I wonder if Haywood is still a Scientologist. He gave L. Ron Hubbard a shoutout during the WH!! reunion on Jenny Jones.

Danielle's been walking with a crutch for the past few years. People were saying that she has M.S., but she's actually suffering from latent affects of a horrific car accident (that killed her stepfather) nearly forty years ago. She looked fabulous, though. I love that cast, and Shirley was such a riot.

Have you all been watching Unsung Hollywood? I really enjoyed the What's Happening!! episode that aired this evening. Danielle Spencer's adult voice still blows my mind, she sounds completely different.
  4. The season finale, more than any previous episode, really made me scoff at this series being referred to as a "comedy". I find Augustin repulsive on a couple of levels. I could see Frank not appearing in many episodes next season.
  5. "fashial", though?
  6. As much as I adore TGG, I thought that ending was cheesy and cliche.
  7. Ugh, I guess I need to actually WATCH the TV instead of just listening to it, ha. TJ also played young Jeffrey on GL in those flashbacks with Olivia. He warned that the episode would be a whopper.
  8. Wait, I'm confused. At the wedding, didn't the bride introduce the guys and say that he should propose? Was that guy Evans? I went out after work last Sunday and I missed it. ;-P He was the hustler.
  9. Wait, so Scott Evans played the guy the sister tried to hook him up with? I need to wear my damn glasses. Julia Duffy is wonderfully cast here. What a pleasant surprise seeing her pop up. I still haven't seen last week's episode with my friend. Aug is such a smarm.
  10. "Whennn YOU-ou WALLLK, DOW-hown the RO-hoo-oad, heavy BURDUH-hun, HEHHH-eh-heh-heh-vuh-eee luh-OH-who-hoad..."
  11. You can't be everything to everybody. A glimpse is just a glimpse. Girls met similar criticism. It's not the show's fault for being what it is, rather, the industry could step up and green light more shows that would provide more of a spectrum.
  12. Phoebe was hilarious in intentional and unintentional ways which made her perhaps the campiest character of the show. RW's glances to the teleprompter had a lot to do with that. Langley, Billy Clyde, Erica, all played by actors in on the joke of their characters just like Ruth, but her caught glances, also at her cameras making sure that they were on her for her cues, added an additional campy element.
  13. Myrtle often held disdain for Erica, particularly when Erica was being nasty towards people like Nat. Myrtle and Mona's relationship was really established during the Willow Lake storyline, a lovely and rare gesture of a storyline for senior cast members, and Myrtle's maternal relationship with Erica grew out of that post Mona's death. It was a well-crafted move by the writers and it kept Myrtle relevant in a way that she otherwise would not have been on the show.
  14. For those of you who also watch Girls, do you remember that pretty graphic sexual sequence Adam had with that girl he was dating last season? I was reminded of that. Sometimes these actors' faces are like right up in there. I'm sure they're as respectful as possible on set, but framing those shots is like framing porn.
  15. I think last night's episode was the best so far, but I concede that I may be basing that on personal taste rather than actual quality. What struck me is how QUIET the episode was. No noise, just conversation, character, no plot development beyond the development of a relationship between two people. I have a habit of not looking at the TV and I felt like the episode could have been on radio and would have been just as effective.
  16. Ha, I post that clip whenever we do a thread about favorite sets. Carlotta was referred to off-screen for so long that many assumed PM was the first time we'd seen the character, forgetting this actress.
  17. Pat did appear on quite a few episodes of Loving when Angie and Frankie first moved to Corinth.
  18. Of course it's all relative because others surely have opposing opinions of the characters.
  19. I think Hannah on Girls is comically, and very purposely, unlikeable at times in sort of a self-centered Seinfeld universe sort of way, while a character like Shoshana has the same thing going for her, but she's also *irritating* which I think is the difference. Same deal for Jessa, the difference with her being that she can be so nasty. It's not that I don't enjoy "unlikeable" characters as much as annoying and irksome ones.
  20. Do we have a Girls thread on here? I really enjoy the show but I find it interesting that the most likeable characters, imo, are the supporting players. I'm really liking Marnie and Ray, which I find interesting as a soap fan of many years who has never been a"couples" person. Tessa, I care for the least (perhaps tied with Shosh) and it bothers me in the least that she's been the least featured this season.
  21. Girls is WAY more sitcomy, last week's episode almost in particular, and far closer to SATC in tone. I hate it when the media feels the need to make similes to other shows, just let it be itself.

I dream of Barbara saying the wrong thing to the right guest and getting laid out so thoroughly and completely that she's brought to tears. Hurry up universe, only a few months left!
  23. Yeah, I remember that bit about Lisa but I don't think they'd have had the balls to do it. Lisa is considerably younger than Susan. I used to think Anna Stuart would be a good Erica temp back when she was on AW before she played Mary. I think I've mentioned this on SON before, maybe it was on WoST, but I had tickets to see Susan in AGYG right before my Christmas break in college in '99. We got to the theatre box office and saw that an understudy would be going on. My lady friend who bought the tickets got her money back and I got on the Greyhound to spend Christmas with my family. A bummer missing Susan.

Oh I totally agree with you. Barbara, Rosie, and Whoopi all have that in common for me. I still love Rosie and Whoopi but the format of this show has been such a valuable lesson in the humanity of celebrities. When they make themselves so open and available, you quickly learn that you don't always agree and folks you've admired for years can really turn you off.

Exactly, I was proud of Sherri for not backing down and I am so glad that she made a point to mention that Soon Yee was underage regardless of the fact that she and Woody didn't see themselves as having a father-daughter relationship.
