One Life to Live Tribute Thread
Thanks. Interesting about the complex female characters because, in the episode, Tina and especially Gabrielle were front and center and very fascinating to watch (I was a little aware of Tina from other episodes but I believe this was my first time seeing Gabrielle in action). Gabrielle was superb in her scheming and manipulation. Megan had a much smaller part here but clearly there was a lot going on with her too. Definitely enough to make me want to see more.

What do we know about headwriter S. Michael Schnessel? I just watched a 1989 episode of his and enjoyed it. You can't tell much about an American soap opera by just one episode, but he was around for three years, which seems just about the average for a lot of the better known writers of the show. How was his run regarded? Was he responsible about some city in the sky or in hell or whatever that Eterna thing was?

Home and Away: Discussion Thread
I'm not sure if this was ever posted here, but Hulu is putting up episodes of the show. As is the case with Corrie, they upload one episode Monday through Friday and are two weeks behind from Australia. I assume this will continue two weeks after the new season starts. They have one season up.

Degrassi: The Next Generation
This is discussion for something not yet aired in the US. Can you please spoiler it or AT LEAST clearly define which episodes you're talking about before discussing? THANKS A MIL.

Coronation Street: Discussion Thread
I'm a couple of weeks behind, watching on Hulu, and am loving all the little moments of grief Ken experiences, like receiving a letter addressed to both him and Deirdre or after the change into the New Year, when Audrey approaches him and says that Deirdre would have been in her element, and Ken replies that it's not fair that it was her. There was also a lovely little moment between Rita and Emily--Rita encouraged Emily to go on her trip, reminding her of Deirdre and her death at 60--as well as a great shot of Tracy with the fireworks behind her, looking on in shock as Robert tries to make her jealous.

Coronation Street: Discussion Thread
Yep. If you asked me which characters I dislike and would want written out, I'd easily say Michelle, Fiz and Sean first. It's mostly about issues I have with them, especially with Fiz, from years past. They're mostly three very unlikable actors and it was always very difficult for me to place why until Carl mentioned the backstage issues/rumors with them, and then it all started to make sense. Like, there's no reason why I would hate Fiz so much, except for the fact that she's totally unbelievable as the super nice, sweet LEAD HEROINE that the actress is trying to play. That, and her constant frontburner status. She was crying about her cancer kid and all I kept thinking is I just don't care. Hate hate hate her. And, of course, Kym Marsh can't act to save her life. I've noticed the same thing about Michelle since my return to the show. She's not nearly as annoying as she can be when she's given lead material. That's when the nasty truly comes out. Sean used to be tolerable when he had a lot of his scenes with Eileen. I'm not sure how much of that happens nowadays, but she was able to mitigate some of his crap.

EastEnders: Discussion Thread
LOL the cynical part of me is thinking he just needed a job or wanted to be able to move to the US via work Who knows what the future holds? Y&R is such a cesspit, anyways. It COULD get worse -- it always does -- but let's see.

Y&R: Old Articles
No. No, it wasn't. Stop it. Stop. That's like saying, "the good thing about that cancer is..." Pheila was and is one of THE worst, most disgusting, things the show has ever done (and it has A LOT of competition) and nothing connected to or about it is good. Not to mention, it REALLY wasn't needed for all of Genoa City to know about her. That is more the type of villainess that would suit DAYS or OLTL. That wasn't Y&R's style. It made sense on B&B because it was a much smaller cast and, basically, all about one family, but Sheila walking in and terrorizing the likes of an entire city that includes Katherine Chancellor and Victor Newman would quickly turn cartoonish and over the top. Like, what possible reason would Sheila have to get involved with those people? She didn't go after money or power or ice machines. She just wanted some good peen and that bitch Lauren stood in her way. And that's what makes her so terrifying -- she did it all for love, for a baby. Bring her into this bigger orbit and suddenly she's putting bombs in Newman Towers and--oh, wait.

HBO: Game of Thrones
Yes, they've always cited a 7-season plan, but according to this article, which gives more detail on what you just said, they are now thinking they might have two more seasons instead of one. Either this was always the plan or they've been convinced. In any case, I'm in for 8 seasons. HBO's not going to let one of the most massive global hits just go away unless absolutely necessary. As long as the writing doesn't suffer and they fix the issues from season 5....

NCIS: Discussion Thread
Already posted two posts above yours. There is something comforting about it, the times I've watched. It's entertaining and easy to just sit back and watch. Clearly, there's a reason for its loooong lived success, and that's part of it.

Janet Jackson Appreciation Thread
The rumor that she had cancer spread earlier. A few minutes ago she posted a video with part of the Great Forever song, and a message at the end saying she doesn't have cancer, is recovering and her Europe concert dates have been approved.

Blind people can be tried, too! So many people on my Facebook defending him (they want to take a Black Icon down! He's soooooo old! I feel sorry for him!) but thankfully I'm seeing some more rational posts lately too.
