Days of Our Lives: May 2022 Discussion Thread
You mean they don't just act like it's the day it's supposed to be? Oh I see. They probably have calendars of a sort on set that reminds everyone that it is a specific day, especially a Friday the 13th but if something throws them off, well, then, they're just SOL. Excuse me while I worked that out for myself. I hate all of this time stuff.

Cancelled Soap Questions
When Sally Sussman was HWing the new-at-the-time half hour soap I thought she was a very strong HW. And, PC, of course, had so many different people HWing & turmoil is always bad for the soap but they had plenty of good people. Think, even a broken clock is right twice a day! And, isn't B&B sheltered by having Y&R lead in to it? It's protected & for its own sake we can all be happy that it does so well internationally as that is its niche. About GEN, it was said that it had protection but it lost it & so didn't get to play out that third year of its first contract.

soap opera sets and set designers
Speaking of swimming pools & AW in the same breath & I recall not so fondly Mac in his Speedo & cringe. Of course, Grant Aleksander playing Alec McIntyre on AMC, well he wore his Speedo well.

Judith Light's GLAAD Award May 8, 2022
Video of Judith Light's speech in receiving her GLAAD Award I was just thinking that I wish I were reading an @Errols article about this! Ariana DeBose presented. Judith speaking. Light went on to talk about the “deeply destructive bills in Florida, Alabama and Texas.” and stated that “no one of any race, gender identity, sexual orientation or ability should have to face discrimination from their own government.” To close her speech, Judith quoted her dear friend Paul Monnete. “No one will find the way out of hate and violence unless we do… There’s only one kind of anger that’s good for you and that’s anger against injustice. And remember there’s no such thing as false hope. We all have closets to come out if we are ever going to be free. Truth is a full-time job and intimacy a lifelong struggle. I promise you, all that will matter when you come to the end is how much you’ve managed to love and how much you’ve given back. Go without hate. Heal the world.

One Life to Live Tribute Thread
If I dig in here will I find the story of Michael Zaslow returning to OLTL & playing out an ALS storyline as David Renaldi? I think I've learned just about as much as is possible about what happened at GL & all I can do is guess then that JFP somehow found a right thing to do & did it. I have 3 good things that JFP did compared to hundreds of bad acts. But I am suspicious to give her credit. I'm just a cynic when it comes to JFP. I know behind the scenes GL & now am in search of behind the scenes OLTL. Many thnx.

Guiding Light Discussion Thread
I have a question: was Mike Bauer, who maybe was sometimes called Michael, an attorney? I'm trying to place Mitchell Dru an atty from Oakdale who was in Bay City & an atty also of Oakdale who worked for him, Donald Hughes in Bay City & Mike Bauer is there. And, I know that Mike & Hope were in Bay City, but what I've figured out only works if Mike was an atty. like these other guys. They are in a confab about Pat Randolph's murder trial & John is leading the way. This matters to maybe 3 people in the world since Mike & Hope were the only ones from out of town who were actually onscreen. Such a little thing! As always, mucho thnx.

To a point that is just good sense & good business practice. Sets are expensive & sets take up ROOM when they're not being used!

Well Plotted Soap Stories
I read it & I loved it but I kept waiting for her to talk about Rachel & Ada as parallels to Erica & Mona. Disappointed. And, of course she saved AW and she could have had bragging rights to that. About shows that made money, it's not about that, it's about *enough* money.

Bless you! And, that's not like 'Well bless your heart. *snap*" Seriously much thnx! It threw me that Marci spoke so glowingly of Emily as a scene partner. I had that wake-up call that the actor is not the character. MA was in fine form.

What Are You Listening To?
The last new movie I saw was the new DUNE & I can recommend it to all Dune fans. All sf/f fans, too. The last movie I saw was not new. It was Geena Davis in THE LONG KISS GOODNIGHT which I will watch over & over. Also her pirate movie. The last song I listened to was a video clip of a GLAAD performance with Adam Lambert & Melissa Etheridge doing her hit, "I'm the Only One" Adam Lambert & Melissa Etheridge And, I wanted to ask you guys if you had seen this: The 10 Most Uplifting Songs, According to Science Ryan Logan May 9th, 2018 1. “Don’t Stop Me Now”, Queen, 1978 2. “Dancing Queen”, ABBA, 1976 3. “Good Vibrations”, The Beach Boys, 1966 4. “Uptown Girl”, Billy Joel, 1983 5. “Eye of the Tiger”, Survivor, 1982 6. “I’m a Believer”, The Monkees, 1966 7. “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun”, Cyndi Lauper, 1983 8. “Living on a Prayer”, Bon Jovi, 1986 9. “I Will Survive”, Gloria Gaynor, 1978 10. “Walking on Sunshine”, Katrina & the Waves, 1985 I admit I am intrigued by the idea of using science to somehow deconstruct an art.

Santa Barbara Discussion Thread
It's like Ron Carlivati's saying that they were playing the demonic possession s/l for laughs so the church & religious people shouldn't get bent out of shape about it. Try using that as a template for most any s/l. Rape - just for the laughs Breast cancer - just for the laughs Erectile dysfunction - just for the laughs It doesn't hold up.

Well Plotted Soap Stories
So many affiliates have a local news show or a local lifestyle show that they want to air at lunchtime because they get all the ad revenue. And, half hour shows apparently need to have a sheltering effect from a big show that they can follow, not lead off the block. Clearances was a problem for GEN, CIT, PC (all new & lunch) and Sunset Beach & Santa Barbara (new and NBC affiliates are arseholes)

ARTICLE: Nominations Announced for ‘The 49th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards’
More Daytime Emmy Reels Arianne Zucker chose the breakup scene with Eric for her reel. Lindsay Arnold submitted the hypnotized/remembering the rape by Charlie in London scenes. James Reynolds submitted the 40th anniversary episode. John McCook (Eric, B&B) .Eric could not fulfill his wife’s physical needs, and he made some bad choices, choices that I didn’t agree with. Brad explained all of this to me before we did it. He actually had me up to the office, and he said, “How would you feel about telling a story about erectile dysfunction and about sending [Eric’s] wife off to be with somebody else?” And I said, “Look, I don’t mind making bad choices or wrong choices for Eric, as long as in the end, we can see why he makes these choices.” And that’s where the scene was that we showed — it’s Eric trying to explain to Ridge why he was allowing his wife, Quinn, to be off with Carter. But you know, it’s very exciting that Brad gave me the opportunity to say, “No, I’m not comfortable doing that.” And we talked about it, not at great length, but he said, “Okay, we’re going to go with it then.” And it was very exciting when it started happening, and we had a good year with it, we really did. It took a long time to tell that story I’ve only seen two of the scenes Kimberlin Brown (Shelia, B&B) put on her reel and that was Shelia screaming at Stephanie’s photo and Shelia and Steffy in hell. Here’s Kimberlin in her own words… Originally, we thought it would be best to tell a story, from point A to the final scene, as far as when I first arrived on the show and what happened along the way to set things up, and then I started remembering other scenes and other pieces that, to me, were just great moments. And when other actors come to you on the show and say, “Boy, I hope you choose this show,” or, “I hope you choose that one!” it really jars your memory and it helps you, it truly does. I had Annika [Noelle, Hope Logan] say, “Kimberlin, you’ve got to put the scene in when you’re talking to Steffy Forrester in hell,” and I was like, “Oh, my gosh, yes!” Because I’ve been so busy, and I’ve have so much to do since I came back, it’s a little bit overwhelming, so to have people come forward from the show and help me with their recommendations, it really pulled everything together that was necessary. But, yeah, I don’t know really what to say today, to be honest! I’m just very excited Here’s what Ted King (Jack, B&B) said was on his reel… There were quite a few. It started with scenes at Finn and Steffy’s [Jacqueline MacInnes Wood] wedding and then moved into heavier scenes with Naomi, who’s also been nominated, and I’m thrilled for her. She played my wife, Li Finnegan, and so I included a scene from [their conversation when Jack revealed the truth about Finn’s parentage], and then I included several scenes with Sheila, Kimberlin Brown. And then there was one final scene with Tanner Novlan, so me and Finn, where it was basically mea culpa — I had done bad things, and I needed to come clean to my son! [ Here’s what Guest Performer nominee Naomi Matsuda (Li, B&B) says she put in her Emmy reel…. The scene where I find out that I had been betrayed all these years, that my husband on the show, Ted King, had been lying to me for all these years about our son, who turned out to be his biological son who I thought we had adopted together, and finding out that he was the love child of my husband when he had the affair. Personally I am just appalled that Stacy Haiduk is nominated. I mean, if she were nominated for Worst Recast, then, maybe.
