Dorian was down there for a month. Jean made Dorian phone Cassie to tell her that she was in Spain and had no intentions of coming back to Llanview. When Jean learned that Cassie had the call traced to a local cell phone, Jean knew her plan was unravelling and she agreed to release Dorian (on several conditions) once the house was clear. Todd confronted "Viki" about their pervy father and Jean lost control and Niki emerged. She took off for Atlantic City and left Dorian starving in the secret room for days. Dorian busted through the wall and discovered an underground tunnel. I was certain this tunnel was going to lead to Eterna, but no, they didn't go there. ๐ Jean reemerged and rushed back to Llanfair just in time to catch Dorian before escaping, and released her as promised. It all eventually came out but at first Dorian had to honor Jean's conditions to keep Viki's abuse and other personalities a secret, and to dump Joey and marry David. In return, Jean would ensure that "Viki" wouldn't further pursue murder charges against Dorian since it turned out that Irene's diary confession that got Dorian off death row was a forgery.

It's all a matter of retro-logic really as Robin Strasser pitched the idea of introducing the sexual abuse factor into Viki's history of DID. She's admitted that she sort of shot herself in the foot by doing so as it led to the revelation that Viki killed her father when Robin used Dorian's responsibility for Victor' s death as major character motivation. Me too. As well as the scene I believe @Paul Raven talks about where Karen whoops Dorian's ass.

Racism and racial representation on soaps
Has VR guest-starred on any of the OWN series? Rather than be wasted on Y&R, she should be a series regular on one of those shows, she's certainly as capable as/more soapily equipped than Robin Givens. VR could play a Dru-type, in the vein of so many soap stars afforded the same opportunity in daytime (soap hopping playing essentially the same character with a new name and set of circumstances). If we still had at least 10 soaps on the air, maybe VR would have had this chance by now (assuming someone in daytime with a spine stood up for the "uncastable"). And then there was "sassy" full-figured Sofia, and I wish somebody would look me dead in my face and tell me that had nothing to do with Oprah in The Color Purple.

Thank you! Yes, upon her resumรฉ, I now recognize her. I mistakenly remembered Louie having Dementia rather than cancer. At any rate, even then I appreciated his presence on the show for filling out that age group and giving Kate something to do. They'd do a little more with that with another soap alum of a certain age, Stu from SFT as Gwyn's dad.

Yeah, I'm forgetting the details, but she used tainted crรจme that disfigured her, she was in bandages for a go.

Does anyone know the name of the actress playing Beatrice? I know I know her from another show (maybe TCS?), I just can't place her at the moment. This is around the time I first say Patricia Barry as Isabelle (my mother: "They done changed that picture for the thousandth time..."). I missed the chemical burn stuff when the face cream turned Celeste Holm into Patricia Barry. I'm guessing that was late '92?

Yes, Arthur Burghardt. She never ever calls him by name, but that's who. She *begged* for him not to be cast.

Racism and racial representation on soaps
Totally. I watched this the other week when it was posted, and I could practically hear the register printing out all of Ms. Holly's receipts. At least Erika Slezak had the good sense to admit that Viki didn't deserve to be Carla's matron of honor (which Holly took as an ungrateful affront). I can't help but laugh at 4:00 where Viki gets yet another closeup and Erika seems to be thinking, "WTF am I doing here..."

Yes, I always loved any reference to Nora being Jewish. I even remember Rachel referring to herself as "a good little Jewish girl."

Racism and racial representation on soaps
How explicit was OLTL about the Siegels' faith? I'm thinking about how some years later on AW, Iris' mother Sylvie's Judaism was "heavily inferred" but never outright stated. I can imagine clunky "safe" dialogue using phrases like "interfaith marriage" and whatnot, but I'm curious how often the word Jewish was uttered and how Agnes Nixon established their religion to begin with. Did the Siegels go to temple, observe high holidays? @Paul Raven @vetsoapfan

Racism and racial representation on soaps
Debbi Morgan and Darnell Williams shared this sentiment, i.e., Angie (Chief of Staff) and Jesse (Chief of Police) in their *cozy* loft. 2.0 righted this, IIRC.

Racism and racial representation on soaps
I remember a fan in the AOL OLTL forum defending Kassie's casting saying that the Badderly s/l was over and Blair didn't need to speak Japanese anymore so her race didn't matter. ๐คท๐ฝโโ๏ธ I didn't see these episodes but I've read that the show even went to the trouble of reshooting Addie's flashbacks of her sexual assault with a white actor in place of the original Asian actor.

No, I think the character's DEATH had something to do with it. ๐ Bridges and Page were stunt cast to draw viewers to the pilot movie where they'd hopefully take enough interest in the rest of the action to tune in on Monday. The movie is clearly scripted to relieve the two stars of their duties by having them be the murderer and the murdered. Cranston talks about this in his book, how promos flashed shots of the various cast members teasing who would be the victim and who would be the culprit and it was evident that it would be the two movie stars. I have a foggy memory of a Bridges quote Seli Groves uses in her Ultimate Soap Opera Guide. I think he was asked how he liked working on the soap/would he do it again, and Bridges says something to the effect that he enjoyed the experience enough, but they killed his character so it was a moot point. Groves follows this with a quip about how we daytime fans know that soap death is seldom permanent. I'm a huge fan of Geraldine Page, I think she's the best thing about the whole two hours. She would have been an extraordinary addition to any soap, if only for a three-month arc. Imagine what Lemay would have written for her.

Any Capitol Fans Here?
This link was to the Capitol Megasite, ran by a lovely Italian gentleman named Claudio, but unfortunately the site is no longer online. Too bad because there were many pictures, articles, and of course things like the bibles, that I haven't seen anywhere else. What I remember most about the original bible was that the Cleggs vs. the McCandlesses wasn't nearly as central. Even more interesting was the strong emphasis on ingenue, Merle, a beautiful biracial coed. From what I remember, it was implied that she could almost pass but was always aware of the difference between herself and her white housemates. I think it was also implied that there was mystery surrounding her parentage. Regrettably, all of this was dropped. (On second thought, perhaps it was for the best.)

Any Capitol Fans Here?
Yes, but dubbed in Italian. All of the show's first few years are on YouTube in Italian. I don't think I've seen the pilot movie in English since WoST. And in nearby Potomac. I was too little to remember them shooting in my area, but I've read old articles in the Post about how freezing it was and poor Bill Beyers was sick as a dog.

Look into the past - 1975
I don't think I realized just how brief Victor and Dorian's union was in fact. She moved quickly. I haven't read my AMC 25th anniversary book in years, not sure that I knew about the story with Ann and the suspected child abuse. Sounds interesting.

What Are You Watching/Binging/Streaming Now?
And yet again, you prove that you're one of my people. I've been meaning to start a TLC/Discovery thread for a while now but figured there was little interest. Y'all are hanging out in here! In addition, I'm obsessed with the 90 Day Fiancรฉ franchise and Naked and Afraid, and a new season of Smothered will be starting soon. I recently binged on Tiger King, and I'm afraid I've overbinged and exhausted my favorite podcast, Crime Junkies, which all of you should be listening to! SImilarly, I'm a huge Dateline fan to the point of annoyance when I see that several episodes will be airing back to back because I know I can't resist.
