all unique.

I loved the good guys and even the bad guys.

I always wanted to know what was going in Llanview, PA....

Not these days. Why is a guy named John, who only moved to town not that long ago, on all the time?

Why do I care about him over the ones like Viki or Bo or Nora? he hasn't earned the right to be all front and center everyday.

Same for Spencer. Get rid of him.

I don't care if he is a Buchanan.

That doesn't make him any more loved. Even as the bad guy.

Why would I even care what happens to some of these people?

Who is Claudia? Do I care about her problems? No.

Nash the wine maker? No.

Dr. Paige? Who's part on the show should be played by NORA. No.

Hugh Hughes? The winner of some gameshow, Ted? NO!

These are not great charcters. Nothing is special about them.

Great ones are all gone.

We lost the Holdens. we lost Ben.

Fun people like Alex and Cassie and Carlo and Tina are all gone.

Now Kevin and Kelly and David are going...

We had Andrew, Roxy, Lindsay, RJ, Charlotta...colorful characters, bumped. Kicked to the side.

We have stupid stories like mothers having their own kids almost raped.

Boring murder mysteries about people we never met.

What is going on this show besides John and Spencer?

Nothing. Oh wait...there's some boxing!?

From the sets down to the opening to the writing...It's all bleek and dreary and dreadful.

It really breaks my heart.

My poor little show that could...isn't.

And finally if we can stand the stench of the final hour of ABCD we get General Hospital.

The best of them all...like 50 years ago.

Am I the only one who remembers love in the afternoon?

Frisco and Felicia

Ned and Lois

Tony and Bobbie

Sean and Tiffany

Robert and Anna

Luke and Laura

It was always the two united through the good times and bad times.

Now I watch and all I see is musical couples.

A bunch of people just bouncing from one 'soulmate' to another.

Dirty bed hoppers. Why the people of Port Charles don't have an orgy down by the docks is beyond me.

It would save alot of time.

Why should I root for say Jason and Sam if they are both going to sleep around?

Lucky and Liz and been soiled...Ric and Alexis are gross in my eyes.

Frisco and Felica's kid is the town *sounds like bore*.

Who hasn't Sonny hooked up with besides Audrey?

Only the town HIV spokesperson sticks with one partner.

It gets old. I want romance...not Ho-mance.

The show throws random people together. There isn't ever-lasting love on this show.

On Monday so and so is together and by Wednesday they are with someone else.

I don't find it exciting. I don't find it fun.

"Oh let's put her with him and see what happens". No. It's GROSS!

There should be more STD testing at the hospital...even more so with the faulty condom story...(What cute fun!)

Mobsters started sinking this show. But now it's just the plain randomness of it all that is hurting it.

I can't think of any story going on the show that doesn't involve 'Guess who I had sex with?'

No... I will not be watching ABCD come November sweeps.

I doubt I will see the Febuary sweeps or May sweeps either.

I will see DAYS and Y&R's sweeps though.

I know I'll be entertained over there. At those other networks.

I've been a fan of ABC soaps for over thirty years and have gone through stages where one or more are can't miss. Right now, the whole line up isn't even worthy of being background noise. However, I'm still loyal to ABC. If I'm not watching ABC Soaps, then I'm not watching ANY Soaps!

I have absolutely NO intention to tune in to see the big Luke & Laura reunion since they have screwed over the other vets so much. I'm afraid to see what they will do with her return.
