I loved all of Bianca, but I sure got sick of Ryan Lavery & his family! If only CM had been an actor, really!

Jerry VerDorn has passed away
And Mikey, O'Leary & JVD were the very comedic handymen in the most recent Venicetheseries and Mikey shared that Jerry had said it would be the last thing he'd do. I had been wondering if it was ever going to come up that Jerry had battled cancer back in the day & it finally was mentioned. Sounds like he was in good shape with the Universe. That pleases me. Michael Maloney is the journalist & he's the author of the recent Bell Sr. book that had the info in it about Corday owning 1% of Y&R.

Of course, we know very little. Two lines in a wiki. They dated. They broke up over some unknown thing about their SB personas.

Characters that ATE their Soaps
When Beverlee McKinsey pulled her getaway from GL, she had told Jill that she didn't like her story & didn't want to be interfering in her son's love life & that she was tired & couldn't keep working, all day, 4 days per week, but Jill didn't pay any attention.

I have a different take on EW. I think she was one of the few people who could deal with what had been handed down by CBS & agreed to by P&G to keep the show on the air and that was, for GL, the new production model, for ATWT it was a change to a terrible way of telling stories. It's true that Goutman was the one who gave her, as well as other people, chances to first direct & later shadow him as a producer. But, in the last days they couldn't have been more different. Ellen was brilliant & inventive while Goutman/ATWT as compared to Goutman/AW turned against the fans memorably saying he didn't want to hear their ideas, that he didn't need to, that he knew what was best for the show. And, Martha was pretty forthcoming the night after the s*it hit the fan in a chat on her website. She was prepared to say nothing as long as he said nothing. Once he spouted a lot of garbage, she was free to talk about who did what, etc. I give her a ton of breaks, too, but not this one, by calling it an error in judgment. Obviously to me it's more of an indictment than it is to you. We both hold her responsible for the loss of Jerry Ver Dorn.

One thing not to overlook vis a vis Shapiro & Dano & that was the friendship & the crisis that was underway with everyone on AW. Shapiro may have let feelings of affection get in the way of good decision-making. I find myself in the group of people who think people didn't know what a gem AW was until it was gone. How special it was got lost in the war NBC waged to try to destroy it to be rid of it.

I love Julie Pinson. I'm the sole member I think of Team Eve on PC! So, Julie came around & read when Goutman was busy burning Martha & Passanante conceived of a midWestern Italian girl just like herself! Still, it didn't have to become The Janet Show! It was already busy enough being The Katie Show.

Characters that ATE their Soaps
GH was my 1st choice but just 1 soap is the important part. And, another thing, I cannot imagine how much the HWs hated that whole thing. It made me think Shapiro was great at the big picture but pitiful with detail.

Characters that ATE their Soaps
I had NO idea about all of this whooplah surrounding RC! I liked her. I guess I didn't draw any attention to myself from her legions. But, I just wanted to say one thing & that is that if P&G had amazed everyone & sold FG to Shapiro then maybe they would've been smart enough to buy Cass at least to give the boa lady an appearance of an entourage. But I still think galloping from show to show was the flaw in the plan. The move from Bay City over would be 1 & add as you go & that's 5 moves. Soap fans don't like to move.

All: character may be killed off
OMG! I don't recognize anything Doctor Who-iverse in that tale! What about Rolf, isn't that his name? Maybe he's met someone who can do things beyond what he can do? If only Madam were present Ivan might know someone. So, Abby-in-Gwen Abigwen, okay, she would have Ryan's corneas, does that mean she would have strange dreams of some blonde named Vicky?

Cancelled Soap Questions
There's coverage of the network expansion, from half hour to hour & their starting with AW & leaving it that if it went well with AW that they would then and only then go forward with DOOL, in Elana Levine's 2020 book Her Stories. There is no mention of expanding The Doctors. There is no mention of the further expansion of AW from 60 min to 90 min. Not from that source, and frankly useless because it lacks a source, but I have a quote that the NBC Programmers, presumably after doing it & looking back on their actions, admitted that they went to a 90 min show because they did not have any better idea to try,

Unpopular opinions: cancelled soaps edition
So, you're saying that that's a Big Number 3 with a bullet for "Jill, Some Good Things"?? Right. I don't know anything about the situation but that's what I take away, which is a good thing. Lord knows, she's got enough bad marks on her record. Look at me I absolutely call her a #SoapKiller & I'm looking for good things. I can't help it. I am driven to see more than one side.

Me, too! I am still amazed at one-offs this far back but a week consecutive just blows me away! @victoria foxton 🥳 I have just found 5 first day YT videos (GH, Never Too Young, Capitol, Loving and The City) and I don't know where would be best to put them. A new topic of their own for all first days or parceled out to various show topics?

Guiding Light Discussion Thread
I've always thought that this was an error in judgment. They moved a number of people from contract to recurring at that time, obvious it was crunch time yet again over money. But, I'm sure they thought they'd still have them because what were the odds that they'd land a new job in that market?! Well, guess what? OLTL just happened to be desperate for a new Clint and bless Jerry's heart he was incredibly versatile. Our loss. Thank you. It's late but I finally understand The Beacon. They didn't even say a state name for AW until the early '80s!

Unpopular opinions: cancelled soaps edition
As far as Susan Lucci goes, I'd be surprised if this was an unpopular opinion. I think it's almost universal that people think she was limited. But I wouldn't put the character in that lane. Maybe it's because I think about Vicky Wyndham's Rachel, who is after all, another Erica, just as Mona & Ada are parallel. Nixon had written the AMC show bible & gotten no takers on it when she went to work saving AW & Ada & Rachel fit right in. And, VW never did get her Emmy. I give JFP credit for 2 things & only 2 things. 1) In regard to the murder of Frankie Frame at AW there is a name she could name which would take some of the heat off of her but she will not name them. I respect her for that. 2) Zaslow went to GL to get them to write ALS into his storyline & people began to plan out how they would do that until Rauch told them to stop, that it wasn't going to happen, so Zas sued & got whatever secret settlement & then went to OLTL with the same request & JFP made it happen. Sure, lots of people had to be involved in making that happen but she's the only one who could've said LETS GO. I admire her for that. I would be very curious what specifically is said to be her doing at SB.

Characters that ATE their Soaps
At AW she lost power before she was ushered out of the building. She tried to get Frankie's gruesome onscreen murder by Fax Neuman, serial killer, changed to a more soapy attack, offscreen so maybe she could be "un-deaded" but she didn't have the power to make it happen. Margaret DePriest had more power than she & wanted the death to be clearly conclusive.

Characters that ATE their Soaps
If I remember correctly JFP was at GH for an amazing 12 years! I think so. And, by far the longest she was made welcome. Her pattern is to be popular with the Honchos & half the actors for a few years & then they can't get rid of her fast enough.
