Members DaysGal
It wasn't dirt and for sure was rosin. It showed Rogers going up and rubbing the side of his cap and also under the bill part of his cap. Interview with LaRussa today who said it wasn't dirt. It was very plain to see that it was an oily substance. Thank goodness St. Louis left Detroit with a split.
Members Roman
That's all I wanted. With them coming home for the next three, and Carpenter and Suppan going, it could getugly for Detroit.
Members PhoenixRising05
From what I heard, the substance on Rogers' hand was some sort of medical substance that is used to help cuts and wounds heal. I guess it has the same results as pine tar would for a pitcher only it will last for at least 24 hours even if washed off. In other words, even if Rogers washed it off like he did after the first inning, he would still have the full benefits of the substance. It seems he did cheat. No way was that dirt. Everyone knows it wasn't dirt. Now as for La Russa, he took the high road. From his statements, it seems he knew Rogers was using some sort of substance. ESPN has video of Rogers using it in at least 8-8 starts this season dating back to July 5 and this includes his 3 postseason games. La Russa kept saying he doesn't want anymore BS to put a damper in the competition and the WS so I think that is why he didn't make a big deal out of it. Plus, he doesn't want to win a WS because someone was caught cheating. He would never get the full respect that the team deserves for winning a WS. Let's remember too that La Russa had Conseco and Mcguire during his time as manager in Oakland and if he did call out Rogers we would here an outcry from Detroit and many others that he had players cheat too. La Russa really saved Bud Selig and MLB with his words today while also admitting Rogers cheated and that he knew beforehand via video that Rogers was using something in other starts. He could've easily went out there after 2 pitches since he knew prior to the game. I think the Leyland/La Russa relationship played into it too. Whatever the case, it is a huge controversy and will be made a bigger deal if Detroit wins because La Russa will take the heat for not doing anything. I totally see why he did what he did although I would've called him out. I did like Leyland ducking the issue though-that was lame. This does reek of a MLB coverup. They weren't saying anything about it and the umpire supervisor's comments made no sense whatsoever. Rogers was acting incredibly guilty and video clearly showed him after he completed his pitching for the night calling Leyland into the clubhouse to talk. It was very suspicious and the players were telling him to wipe something off his hand after the first inning and the umpires never checked his hand until the 2nd inning so it was too late, even though he still had the benefits of the substance. The MLB clearly was afraid to cast a pall over the WS so they remained quiet with a stupid excuse for what happened and La Russa stepped up and diffused the situation...for now. Wow...I guess I learned alot today La Russa won't get canned over this but he will take heat if this doesn't work out. I like their changes with Carpenter and Suppan though and I am very glad this is shaping up to be a good series.
Members DaysGal
^^^You said it, PR. The LaRussa/Leland relationship played a very big part of why Tony didn't make a big stink. If the Cards lose the WS, will the fans want LaRussa's head on a platter? Some will, yes. But I don't see him getting fired. Looking foward to the game tonight. Should be interesting. Members DaysGal
GO CRAZY FOLKS, GO CRAZY!!!!!! THAT'S A WINNER!!!! I felt so bad for Jim Leland. He has brought the Tigers so far, yet had all their hopes and dreams taken away. He was really too hard on himself by accepting all the blame that he didn't do enough. I don't believe that for a second. Detroit will be back I'm sure.

Members Kwing42
As a lifelong Tiger fan, I am of course sad that we did not bring it home. However, Congrats to the Cards. They totally deserved this championship. The better team won. But what is awesome is, here we had a world series with two teams that NO ONE thought would even get to the playoffs. Both teams have a lot to be proud of....just the Cards have that something extra....the Championship. But for us Tiger fans,,,there is not a damn thing to hang our heads about..we will be back...the roar has been restored! As a lifelong Tiger fan, I am of course sad that we did not bring it home. Members SteveFrame
I am so glad for the Cards. I became a fan of the team in the 80's. On our one TV station we got for awhile, the only baseball team ever shown was the Cardinals. I grew to love the team after that, and am so happy for them.
