Days of Our Lives: March 2022 Discussion Thread
Like the Olsen twins, Dee and Andrea are clearly not identical and looked more and more different as they aged (of course with the help of Dee getting "help"). I think it worked initially with the Hattie storyline though, but that was because the intent with Hattie was that she initially sort-of looked like Marlena even if the show was such a mess at that point that they couldn't do anything meaningful with it.

Considering the rather dark history at times about how we've treated people with some form of developmental disorders (just look at Rosemary Kennedy!) I'm sure there'd be a lot to unpack how Angela reacted to it and treated Emma - I always thought it was in the subtext that it was the reason why she being kept so sheltered. And yeah, Wyman would've sold the hell out of a storyline where Emma's justified anger over the treatment she'd suffered through the years was adressed.

I mean, the reason why Emma acted the way she did was likely because she had some sort of developmental disorder, even if the show never went into specifics.

Maybe we should have a watch party for the greatest made-for-television movie of all time instead of regular DAYS programming?

Days of Our Lives: March 2022 Discussion Thread
I agree and I've talked about it in the Behind the scenes thread - DAYS's first major mistake was basically aging Julie into her mid/late-30s when the character was essentially meant to be around 26-27 and SSH was in her early 30s. She became a "talk-to" character really fast - I also assume this is why Doug and Julie never had a kid despite it being an obvious storyline for late 70s/early 80s. Well, she had a grandson... I think the show also just got better with allow characters to be vaguely an age rather than push them into the "old" bracket. Sami, Carrie etc are also characters that's very much in the vague age category - I assume Sami's in the 40s category now, but thanks to not aging Will up she managed to go from a young villain to a young lead heroine for much of the 00s/early 10s and now she's back to being an occasional trouble-maker.

Yeah, you can blame Ron for a lot of things, but OLTL (and AMC) ending didn't have to do with ratings - it had to do with ABC thinking they could produce cheaper programming and get roughly the same ratings, thus increasing their profit. Ultimately, the replacement shows bombing pretty much saved General Hospital, otherwise it would've been gone by now too.

Yeah and he's not acted in about a decade so I suspect he's reached an age where he's not just acting. Not everyone is Bill Hayes unfortunately, so the only other option is probably to recast and in all honesty, DAYS has enough players on the canvas that are 70+. I think killing Neil off is the right decision in this case, since the character has no use without the OG actor and his kid is on the canvas so they need to adress it.

Falcon Crest
I'd argue that season 4 is when it starts falling apart a bit, mostly because of network meddling over the nazi plot.

Yeah, I mean, Barbara seemed in decent shape in the Thorn Birds, unfortunately at that age it can go downhill fast. It would've definitively affected her portrayal of Angela some time in the mid-80s though.

I mean, TR's only purpose at this point is to eventually get shot so that they can have the promo tagline "Who shot TR?".

Sure, I can get that some criticism can be annoying mostly because it's usually beyond his control - ie budget, availability of actors etc. But the truth is that a lot on the show is a bust at the moment - the possession story seems to be going nowhere, the Saranee plot makes no sense, Ava vs Rafe is a c-plot at best. I genuinely don't have a high standard for soaps these days either - my bar is essentially if I'm being entertained or not, and currently, I am not.

DAYS: Fire Jamey Giddens!!
I mean, I've been a viewer of the show for 25 years - almost 30 if you take into account that 1993 episodes started airing here in 1997, and I literally have no idea who Renée is outside seeing a few clips on YouTube. It would definitively help to do flashbacks at least, if only so that viewers could enjoy high-quality clips of when the show had a budget. Now it's just random names; unless they're intending to re-cast Renée and bring her back from the dead (why?!), I don't see why we shouldn't at least be thrown some bones. That would've been a great idea since Peacock seems to be floundering a bit - upload classic DAYS featuring Renée and the Salem Slasher on there while this storyline is running.

I think the main issue with Renée is that while she was popular during her original run, she's also a character that kind of existed in a vacuum for three or so years of the shows run. They've literally made no efforts with keeping her alive since then, unlike let's say Addie, Isabella, even Paige etc. Alex Marshall is another character that's just lost in the mists of time despite a fairly long run of eight years. It's not like they're going to bring back 85-year-old Quinn Redeker, so what's the point?

Barbara Stanwyck was the original choice for Angela, actually. The reason she did The Colby's was because she and Aaron were close friends since they worked on a tv movie together (allegedly, it was running over budget and this was right at the start of Aaron's producing career, so Stanwyck helped him by bandying the cast together to finish it on time). She was also Tori's god mother, so I'm sure she's looking down from heaven in approval...

OMG, I'm at the episode where Johnny is just "casually" working out in front of Craig... at the mall... which is supposedly an indoor one - this is so bad 😅

100%. It's been obvious since the Devil entered Johnny - most of the stuff Johnny's done so far isn't stuff that he couldn't have done without being The Prince of Darkness. Maybe if the Devil story had been more about him influencing the Salemites to do bad things (leaving it open to interpretation how much things people did under the influence of the Devil versus how much they're themselves just using it as an excuse), but then there wouldn't have been any need to have the Devil literally jump around inside of people. As of now, he's just having Johnny do things that he could've done either way, just without having to justify any motives for having him do so.

Honestly, I like Mike Manning but I'm glad they didn't try to go down a rededemption route just because he's hot. I'm tired how hot white guys gets away with violent acts of crime due to their six pack.

The whole point of Charlie was to be the rapist/Allie's baby's father, so I don't think he was ruined.

I think you could look at it in relation to Dallas: D - FC #1 - #13 #2 - #8 #1 - #7 #2 - #10 #6 - #24 #11 - #23 #21 - #42 #30 - #52 #43 - #63 (last four episodes aired on Thursdays 9PM) I guess Freilich's first season really did stabilise the show especially with Dallas's fall out of the top ten. Season 7 through 9 it just kept falling I guess.

All I remember from Ambitions is the terrible dialogue and Robin Givens eating the tapestry in every scene.

Days of our Lives 3/14/2022 Weekly Preview Promo
I'm pretty sure what happened on Beyond Salem is supposed to have happened on the main show, it's just that it can be viewed independently and ties up the storyline within those five episodes. Pretty sure there's been references to it before with Ben/Ciara.
